I don't know what the world has against people being Christian. As a Christian I don't hate the athiests. I don't understand why people can't let us be religous. This cannot be denied. But first we must be able to look at terms like RELIGION and SCIENCE and discriminate what we mean by such bucket terms. The term SCIENTIST only became USED after about the 19th Century. before that people such as Copernicus, Kepplar and Newton were called "Natural Philosophers". Religions may agree on some fundamental moral principals, ( we Theists call this the Intrinsic Universal Moral Law), but GREATLY vary on the Nature of God, the number of God, they TYPE or essence of God, the path to redemption, the nature of man, the concept of sin, the afterlife, heaven, hell, etc etc... Religion comes from the Latin meaning "things melded together". Again this is an overused bucket term.
The pure existence of GOD, has nothing to do with a particular religion per se. If GOD by definition exists as a pre-cosmic default, then RELIGION ( which has many made-made constructs, socially, materially, interpretively ) etc... has pretty much nothing to say on the issue. All truth ABOUT GOD, would have to come FROM GOD. This is why Theists seek GODS TRUTH, AS IS, not one we feel we construct. GOD as a human construction is pure presumption.
Since GOD, by Theistic definition PRECEEDED the Big Bang, He is ETERNAL ( a temporal because time did NOT exist until the Big Bang), He would have to be INFINITE ( as finitude is a spacial concept and space did not exist until the Big Bang), and all powerful ( as all power Time/Matter/Space/Energy) seemed to arrive into nothingness by, what I believe to be intent, mind, and volition. Otherwise one assumes nothing created nothing, and that's a form of Magic.
I have never observed MAGIC , where something pops into existence from nothing. I have however observed MINDS and INTELLIGENCES. You have a mind, I have an intelligence etc... We presume that Matter and Energy gave birth to MIND, but perhaps it's the opposite that MIND, or consciousness gave birth to MIND/MATTER. This is why GOD cannot be called an "invisible man in the sky". Thats a caricature. GOD existed when there was no UNIVERSE, much less a SKY. He is an immaterial.
That said, we must also differentiate not only between GODS EXISTENCE ( ontology), and God's character ( Theology), and why He does what He does ( Theodicy), we must understand the differences between world religions themselves, and their social differences, and their ABUSES in the POLITICAL WORLD. ( God told me to take your land, so I do). But taking another species resources, at root, is not a religious but a DARWINIST concept.
There is a huge difference between a spiritual and personal relationship with GOD through His Son, and a "political church", where the Church has become some corrupt political institution in bed with government etc etc,,, Divine right of Kings was NEVER Biblical. It came from the Byzantines and was later adopted by Western Europe. In the Old Testament God was RELUCTANT to give the Israelites a King, because we know what kings do.
However the Isrealites begged and would'nt shut up about it, so God finally granted it. However it's interesting that they wanted a KING because the PAGAN Nations around them, like Babylon had one. God KNEW Kings could be cruel, so He assigned the Israeli Kings a PROPHET to keep them in CHECK from their power hunger. So I think this is pretty ANTI-TYRANNICAL, if we take a pure Historical look at things. And look at some of the ATHEIST regimes of the 20th century.
Karl Marx said the same thing you did. He claimed religion kept man in strife, that man would only truly be happy and at peace with himself when religion was abolished. As a result, that's what Nations like the Former Soviet Union, Former East Germany, Cuba, Red China, North Korea, North Vietnam, Cambodia set out to do. They knew you can't "get rid of religion". It's to close to people hearts. So they were forced to exterminate it's practitioners.
As a result, just as F. Nietzsche had predicted, the 20th century was the bloodiest century of all time, more than all of the other centuries combined. In many instances ( not all of course WW2 was areligious essentially), it was often some Communist dictator feeling he had to exterminate half of his population because He sincerely believed that, as you say, "religion is oppressive", and man cannot live in peace with religion.

Another words, we believe Him to be the Great Omni-Intellect, Pre-Cosmic Constant. I agree "it's just the wind" indeed. many things in nature seem to be sort of self-sustaining , from our point of view. I also agree with many aspects of natural selection. However I cannot buy the Hydrogen-to Human evolutionary process. I see way too many problems with it, which really isn't my point here so much.
I do assign intelligence yes, and let me explain. People sometimes find me strnage because I am a CREATIONIST, who believes adamantly in the BIG BANG. We have a lot of good reason to believe this happened, red Shift, Radioactive decay from the initial introduction of the B.B. etc.. Now it seems to me that 1 of two options is plausible here... something caused the big bang, or nothing caused the Big Bang....
If we believe that NOTHING caused the Big Bang for no REASON or PURPOSE, and all the suddenly absolutely NOTHING turns into EVERYTHING, I do not understand how this is possible without some manipulation or instigation of some sort. To believe that NOTHING becomes something for no reason, is almost a form of MAGIC ( abra cadabra). I really have no evidence for MAGIC in the Universe. I do have reason to believe INTELLIGENCE exists however ( i.e. This debate).
It is assumed in Materialist Philosophy that MATTER and ENERGY give rise to MIND. But what if it were backwards. What if it was MIND that existed first and manifested some how all Space/Time/Matter and Energy. Quantum physics is getting screwier about this stuff every day... The wind analogy would be a GOOD one, if we were talking about NATURE gods, such as Paganism, worshiped in the Ancient world to, as you say correctly, make sense out of the PHYSICAL world around them.
However, the God postulated by we Theists, is not found WITHIN Nature, so He cannot be observed. This is where the difficulty lies. If He is the cause of the Big Bang ( The Uncaused Cause/Prime Mover), then He existed BEFORE ( whatever that means) Time and Space. This would by definition means He would have to be Immaterial ( matter did not exist), and Eternal ( time did not exists) and All-powerful ( All that is is subservient to His volition).
So if He existed, since He is Eternal ( outside of Space and Time ), and Immaterial ( we are material beings), it seems that the way to KNOW Him would have to be something IMMATERIAL and TRANSCEDANT of Physicality. Such things include Knowledge, Love, Relationship, Faith ( simply meaning Trust, or Belief) etc etc... So the Judaic/Christian God is a bit of an enigma. This is why He is fallaciously called a "Sky god" like Zeus. How can this be if He existed BEFORE any SKY did?

As a result, just as F. Nietzsche had predicted, the 20th century was the bloodiest century of all time, more than all of the other centuries combined. In many instances ( not all of course WW2 was areligious essentially), it was often some Communist dictator feeling he had to exterminate half of his population because He sincerely believed that, as you say, "religion is oppressive", and man cannot live in peace with religion.

The problem with that, is that this is exactly what Karl Marx said. The Soviets took that VERY seriously. They too had to get rid of religion so man could become the "new man". As you put it a more "intelligent being". Knowing that peoplearen't just going to"throw away"their hope, values, morals, beliefs, and faith, they simply killed them off to purge society of religion. these countries,who believe as you do, have been shown to be some of the BLOODIEST regimes in History.

@mightymax1992 Well the reason I believe He is not a Creation OF the Universe ( which was a good point by the way), is because in THEISM, we believe that He PRECEDED the Universe. Another words, we believe Him to be the Great Omni-Intellect, Pre-Cosmic Constant. Now their are other world views such as PANTHEISM, where the belief is that God is WITHIN the Universe itself, but thats not the Causal argument for Theism. That's more of an Eastern view.

However, through the evolutionary process, it becomes clear why Humans are susceptible to believing that there is an intelligent force behind everything. That belief is a by-product of an evolutionary trait that aids survival.
To illustrate: imagine you are an early hominid roaming through the African plains. Nearby, the grass begins to move. This could simply be the wind, or it could be a hungry lion intent

I agree "it's just the wind" indeed. many things in nature seem to be sort of self-sustaining , from our point of view. I also agree with many aspects of natural selection. However I cannot buy the Hydrogen-to Human evolutionary process. I see way too many problems with it, which really isn't my point here so much.

I do assign intelligence yes, and let me explain. People sometimes find me strnage because I am a CREATIONIST, who believes adamantly in the BIG BANG. We have a lot of good reason to believe this happened, red Shift, Radioactive decay from the initial introduction of the B.B. etc.. Now it seems to me that 1 of two options is plausible here... something caused the big bang, or nothing caused the Big Bang....

If we believe that NOTHING caused the Big Bang for no REASON or PURPOSE, and all the suddenly absolutely NOTHING turns into EVERYTHING, I do not understand how this is possible without some manipulation or instigation of some sort. To believe that NOTHING becomes something for no reason, is almost a form of MAGIC ( abra cadabra). I really have no evidence for MAGIC in the Universe. It is assumed in Materialist Philosophy that MATTER and ENERGY give rise to MIND. But what if it were backwards. What if it was MIND that existed first and manifested some how all Space/Time/Matter and Energy. Quantum physics is getting screwier about this stuff every day... However, the God postulated by we Theists, is not found WITHIN Nature, so He cannot be observed. This is where the difficulty lies. If He is the cause of the Big Bang ( The Uncaused Cause/Prime Mover), then He existed BEFORE ( whatever that means) Time and Space. This would by definition means He would have to be Immaterial ( matter did not exist), and Eternal ( time did not exists) and All-powerful ( All that is is subservient to His volition).

So if He existed, since He is Eternal ( outside of Space and Time ), and Immaterial ( we are material beings), it seems that the way to KNOW Him would have to be something IMMATERIAL and TRANSCEDANT of Physicality. Such things include Knowledge, Love, Relationship, Faith ( simply meaning Trust, or Belief) etc etc... So the Judaic/Christian God is a bit of an enigma. This is why He is fallaciously called a "Sky god" like Zeus. How can this be if He existed BEFORE any SKY did?
