I think I see why their first two albums were so different. One big reason why is because they had a different approach at first - They figured they'd just play at local parties and clubs so they were more laid back and weren't serious about being a band. Once they made a larger impression their approach changed, They thought they had to be more serious and they lost the sound of the first songs they wrote though there were still some remnants of that sound up until Ricky died.
