This reminds me of a trip I took to Northern Ireland a few years back. During the most violent years of the unrest there, the only thing that would stop a firefight was an ambulance coming into the area. Both sides knew we came for them both without asking if they were Catholic or Protestant, Irish or Brit. I have been a Medic with NYC EMS for over 20 years and of all the videos I have seen about our profession, this is the most moving.
i respect paramedics so much. im about to start a position as an emergnecy medical dispatcher in australia. i plan on working my way into a paramedic position. one day... :)
One year ago I watched this video and posted a comment as an EMT-Basic. Now I watch as an EMT-Paramedic. Seeing the video again, reminds me of why I chose this career. Thanks Again. EMT-Paramedic Ohio
Dont give up on trying to become a part of EMS. Im a brand new EMT in Havasu City Arizona. Ive already seen more than anyone my age should. I already saved a life. Its a good feeling when you know you just helped someone during one of the worst times in their life. Keep striving ahead.
Beatiful collection of pictures, thank you very much for that... Sometimes people dont apreciate our job, but its ok because we do it not for the praise... Im proud to be a NYC EMT ... Be safe all of you...
I have been involved with ems for the past 30 years ,the last 19 with NYC EMS now with FDNY. Its nice to see something positive about us for a change. We are so often pushed to the background by the public who only think about us until we are needed. To all of us in the ems community keep the faith and do what we do best ,save lives. Bruce Haas EMT-D Station 54
I Im interning. Just got my first save yesterday. I was the PIC and made all of the decisions. The pt. lived because we were there. I didnt share how great it felt because I didnt want to look like a dork. That was a good feeling. makes all of those BS calls worth it to sometimes get a call where you can save someones life. I started the program to be more competitive for a fire job. I think Im going to love being a paramedic regardless of the fire part.
I just went on a call, where we thought a woman committed suicide, she put a 38 to her head and pulled the trigger, we did the best we could and even life flighted her, it didn't bother me that much because she had done this to herself, turns out she was murdered, that bothers me no one should have to go through what she did.
When I view videos like this I am reminded why I chose this career. I never realized just how close EMS personnel are. It seems as though noone else understands the ups and downs of the job. Having just completed my EMT-B course this evening, I am looking forward to finally being apart of the team. Thanks
great video youve put togethere here shows alot of respect, its nice to know that people out there respect those of us in the ems services, i am a medical response technician in the state of conneticut i may not do as much as some of the other ems crew members but it sure is 1 hell of a exciting job >.> (its volunteer)
You know what I love about all this.... I think back to when I held a child in my arms... a newborn child, that I delivered... Or just hearing someone call me an Angel of Mercy. Just the word Angel makes me feel special. If you have ever had that feeling you would understand it.
HAHAHAHAH hahaha hoollly crap there fellas hahahahha. medic man up there is right...no protective equipment when on scene of an MVA and you get cut or injured in someway, congratulations, your job has now become worthless because you are now a patient yourself, which ties up the rest of the crew to care for you when the real reason they are there is for the MVA pts. On that note, great video but a little inaccurate in some respects.
Pointing out so and so isn't wearing gloves is being a perfectionist. Pointing out Randy Rescue is going to get himself injured by not wearing proper gear is noting the obvious. I take this stuff seriously because its my job to take it seriously. But to answer your question, no, I don't often reach into MVA's dramatically, usually I'm doing more mundane things like intubating, treating arrhythmias, start IVS, you know, the stuff this video doesn't show.
Hey seems like we got a an EMS perfectionist on our hands, nyc14 bro don't take shit to serious, not everyone does the right things and to me people who criticize about how others do things just makes you look bad and makes it look like you don't do this stuff so you would rather criticize about other people trying to do the right things. STFU and enjoy the video.
Oh, and who is the whacker for brains reaching into the MVA without any protective gear on? Way to go hero, when you contract tetanus, don't be surprised.
Look, as long as people doing dumb things are glorified, people will continue to do dumb things. Everyday I have to deal with people doing dumb things with varying degrees of success, so excuse me if I'm a bit cynical about these things.
who cares? do your job well and go home to your real life. too many people in ems make their job their top priority. this ems crap isn't worth neglecting yourself. your life should come first.
Let's see, search and rescue, flight crews, little kids certified in first aid... now if only there were some good shots of professional EMS mixed in, lol
im not in this job for money , i am here to help people , its the least i could do for society. and it just makes me feel so good to know i make a difference in someones life.
everyone in emergency services should be proud of themselves. you are the heroes no matter what anyone says.
