I used to watch this on a Thursday, as it followed Top Of The Pops. As a 10 year old at the time, it was one of the few times during the week when I was home alone! And, I loved being able to, 'control', the television! And this was one of the programmes I used to watch every week. Ah, great days..
What we watched just as we were emerging from the Winter of Discontent and were about to embark on the long years of Thatcherism. David Jason looks strange with dark hair. When I first saw Alfred Marks in this clip I thought for a moment it was Clement Freud.
It was revealed that he was holding a dummy car aerial to look like a mic, because he insisted that he had to hold something. Kenny Everett came in one episode and snapped it in half!
Wow, I wouldn't even be born until June.
Freaky stuff watching this now, knowing where I was at the time!

I always thought that Blankety Blank started in October of 1979. I remember watching the very first programme, I was about 11 at the time.

David Jason is my fave actor. Yes he was 39 in this episode in 1979. Its amazing how quick he went grey in the 1990s.

On his first episode as the host Les Dawson broke the microphone in half to the cheer of the studio audience.

Kenny Everett always bent the microphone when he was on Blankety Blank.

The fake mike was based on the real mike used by Gene Rayburn in the US.

Does David Jason look very young in this clip of Blankety Blank from 1979 he must've been 39 years old?

Unique looking set for the first series which looks like the set for the US version of the show Match Game.
