why all the comparisons to the original? musical theater was meant to be played over and over with different casts. if you like the other one better, than watch that one instead, nothings stopping ya
The high tenor is amazingly weak! He is relying on falsetto to hit the high notes but doesn't have the breath support to back it up. Most likely he's not a tenor at all, but a jumped up baritone, or a lyric baritone.
I was wondering how this 2003 quartet would match up against the Buffalo Bills. This musical's quartet music was written specifically for the Buffalo Bills by the writer of the music.
I was very disappointed, this quartet's tenor was a mere shadow eclipsed by Vern Reed, the original tenor.
watch the video in my channel. it will direct you to a website where you will be able to watch the full 1962 version of music man. IT WORKS I PROMISE.
I have to say, htough I do tend to prefer Robert Preston's enthusiasm in the older Music Man movie, I do like Matthew's singing and take on Harold Hill. I do prefer Kristin Chenoweth to Shirley Jones because I think her take on Marian is much more as intended in the original script. I also love how this movie follows the original script nearly to a tee. Major thumbs up on it!
My college did Music Man last semester in the Fall. I played Constable Locke but my costume was WAY different than the one the guy is wearing in this video. It was alot of fun to do it and it was my first musical ever!
Oh, this is just the worst acting I've ever scene, made all the worse that they take no originality in their lines. I can clearly match this part in the movie to the part in the older (and better) movie. And the Buffalo Bills (the quartet in the old one) own these barber shop rejects like Rikki-Tikki-Tavi owns Nagaina.
That's because the original quartet is the Buffalo Bills, the 1950 Barbershop Harmony Society International Quartet Contest champions. These guys are pretty good singers, but they don't know anything about barbershop.
these guys aint got shit on the buffalo bills! it doesnt even sound like barbershop style, they break the phrases far too hard and the lock and ring isnt nearly as good
Beutiful barbershop singing, but I prefer the old schoolboardmembers. Especially the tenor who nailed the high notes without falsetto. This is still very good though.
hehe! I'm playing Zaneeta in a communitty theatre production. I don't know how much longer I can stand hearing myself saying "Ye gods!" lol I annoy my self soo much! =P
sure, i know harold hill is a conman, but i just LOVE how he comes in and stirs up the whole town. :) it's just such a perfect definition of a musical. there's a standard, and that standard is totally turned upside down by one or a few ruffians. :)
... You thought Robert Preston was good at singing?
It was acknowledged by the film makers that Preston had a very limited range, so he had to chuck a Rex Harrison and speak-sing through some of the melodies.
Try watching this movie as something different, not something trying to upstage the original.
i know ppl keep saying matt brod is no good at this role but on the other hand. i'm only 17 and this would be my first time actually seeing to music man so i must say I'm enjoying it regardless. It's deff nice to actually recognize the actors. :P ( Chenoweth is superb as well )
The guys in the quartet are the Dapper Dans from Disneyland!! I love them!! They were also the singing busts in The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy.
I still LOVE the original. Kristin Chenoweth is so good for the part of Marian (the librarian!). Anyway, Matthew Broderick? Don't got bad bone in his body! I don't know why he talking! He's so innocent.
When I meant the original, I meant the one with Robert Preston. Kristin Chenoweth wasn't born yet! I wish she was in the original. Well actually, if she was, she would be very OLD right now! heh heh heh!
@greentrombone I'm a trombone player too! And the magnificent Vern Reed -tenor of the Buffalo Bills -he was one of a kind. Most if not all barbershop tenors of the last 40+ years have been falsetto.Vern owned thosed full voice high b-naturals-amazing!
