  • Chris Murray is a kickass Clopin.

  • Every second of this is a thrill to watch.

  • Their Clopin is Haut

  • Ah, dude, Esmeralda's dance is the best part of the song! :D I really want to see how they made a human being do that dance, it involves pretty badass moves :D

  • Love the costumes, especially Clopin's.

  • They dance like marionettes. I hope the choreography improves when this gets moved to Broadway.

  • @v1de0gamr I assumed that that was what they were meant to be dancing like. It is the Feast of Fools, after all.

  • i think the english version sounds soo much better

  • In my opinion both versions are good ^^

  • I love this movie and I think it would make the most amazing musical. However the german version of this, if it were to ever come to broadway it would have undergo several changes. This song being one of them.

  • How did you (or someone else) get such good close up shots? Great job :)

Can you post more of this?

  • I would be there opening night if they brought this to the US!!!

  • where's esmerelda's dance???

  • @broadwaymadame It's been cut off just before it. You can hear at the very end he's starting to say her name

  • wow, wasn't this back in like '99? I remember i was in Berlin when they were advertising it! I wanted to see it, but was with parents, didn't have enough time!

  • I hear they changed a lot of things to make it darker and to stretch it out

  • yep. more songs, which are great!

  • This is my fav disney movie and I now find its a musical and in German non the less. I love German wish I could speak it but sadly I know all their saying because I know the movie word for word. But I live in America and would fly out to Germany if I had the chance to see it. I hope it does come to broadway too bad I don't live in New York . oh well where theres a will theres a way !

  • This is by far my favourite Disney movie too - I hope they bring it to New York! I live in the UK though but I would definitely make an effort to see it (I did for The Little Mermaid)!

  • I wish it would come to America....

Also, those jester suits look badass! ^_^ Hell, I'd buy one!

  • it's going to come to broadway soon, according to the internet!

  • yeah, acording to the intertent and interviews...

    its coming this year! ^^

  • This needs to come to broadway.

  • I meant that it should've be performed in France xD The Germans get all the good stuff

  • Hmph. You'd think if they were to put this production into any foreign language at all it would've been French, I know ... I know ... I've got some crazy new ideas. I would greatly love this in England (and English). I suppose the Italians have got dibbsies on the next adaption though =/

  • When you perform a show in Germany they will most likely NOT perform it in French... surprise

  • @lagwagoning You'd think, but a.) Disney doesn't like to compete, and since Notre Dame de Paris was going on in France at the time and making tons of money, well, you know...

b.) Victor Hugo's descendents had gripes with the Disney animated film.

c.) The animated film did most well in Germany.

It would be awesome if this came to English-speaking countries!

  • I hate how they made Clopin a bum in the German musical... he's not a bum at this part, but he is when he's narrating it. BUT, I did like how they expanded his role. Hopefully an American production will come to Broadway, but it'd take forever to rework it for an American audience. For instance, Esmeralda's death in the German musical caused a lot of controversy, and American audiences probably wouldn't want her to die, so a lot of script rewriting would have to go into that scene alone.

  • ok now in english :D

  • Oh! Clopin is the funky gypsy guy!!

  • I cant wait to go to Germany and see this show

  • It closed in 2002. :/

  • Sadness abounds. You did hear that Stephen Schwartz said he thinks they're working on doing it on Broadway, though, right? I'm excited!!!!

  • Yeah, there are rumors about a Broadway Revival. If they're true then that's great! I just hope they'll maintain the darker tone of the Berlin production and won't water it back down to the somewhat awkward sweetness of the film just because that's what the American audiences (supposedly) want. I prefer the more dramatic, more opera-like feel of the German stage adaptation. It's perfect.

  • I agree! But I don't think they took out "A Guy like You", which is a bummer (it's my least favorite song on the soundtrack). It doesn't fit with the rest of the film at all.

  • I think they did actually. I know there is one song that is not in the stage adaptation that was in the move. I'm pretty sure it was that one.

  • "A Guy Like You" is still in the play, but it does get a bit of a different tone since it's fairly well established that the gargoyles are all in Quasimodo's head. So you know, it's just his own escapism from the cruel reality as opposed to whacky singing fantasy characters. They did take out "the Court of Miracles" however and replaced it with a dance number.

  • If it did come to Broadway, it probably wouldn't be the same production. It would have to be re-directed and re-worked to fit on the American stage. The German production was so big that they built a new theatre just for it. There is no Broadway theatre that is technologically advanced enough to house the same production. Which is sad because it looks so beautiful.

  • True. The "The Lord of the Rings" musical (which I REALLY want to see) I hear is planning a tour of the U.S., which would be fabulous, but Broadway doesn't have a theatre big enough to hold it. Luckily, my hometown does! ; )

  • Wow. Do you know when the tour starts or is it still a rumor?

  • Still just a rumor, I'm afraid. Unless there's something on the website. (Just google Lord of the Rings musical and it'll come up.)

  • True, but then again I find that part of the fun of theatre is to see the same play performed in various ways. I don't really mind new sets and whatnot, at least as they don't butcher the script to twist it into a happy sappy tale because I really like the German adaptation.

  • AAHHH YOU CUT IT OFF!

Where can I purchase this DVD?

  • wonderful!where's this from?was it made into a musical too?

  • this is just awesome...is there a dvd or something????
