@GunWebsites Hey I am a weapons enthusiast and I would like to know if you have fired the newer model BREN TEN. If so, I would like to know how the recoil and handling of the pistol is, with the BREN TEN being one of my favorite pistol, I've been thinking about purchasing one.
I remember back in 89' every kid in the neighborhood wanted "the miami vice gun". One of us actually found a toy gun that looked exactly like it after scraping the black paint off. We took turns running around yelling "freeze"! Awesome times.
@thekapow Because engineers express sizes in mm (europeans) and certain calibers were developed by them in europe. Also it would suck to call other calibers in cm like 0.9 cm and such. Architects obviously don't work in mm because they work with far larger sizes. Also if you think doing math on your fingers is stupid go back to roman numerals. Seriously, the metric system is completely superior.
firstly.. im an architect from europe.. i only work in mm/millimeters, never cm or meters.. due to building tollerances and so on, also to prevet round up and so on during calculation.
secon.. when did i say math on my fingers was bad xD? i do it all the time.. i think you might have read my comments out of context or something?..
Even though the Bren Ten and the 10mm Auto round never got off the ground, at least it gave birth to the .40 S&W (Or the ".40 Short & Weak" if you're a fan of the 10mm Auto round)
@aquadax1 Because of the exactness of the number. 1cm can be anywhere from 5mm to <15mm based on decimal rounding. 10mm would be frmo 9.5mm to <10.5mm (even that is big when it comes to barrel tolerances, but at least it proves how different 1cm and 10mm is).
@Inkompetent Dude... you really think 1 cm can be 14 mm? I mean really... either you're trolling or you really are stupid as hell. That is same thing as i would say 1€ is 105cents.
@Ozku9 I don't think. I know. If you for example add 0.9cm and 0.4cm together you end up with 1.3cm. However due to numerical exactness (one number in both cases) the measurements aren't exact enough to know if it's a little less than 1.3cm, a little more, or exactly. Thus you fall back to say that it is "1cm", since that is the accuracy you KNOW you have. (even if it was 0.94cm + 0.44cm it's still only 1.38cm, i.e. less than any error in exactness that could round the end result to 2cm)
IDK about Sonny carying a 4506, in the episode (deliver us from evil) sonny clearly pulls out a 1006, and holds it up close to the camera. Its definately not a 4506
@414yoda "IDK about Sonny carying a 4506, in the episode (deliver us from evil) sonny clearly pulls out a 1006, and holds it up close to the camera. Its definately not a 4506"
What "Crockett" carried in the show, at least what was published, was the Bren-Ten, then a 645, and in season 5 the 4506. What they put in his hand for that particular scene may have indeed been a 1006, as they use the same frame and look identical from a distance. However, it was *published* to be an S&W model 645.

my uncle had one and the thing jammed like mad almost every other round the slide was horribly gritty when you racked it and yes he bought a custom made mag for it for $80 bc he didn't get one with it. BTW in the end the manufacturer killed it most where good but not all think about 900 of them worked fine
There is less than 1000 of them made. Only made for 2 years, and are very valuable. It would be like asking, "why do you have two cars when you can only drive one at a time?"
well i know the bren 10 was poulory(bad spelling i know) with gangs because it was used in tv alot. gangs loved this because it was inoc in the 80s. i have gotten to shoot this before a firearms show. great gun
Yours was made in 1983 according to your serial #. The first 2 #'s in the serial # is the year made. It is NOT all stainless... the slide has been hard chromed... some did this to make it look like Det. Sonny Crocketts firearm in the first 2 seasons of Miami Vice. Dornous and Dixon didnt offer a hard chromed version.
I have a question what is the difference between a mag and a clip? Because i always thought a clip was only for pistols and yeolde rifles and mags are for machineguns
@GunWebsites Everything online about Brens says that you have to watch out for "fake" magazines, as in mags not produced by D&D, but in the future if I can buy one I don't care about the mags, I just want to take the Bren and cradle it..........
@melikeit23 A clip is used to load a magazine. Mags have followers and springs, while clips just hold rounds together, clip them together, for loading into the mag.
@melikeit23 Also note there are two common type of clips. Stripper clips with 5 or 10 rounds used to load a magazine. There are also En-Bloc clips which hold the rounds and are inserted clip and all into the weapon. The most common en-bloc clip is the one used for the M1 Garand. After the last shot was fired, the rifle ejected the clip so a new fully loaded clip can be inserted.
99% of all firearms use mags. all semi-auto handguns and most rifles use mags, some older rifles use clips. a clip is a thin strip that holds rounds that feed an internal magazine.
Clips feed mags and mags feed guns. Most old military rifles use stripper clips to load the internal magazines. Most modern military rifles are mag fed.
I have several of these on order. The new ones are suppose to use Witness Magazines and will not have the Gunsite Raven on the slide. The introduction which was suppose to be this month has been delayed and I hope not for long.
That's cool you got your hands on this. So much better to watch these than the videos about Richard hewitts (aka nutn) big shoot in the gun community. I guess you wernt cool enough to be invited to Richards top secret shoot?
Another thing I forgot to add is that I have an EAA Witness Elite Match, and the grip looks very similar, and I hope it is. The grip on my EAA is extremely comfortable.
VLTOR is coming out with one of these, or at least were last I knew. I know they were going to call it the Fortis, but I had heard (no solid proof) that VLTOR had bought the rights to the BrenTen name. I'd love to have one of these!
Watch out don't fire that pistol. The reason is that the slide( and in fact all Bren Ten slides) have a flaw in the metal substrait. Small micro-cracks that with repeated shootings will grow larger until failure. So it's a show piece and that's all it can be. The slides were investment cast.
@sjetwrench ALL Bren Ten slides? If you have an original Bren, and don't want to have it magnafluxed, or otherwise tested for internal faults, then yes, not shooting it would be the best way to protect your investment. There are lots of Brens that have been shot, and continue to be shot.
Only 1500 pistols were made between 1983 to 85. The pistol came to fame in gun circles becuase Jeff Cooper help design the pistol. The eagle in the frame is for Gunsite. The pistol came to national fame from the TV Show Miami Vice where it was carried by Don Johnson's character. interesting piece of trivia is that the pistol was hard chrome so it would show better on camara and the pistol used in the show was a 45acp not a 10mm sinve there was no 10 blanks!
@GunWebsites I Stand Corrected you are Correct! The FORTIS is having issues since the release date that was supposed to have been in May is now sometime before the end of the year. Vltor is going to use EAA mags which can be problematic. Vltor for some reason lost or never received the blessing from the Jeff Cooper family or Gunsite. Every aspect of the pistol is intended to create the Ultimate Combat Pistol as seen thru the eyes of Col. Jeff Cooper. You should have handled it more careful
Crockett drove the black Daytona Spyder when he used the Bren Ten. The Testarossa came into the series in the third season when he started to use a S&W 645.
@dykesy30 well thanks for making me look like a total dumbass. i was just pandering to the uneducated masses who only know of the white testarossa, that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it :P
Last I heard the Vlt0r Bren Ten (formally Vltor Fortis) version won't have the raven logo... at least not the initial run. I think they are still trying to get the rights to do that. The Vltor version is nearly the same in appearance but not the same internally. Ohh and Vltor is offering what they are calling a "viced" model with a HC slide.
@mrhnm Probably not as bad as you think. I shoot a Glock 20 in 10mm Auto and the recoil isn't bad. Also the Bren is quite heavy which would dampen the recoil.
You seriously think some bad guy is going to make an exact replica of a $2000+ Bren Ten, then watch this video for a serial #, then commit some crime, and leave a photo or a charcoal rubbing of this serial number
Seriously though, people say this and I understand the concept, but I just do not see where knowing some random serial number is going to put anyone at risk..
@GunWebsites I never known the thinking behind it either.
some one shed me some light please, I guess the idea is some one being an ass and reporting the serial # stolen, but I dunno how easy or hard would that be? since you would want to skip filing a police report
It was the Miami Vice gun Sonny Crockett used for the first two seasons. After that they went to the Smith & Wesson 645, another great and overlooked pistol.
"The Bren Ten is a semi-automatic pistol designed to advance the state of the art in sidearms, combining a new more powerful round with a weapon of greater strength and accuracy. The cartridge developed as the 10 mm Auto, while the gun was a larger and stronger version of the 9x19mm Parabellum CZ-75."
@BallisstiXXX Ballisitically, the original 10mm round, as introduced in the early 1980s, was somewhat more powerful than .357 Magnum (200gr bullet at 1200 feet per second muzzle velocity). Today, it's been downloaded by most major ammo manufacturers to little more than .45 ACP +P (200gr @ 1000-1100fps).

now ya just need a white testarossa.
FatGuyWithAKatana 1 year ago 13
@FatGuyWithAKatana The Testarossa didn't arrive before the start of Season Three of Miami Vice.. He better needs a Daytona..
Great job with the video, I loved it! Can't wait for the VLTOR's version of the gun!
TheHiddenPart 1 year ago
@TheHiddenPart yeah i know but i like the testarossa better :I
FatGuyWithAKatana 1 year ago
@FatGuyWithAKatana
Crockett drove the black Daytona Spyder when he used the Bren Ten. The Testarossa came into the series in the third season when he started to use a S&W 645.
dykesy30 8 months ago
@dykesy30 well thanks for making me look like a total dumbass. i was just pandering to the uneducated masses who only know of the white testarossa, that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it :P

@FatGuyWithAKatana Sorry :P
Hardcore Miami Vice fan here, and I like correcting people, I'm a dick :P

That's not the only gun Crocket used. He also used a S&W 4506 and a S&W 645 in various seasons.

is 10mm bigger then 45 auto?
ilovekershaw 1 year ago
@ilovekershaw Not in diameter, but it is in length. It's also more powerful by quite a bit.
Riflemanm16a2 1 year ago
@ilovekershaw no, just longer

I don't want to think about the recoil on that weapon.
mrhnm 1 year ago
@mrhnm Probably not as bad as you think. I shoot a Glock 20 in 10mm Auto and the recoil isn't bad. Also the Bren is quite heavy which would dampen the recoil.

@mrhnm
Shot it today, not too bad.. video to come

Do you own all these firearms? I am so jealous ...

I think you should put edit out your gun serial number
It is dangerous! :> A friendly reminder
zerobinary2 1 year ago
@zerobinary2
really?
You seriously think some bad guy is going to make an exact replica of a $2000+ Bren Ten, then watch this video for a serial #, then commit some crime, and leave a photo or a charcoal rubbing of this serial number
Seriously though, people say this and I understand the concept, but I just do not see where knowing some random serial number is going to put anyone at risk..
GunWebsites 1 year ago
@GunWebsites I never known the thinking behind it either.
some one shed me some light please, I guess the idea is some one being an ass and reporting the serial # stolen, but I dunno how easy or hard would that be? since you would want to skip filing a police report
terahybrid 1 year ago
It was the Miami Vice gun Sonny Crockett used for the first two seasons. After that they went to the Smith & Wesson 645, another great and overlooked pistol.

DudeNumberOnePlus 1 year ago
@DudeNumberOnePlus From Wikipedia -
"The Bren Ten is a semi-automatic pistol designed to advance the state of the art in sidearms, combining a new more powerful round with a weapon of greater strength and accuracy. The cartridge developed as the 10 mm Auto, while the gun was a larger and stronger version of the 9x19mm Parabellum CZ-75."
I guess it really was designed after the CZ-75.

Except in 10mm
GunWebsites 1 year ago
@GunWebsites what exactly is 10mm closely compareable to? .45?
BallisstiXXX 1 year ago
@BallisstiXXX Ballisitically, the original 10mm round, as introduced in the early 1980s, was somewhat more powerful than .357 Magnum (200gr bullet at 1200 feet per second muzzle velocity). Today, it's been downloaded by most major ammo manufacturers to little more than .45 ACP +P (200gr @ 1000-1100fps).

nice looking gun for it's age. Never seen one before.

One can't bring up the Bren Ten without talking about Col. Jeff Cooper. If not for him this pistol would not have been made, or so I've been told.
MrSilentSam01 1 year ago
@MrSilentSam01
I agree, I mentioned the Raven, but I didn't want to butcher the story
I'll let someone else explain those details
GunWebsites 1 year ago
@GunWebsites I hear you on that. If Jeff Cooper is going to be talked about the least we could do is get his story right. Awesome vid & awesome gun!

I noticed @ 5:25 the mag shot out while on its side like it had a spring release to push it out faster. Is that common or unique in this weapon?
Derail07 1 year ago
@Derail07
The spring in the mag does that, as long as the mag isn't too tight, most pistols let the mags drop out easily like that
GunWebsites 1 year ago
Beautiful Firearm. I never shot a 10mm before
