This perspective is what a lot of the newer DJs are missing.

That was the video I had in mind for us to do that night. I'm glad we did this one. I want to do a video with you not only talking about groove patterns, but that guy who writes notes on the record presses we talked about. That's fun stuff!
Good video. Not only demonstrates the technique but also the skill involved in doing it old school. Respect.
Now class, think for a second.
Hmmmmm.... 2 copies of vinyl record and having to switch midsong, OR a 2 minute soundforge edit and have an "easymix" copy in CD/MP3 format ready to go for every "staple" song.
And when the die hard, curse at my cd decks turntablist is sweating the damn thing, I am leaning forward and casually getting cheeky with the brunette with the request.
Nobody is a purist in this video. We're just showing how something is done with turntables. Personally, I'm usually doing my live mixes with Mixmeister. But turntablism is SO much fun!
Ah Jullie isn't either. He's old skool as hell but he's very into the new technology as well. I've been hanging with him for about a year now and have found it IS possible to teach an old dog new tricks. HA!
I never thought of myself as a purist. I prefer using records but that's exactly why I chose Serato to play my mp3's. For gigs I go digital, it only makes sense. But if the right type of party comes up out come the 1200's.
must be my new cologne :) it's really cool that they're checking it out! I have a list of ideas I need to get crackin' on soon! work those butterflies out you know?
HA! Skillz is OK. We caught him on a bad day a while back, but we had spoken before that and sence then as well. He dabbles in other formats other than vinyl, he just LOVES vinyl... a LOT!
OK, so you are not officialy old yet. We'll just call you old SKOOL and DOG, a bit like Randy from American Idol calls everyone he likes DOG. How does that settle with you, Jullie? HA!
Ahhhh, the very sight of vinyl is almost sexual to me, in a musical sense of course. Because what is sex anyway except getting off, and music is our way of getting off. A high no drug could duplicate. Truly a very important video. Thank you both. The mix was very skillful. What I do now is start one song and let it ride into a few bars then start the 2nd copy: both on beat, except the lyrics are at different stages in the song.
I remember learning how to mix that way (where the vocals come in at different parts of the song. A bit like Row Row Row your boat) with old Stevie B 12" singles
Exactly. I did it with Billy Jean today; it's only good for a few seconds of play, quite annoying after a while, but effective nonetheless. Oh, Brian I'm starting a channel up called 'Vinyl-Ville' (in-house mixing) I'll let you know when it's ready. I played music for a comedy show last weekend, by first. Unlike doing parties, this was a good experience all togther. Having music playing before and after each act. That guy Hambuger from Def Comedy performed too.
Thanks for the shout brian. Djisfan is an awesome dj and I am definately subscribing to his videos. Keep up the good work. I never thought about phasing on the two count. Good tips. Peace
Sometimes the artist is called YAZ, other times the artists is called Yazoo. It depends on where you live. In the UK, they were Yazoo, in the USA, Yaz
The song is called Situation. It's off the album "Upstairs At Erics".
I hear they have just gotten back together and a new album is on it's way!
Shows how old I am, I saw them at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 1982. They only had one album at that time so for the 2nd encore they played Situation again!
Great vid, guys - even for those of us who haven't touched a Technics in years, there's lots of good advice going on.
Sick, it's great that more experienced DJs are getting involved with tutorials. The more viewpoints we get the more options we have because like you guys always say, there's more than one way to do something.
I dont see why people are laughing. He's a good mixer

during the 80s in the US 12" were 33rpm whereas in the EU all of them were pressed in 45rpm.
can u explain what is the reason for this?
also most of 45 12"s in the US were produced in the disco era ... late 70s

thats correct. check out the track "dont go" by yazoo superb!

you can also go in at the 4 but you have to count an extra bar, its also easier to count along with the bass drum
