  • ive had 4 keeshonds (relative to elkhound) and one samoyed(looks like your elky). they're not much for huntin though and i love to hunt so i would love to have one of these. where can i get one?

  • @jimbobsports You probably have to get one from Sweden, Norway or Finland. Contact the Swedish White Elkhound association at "vitalghund.se" for more information.

  • WOAH! I really want to get into hunting now - if it means i can train a kickass dog like that! :D

  • Beautiful dog! Are they natural hunters, or does it require alot of training, for a reliable hunter?

  • @TheRyesick1 Thanks! I will say it’s a combination between instinct/nature and systematic training. The dogs nature/instinct is partly controlled by breeding, and the training involves bringing the best out of the dog both mental and physical. In Norway the dog and handler must undergo some tests if we are to use the dog for big game hunting, and that requires a fair amount of training.

  • wow, never seen a white elkhound! beautiful dog!

  • Yes, Northern Norway.

  • @vargafrost I have an Elkhound and she is lovely but I got her to tramp with and she gets very hot in the summertime being dark-colored. She is 7 now and we are in New Zealand. However I am interested in the Jamthund down-the-road for a tramping dog since they are part Norwegian Elkhound and have many similarities. Are the white Jamthunds more expensive maybe due to being less available than the more common grey ones? Also do they tend to bark a lot at many noises? Mine does. Thanks.

  • @anglinthemtns This is a Swedish White Elkhound, it is not the same breed as Jämthund. They are very calm and don’t bark much. They are known for their exceptional good disposition. The breed is not more expensive than other elkhounds, but they are as you assumed less availably because it is a relatively new breed and because of fast growing popularity.

  • @vargafrost Wikipedia states that the Swedish Elkhound is part Jamthund and part Norwegian Elkhound- you may wish to check this. The white Jamthunds do not look like the Norwegian Elkhound much but your dog looks like the grey Norwegian Elkhound but white- so why then is this breed not called a White Norwegian Elkhound instead of a Swedish Norwegian Elkhound if it is not part Jamthund? Perhaps this info is not correct on Wikipedia and someone should correct it. Thanks.

  • @anglinthemtns Swedish White Elkhound must not be confused with Swedish Elkhound (Jämthund). I think maybe you’re confused by these terms of use. I can’t find any listing of Swedish White Elkhound on wiki in English language, only Jämthund (Swedish Elkhound) and Norwegian Elkhound. The Swedish White Elkhound was bred in Sweden in the 1940’s by a number of different spitz type dogs.

  • @anglinthemtns Unfortunately my English isn’t good enough to give you a proper explanation about this, but I hope you understand that the breed is a unique breed despite similarities to the Jämthund and Norwegian Elkhound.

  • @vargafrost Okay- I understand now. Thank you.

  • @anglinthemtns kennet.skk.se/skk/?id=524&sprak=en This site explains everything.

  • lovely dog

  • Thanks :-)
