  • I dont see why people are laughing. He's a good mixer

  • name of first song??

  • .............what jigibao said!

  • this is PROF dj...............

  • Try Serato! Then you won't have to have all those vinyls anymore!

  • during the 80s in the US 12" were 33rpm whereas in the EU all of them were pressed in 45rpm.

can u explain what is the reason for this?

also most of 45 12"s in the US were produced in the disco era ... late 70s

  • some of the cleanest mixing ive seen on here!!!!

  • dont like the tunes but thats what i call djin

    good post dude

  • how did you remove the instruments from the second ep, so that you could only hear Sharons voice?

    -im new in the dj-business.

  • LP*

  • This perspective is what a lot of the newer DJs are missing.

If your basic programming and selecting skills aren't up to snuff, then ultimately it doesn't matter if you can mash up 86 songs at once with that %$&#! Pioneer flanger effect running 95% of the time.

  • He looks like Gallagher.

    Smash a watermelon bro!

  • Gallagher? Maybe a little. I think I have just a touch more hair left though :)

  • @djisfan I miss doing these types of videos with you Julie. We work TOO MUCH and need to PLAY more often, brother!

  • sorry guys but I have to laugh...

  • Please do. Laughter is good for you.

  • My favorite use of doubles.. cutting out to an acapella! Especially great for freestyle and house.

  • Thx guys, Great video!!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......................hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • At 3:40 Brian points out that the break is coming up cuz he sees the shiny part on the record. You guys get that right? There will be a test. ;)

  • That was the video I had in mind for us to do that night. I'm glad we did this one. I want to do a video with you not only talking about groove patterns, but that guy who writes notes on the record presses we talked about. That's fun stuff!

  • im a noob, but what is the first record he is playing?

  • That's Sharon Redd's "Love How You Feel". Jam right? And then on the yellow label it's Yazoo "Situation"

  • im a noob, but what is the first record he is playing?

  • great tune

  • great tune

  • Good choice for a video to post up here Jullie.

  • Good video. Not only demonstrates the technique but also the skill involved in doing it old school. Respect.

Now class, think for a second.

Hmmmmm.... 2 copies of vinyl record and having to switch midsong, OR a 2 minute soundforge edit and have an "easymix" copy in CD/MP3 format ready to go for every "staple" song.

And when the die hard, curse at my cd decks turntablist is sweating the damn thing, I am leaning forward and casually getting cheeky with the brunette with the request.

  • Nobody is a purist in this video. We're just showing how something is done with turntables. Personally, I'm usually doing my live mixes with Mixmeister. But turntablism is SO much fun!

  • You are not the purist I speak of...

(our skillfull friend should chime in any moment now :) )

  • Ah Jullie isn't either. He's old skool as hell but he's very into the new technology as well. I've been hanging with him for about a year now and have found it IS possible to teach an old dog new tricks. HA!

  • I never thought of myself as a purist. I prefer using records but that's exactly why I chose Serato to play my mp3's. For gigs I go digital, it only makes sense. But if the right type of party comes up out come the 1200's.

  • Hey Jullie, dig the views on this video? I think they like you :)

  • must be my new cologne :) it's really cool that they're checking it out! I have a list of ideas I need to get crackin' on soon! work those butterflies out you know?

  • brian you silly, silly, man.

    i'm talking about skillz.

Skillz is the purist, I was just flavoring the conversation a bit to bring him out of the woodwork.

  • HA! Skillz is OK. We caught him on a bad day a while back, but we had spoken before that and sence then as well. He dabbles in other formats other than vinyl, he just LOVES vinyl... a LOT!

  • old? dog? what the %&$#?

  • OK, so you are not officialy old yet. We'll just call you old SKOOL and DOG, a bit like Randy from American Idol calls everyone he likes DOG. How does that settle with you, Jullie? HA!

  • Yeah you heard 40 is the new 20! Goofy logic, but it works for me! American Idol? What's that? Turn off the TV and listen to your music people!

  • hmm that must make me a Teenager. Shit, I hated being a Teenager the first time around.

  • HA!

  • Holy Hell, we've got over 4,000 views on this video, Julie!

  • totally awesome!

  • We're closer to 5K now. I think its' time we thought about doing another vid, don't you?

  • for sure man!

  • its yazoo ( situation )))))

gooooooooooooooooooooooddddd!!!this hit bombs in brazil !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    from brazil, junior baptista

  • This is so good! more , more , more!!! j

  • Haha Julian!!!

  • you laughing at me?

  • lol no. I recognized ya from Hotwater and then I subscribed to yer channel said hi.

  • oh, cool! I was confused - more so than usual. Thanks bro & I added your vids too!

  • I remember we had a great discussion. Really glad to have met you man! Gotta keep in touch!

  • yeeaah man!

  • good advice

  • Thank you, if only I could obtain a good cam, I'll post some vids.

    Musically yours,

    DJ Skillz (Wheels of Steel)

  • Ahhhh, the very sight of vinyl is almost sexual to me, in a musical sense of course. Because what is sex anyway except getting off, and music is our way of getting off. A high no drug could duplicate. Truly a very important video. Thank you both. The mix was very skillful. What I do now is start one song and let it ride into a few bars then start the 2nd copy: both on beat, except the lyrics are at different stages in the song.

  • I remember learning how to mix that way (where the vocals come in at different parts of the song. A bit like Row Row Row your boat) with old Stevie B 12" singles

  • lol rockin those Stevie B singles...AWESOME!!!!

  • Exactly. I did it with Billy Jean today; it's only good for a few seconds of play, quite annoying after a while, but effective nonetheless. Oh, Brian I'm starting a channel up called 'Vinyl-Ville' (in-house mixing) I'll let you know when it's ready. I played music for a comedy show last weekend, by first. Unlike doing parties, this was a good experience all togther. Having music playing before and after each act. That guy Hambuger from Def Comedy performed too.

  • I think Jullian has a video up of doing JUST that with Billie Jean.

Let me know when the new Channel is ready

  • That Was A Great Video. I Can Now Call Myself A Tru' Fan Of DJ Isfan; As A Matter Of Fact I'm Going To His Page To Subscribe Right Now!

  • That is a SWEET inexpensive effect, good job man...

    -Mike-

  • Thanks for the shout brian. Djisfan is an awesome dj and I am definately subscribing to his videos. Keep up the good work. I never thought about phasing on the two count. Good tips. Peace

  • ya i have question how come your friend was not at practice and enjoy 2008?

  • Jullian was there and did a great mix at Hot Water. He's in the videos

  • great mixing! i had no idea u were that good :). i'll check out your channel soon

  • good mix..:)

  • cool video, 1 frendly tip brian, next time (example for 4:30 and before) film the mixer, not the record turning on the tt ;)

  • 2 very interesting tricks!

  • what's the title of the track at 1:50?

  • Sometimes the artist is called YAZ, other times the artists is called Yazoo. It depends on where you live. In the UK, they were Yazoo, in the USA, Yaz

The song is called Situation. It's off the album "Upstairs At Erics".

I hear they have just gotten back together and a new album is on it's way!

  • I have vinyl with both those names on the albums (US).What I heard was they got sued for using Yazoo and then changed it to Yaz.

  • thats correct. check out the track "dont go" by yazoo superb!

  • I've got that 12" laying around somewhere. Brilliant track! It didn't get too much attention here in the US unfortunatelly.

  • Shows how old I am, I saw them at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 1982. They only had one album at that time so for the 2nd encore they played Situation again!

Great vid, guys - even for those of us who haven't touched a Technics in years, there's lots of good advice going on.

  • check out "State Farm" also by Yaz. Great classic!

  • Sick, it's great that more experienced DJs are getting involved with tutorials. The more viewpoints we get the more options we have because like you guys always say, there's more than one way to do something.

  • you can also go in at the 4 but you have to count an extra bar, its also easier to count along with the bass drum
