  • Why do people hate these cars? they should hate their own life...

  • I actually really like this. Looks great, and definitely looks like it could hold it's own on the street no problem.

  • Someone needs to build a mini-Mad Maxx car out of a pinto...

  • Nice Pinto, but that under dash A/C unit has GOT to go! How hard would it be to use the factory ducting? That thing looks hideous. Nonetheless, great ride.

I thought about putting a 3.8 super in my ''79 wagon. That would be a great ride!

  • The hubbub over the pinto was indeed overblown. Not a bad little car at all.

  • Looks like a Mach 1 Nice!!!!

  • Pinto véio, mas vremeio!!!

  • Call me crazy but I think this is one bad ass ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People usually laugh when I say I like the Ford Pinto. My first car was a 79 pinto the same color as this one but mine only had half the engine as this one lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @boxman0924 Yeah, I learned to drive in a 79 Pinto wagon with a stick. Fun to drive! Now, I drive Alfas, an MG an 88 Fiero Formula and a Datsun 260Z. I still want an early Pinto for the collection! They look good and can be made to handle.

  • omg .. i wanted to buy one .. but am i in risk here? will it explode .. can the gas tank be moved

  • yep we just went over that in drivers ed

the bumper would penitrate the gas can and spark making it explode :)

  • actually.... in early model Pinto's it was the tank getting pushed into the rear end with protruding bolts that would tear the tank, not the bumper. The other item fixed by the recall was the gas filler was reinforced and replaced with a longer tube into the tank to keep it from coming out during a crash. Never a problem with wagons.

  • However, a 1991 law review paper by Gary Schwartz claimed the case against the Pinto was less clear-cut than commonly supposed. The number who died in Pinto rear-impact fires, according to Schwartz, was well below the hundreds cited in contemporary news reports and closer to the twenty-seven recorded by a limited National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.

  • Given the Pinto's production figures (over 2 million built), this was not substantially worse than typical for the time. Schwartz argued that the car was no more fire-prone than other cars of the time, that its fatality rates were lower than comparably sized imported automobiles.

  • @cookieboystoys the same shit happened to the Bronco

  • @cookieboystoys I owned a new 1971 Pinto that was rearended before the recall. The gas tank never ruptured. I was hit hard too. Both quarter panels by the rear wheels were buckled out.

  • @cookieboystoys , chevy pickups were the same way, starting in 73 they had the gas tanks on the outside of the frame by the body...

  • Not only that, my dad can tell you if you rear end someone it's not fun either....he was coming back one day near Christmas and this station wagon full of presents in the back slammed on the brakes, my dad slammed on his, the road was all icy, the wheels locked and he went into the back of the wagon....when he hit it, the heater core tore through the cabin and almost impaled him.....he told my grandma and the next day that car was GONE, off to the junkyard

  • he had a lot of fun with it though, worked it out and got caught doing 135 on the highway.....he went to dispute the ticket and he said the judge said "you were going HOW fast? 135?" and my dad said "your honor, I was in a Pinto!" and the judge looked at him and said "charges dropped, case dismissed".....shows how much of a reputation these cars have. haha

  • @nextnashvillstar Actual deaths in Pinto fires have come in at a known 27

allot more people have been burned or killed in a Chevy truck with side saddle gas tanks well over 300

any car can explode if the gas exits the tank and catches fire

  • Didn't they say that if you hit a Pinto just right in the rear it'll alway explode due to where Ford places the gas tank in the car?

  • @Shalashaska016 it is know for that to be sure. However it must be remembered and noted that any! car with a gas tank will catch on fire if hit right (they don't explode) and the gas tank leaks. Many more Ford Mustangs caught on fire when hit from the rear vs. the Pinto but... the Pinto is/was the poster child for "exploding gas tanks."

  • LOVE the side pipes, and the 302-ish graphics!!!

  • nice car but isn' that rear bumper a little high on the right side?

  • looks like it could be...

  • @IvanDaTerror i agree

  • I'll bet you have a sweet mullet.

  • Damn...great!

  • Holy Hell that's one sexy ass Pinto!!

  • I gotta tell ya cookieboy, I'm jealous. Back in the day, I owned 7 pintos. 2 were wagons. Damn they were great cars. My last pinto was a 1976 that I sold in 1990. I wish I kept that one the most. I restored it perfectly. Oh well, when I decide to buy another one, I'll look you up. You seem to know where all the nice ones are.

  • Ebay and Craigslist, most of the good ones for a decent price I have found were on Craigslist. Sometimes the ones on Ebay seem to sell for more than they should... currently have 6 at home, licenced and driveable, 3 more decent parts cars :-)

  • Yeah, I too go on ebaymotors often and see some nice ones there from time to time. And you are right, a few are over priced, but I guess if ya want one bad enough......Anyway, I watched 4 of your videos so far and will watch the others another day. I also noticed in another post from another video, you mentioned you are on a Pinto Forum. Is that true? I know there's a Pinto Club of America and was wondering if they had an open forum. I really do plan to buy another Pinto one day.

  • yes... there is fordpinto - ctpintobobcat - turbopinto forums and all are free to join with an open forum. I'm usually on ctpintobobcat and sometimes turbopinto

  • Cool. I'll have to check them out. I'll look for ya. Thanks for the info cookieboy. Have a GREAT Labor Day weekend.

P.S.-Drive Um Like Ya Stole Um. ;-)

  • njn m m, ,

  • Very nice, like the classic look with the stripe, black air dam etc. Clean car.

  • any suggestions on how to get headers in a pinto vs manifolds espically with the clearence issue with the steering

  • Heddman makes a set of hedders that are for a mustang II with the v-8 that pretty much bolt right up to an 8 with some fender clearancing on the passenger side. Don't remember the part number, look on jegs or something and search, should come up with a pic and part number.

  • VERY cool new ride cookieboy! I just recently put the same console in my 78 Sedan!

What type of cup holder are you using in there?

From the Ford Pinto forums, we all miss you!

  • Hey Dave, it's not mine, I saw it for sale on Ebay awhile ago and had to make the video. The "cup holder" is really a gauge package... look close and you can see the wires out the bottom. I'm still around, just hang out at a different pinto forum these days ctpintobobcat Thanks for the comment and stoping by.

  • Nice, another good youtube video by Cookieboy. Is that your new ride Brian??

  • I Wish! I'd drive this ;-)

  • slick!
