  • i met burgin at a military show hes a great man and hed told me how okinawa and pleliu were bad and told me how he knew slege

  • i could only wish to have the balls that these men had

  • I wish they did a marines of the pacific on snafu, he was such an interesting character.

  • i had no clue of his belfast accent,,great actor then

  • Romus Valton Burgin was my favorite character in the entire series.

  • the actor is irish? whodathunk it.

  • this man blows my mind!

  • i am a fourteen year old canadian, and i have just as great a respect for the American men that gave their lives as i do for the Canadians. When i come across a veteran, i dont exactly have the oppurtunity to "thank" them so to speak, but i can appreciate the fact that one is in my presence. and for the record, i dont care for todays "nonsense" as much i care for the past. I salute those men who survived and died for us.

  • It makes me uncomfortable to think my generation has the luxury of not knowing these realities. Though I'm thankful for that, oh so thankful, I still can't help but worry for myself and my peers - if it came to it again, would we be man enough to do their legacy justice? Not so say ours guys in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya aren't on their own proving ground of course, but these guys really dipped in hell a bit for us. The state of honor in the youth of the US and in myself worries me.

  • Thank you R.V. My grandfather M/Sergeant Jack Linnehan was a pacific veteran and you marines are the best men I have ever had the honor to know. Semper Fi

  • I have respect for heroes like this...a real hero is not only someone who is tough in the frontline but someone who cares for the men beside him.

    You are a true hero

  • R.V Burgin Wrote a book about his time in the war. Its called Islands of the Damned. Great read.

  • IM SORRY I HAD TO BE FIRST TO DISLIKE I LOVE THIS THOUGH CANT AIT TO WATCH IT THIS SATURDAY

  • Irishman playing an American HAHA, awesome!

  • @lonewolf604 Lots of Scots-Irish pioneered the Southern Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina from the mid-1700's and then moved on to Texas in the 1820's and 30's. The Scots-Irish line is a dominant one running through the British Isles, Canada, Australia and here in the U.S. Makes us all family you might say.

  • Not only respect for these guys; we don't want to surrender what they fought for: freedom ! Therefore reject all muslim indoctrination and " demands ", islam and democracy don't mix. They are the new enemy on the shores of the developed world.

  • Imagine all the things they had to spend. Not easy and it's really painful

  • My step dads best m8 is the one that plays him Martin McCann cousin and I'm going to meet him

  • Bless all the men who have shed their blood together as brothers for a better and free tomorrow.

  • Marines all the way!

  • This is why we sleep soundly at night, in a warm bed. This is why we can walk outside of our house and feal relatively safe. This is why we can live the "good life", or "live it up" here in america. So next time you see a little kid playing in the street, smile on there face with out a care in the world this is why. Remember these men next time you and your friends are at the movies etc; bcuz it is soley becasue of men like this that you can do that in such a care free manor.

  • from Australia thanks for keeping the Japs out of my country. cheers

  • burgin is scottish, never guessed

  • @SonofRa47 - All those Men came from backrounds as diverse as anyother military unit in any war. The bottomline is they where all Americans and they are all Marines.

  • wow i never wud hav known the actor who plays him is from belfast, my hometown and a good catholic name too , probably from the falls

  • R.V. Burgin and all that served with him will always be remebered for serving to keep America Free, The one thing I am for certain is I greatfull for the men and woman of the armed forces who serve our country in time of need so that we as american people can continue to enjoy the civil liberties that they are fighting so hard to keep. I found this particular youtube video by entering my last name and found a trailer of the mini series that Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg is directing.

  • i have the utmost respect for these men i am only 16 but i have read the pacific, with the old breed, helmet for my pillow, and flags of my father these men were the greatest generation to ever live

  • From the U K Thank you all for what you did.

  • I would gladly take a free role in such a serie, just for the tremendous honor of simply playing a WW2 soldier. Just food and shelter would be a good enough pay for me !

  • thumbs up if you want to see next part about Snafu

  • @sniperRobert LOL i really wanna see one about SNAFU he was my favorite Character he is freaking AWSOME!!!

  • I loved Burgin when I watched The Pacific and my favorite parts of his were when he said to Sledge, "You ok?" That 10 minute stretch was one of my favorite fighting scenes. Then i teared up when he went home and said his goodbyes to Sledge and Snafu.

  • my great grandpa was at pearl harbor on a cruiser when the japanese attacked and he was on guadalcanal to. the only thing he ever talked about was a zero flyin at him when he was on the deck when the attack started and it flyin straight at him and firing and he said it missed him right at the last second flew over his head and hit the ship next to him

  • People of America,

Let it be recognized, that these brave, brave men, made the decesion, in one way or another, to keep this nation alive. So we as civi's better not fuck it up. We are not to split and argue over silly shit like abortion, religion, or who is better. For we are human beings with an oppertunity to make the world a more humane place for people of ever culture to survive. So lets take that idea and make it reality.

America, lets keep it beautiful people.

  • 1:48 Peleliu Hills = Hell on Earth

  • Some youngsters now dun care about the past

they think it is old fashioned 'out dated'

This Event shaped the world there is nothing to be cool about it

    the hard work

  • I wonder if someday that this team of Spielburg and Hanks will work on a film of Korea or even Vietnam.

  • @jager18903 That would be great. I hope they do.

  • @jager18903 I would love to see a movie about the 1st Marine Division at the Frozen Chosin!

  • I met R.V Burgin today at the WWII weekend at the Reading Airport in P.A i met him along with Sid Phillps and other WWII veterans that fought in the Pacific

  • I could not watch this because i did not get the channel on my cable company. Will it ever go to dvd? My father served in the 3rd marine division in the pacific from 42 to 45. I heard some of the stories about bouganville and guam and iwo jima. He could see them raise the flag on surabachi from the shore line. Was this series better than band of brothers?

  • @barmtrail BoB was 100x better than The Pacific sadly. So much potential, but some problems were that the episodes were too short, around 45 minutes each, the time was badly spread out as half an episode is about Gloucester, but there is an entire episodeon Melbourne. Next, the Okinawa episode was a disaster in my opinion as it lacked everything. Look up the series on yidio, just google yidio, and you can watch it.

  • @barmtrail It'll be released on DVD and Blu Ray in November this year. Keep an eye out for it. And I'm not sure. I'm waiting for it's release, too.

  • um the australian guy im australian too and wat about Kokoda we fought by ourselves without marines and conquered werent for them we would be a japenese nation. To all soldiers not just our allies, germans japenese and others we salute u all for ur sacrifices to ur countrys RIP all of you

  • im 12 years old,i hate the stupid xbox 360.everyday i see some whiney kid begging for a video game.what am i whining for?a ww2 helmet or a maybe even just a strap.there is a game called "CALL OF DUTY WORLD AT WAR".ive met kids who said"i have cod 5,i wouldve loved to fight becus of those weapons!and was there such a prtson named sgt roebuck?"

then whether how much they piss me off or not i just walk away.. i have friends who still care though.

  • true heroes.

  • how could a man so adorable be involved in such a horrific war

  • people of our day and age do not appriciate the sacrefice, blood shed, the emotions the allies went through and are too busy doing useless things instead. if i were to ever see a vetran i would thank them for the sacrefices in which they had suffered. I like to believe the men who served, served for a better world.

  • I'm only 13 if it weren't for them our world would be a different place. god bless the marines

  • I'm 13 but if it weren't for the marines the world would be a different place. the PACIFIC is a great seris that shows what they did. GOD BLESS THE MARINES

  • i love watching this miniseries i think it is great that these men fought for their country but it is sad that most of these men lost their lives along the way i really appreciate these men fighting for their country and fighting for what they believe in.

  • RV has a book out btw

  • I have one hero. Ok two I lied. My grandfather a Marine Guadalcanal Vet. ((I-3-11) 1st Marine Div.) and Lance Armstrong. Lance I wont be talking about though :P

This mini series is incredible and extremely powerful, and accurate from what Ive been told by my grandfather and researched. I am soo thankful of the Australians too. damn if we didnt have them there at that time I may not be even able to make this post...

God Bless the Marines and fellow service man

And Thanks to all who made this

  • Amen!

  • all men who fought in ww2 are heroes british polish canadian american russian doesnt mather the free world we live in is because of those men

  • @34ytrhtrghrf A thousand thumbs up to you!

  • I grew up amongst these men as a child in the 50s and they made me who I am today. I am grateful for their decency, their morality, and their dedication to their families. As a veteran of the Vietnam War I fully comprehend what they went through - they are my brothers and my fathers and I love them for that. This country owes its greatness to these men never forget that.

  • I find it sad that not enough Americans appreciate what these men went through and did for this country. I mean, the youth of today cares more about nonsense than history. Everytime I meet a vet I thank them. It;s the least I or anyone else can do.

  • I agree with you. Im in the Army myself...Afghan vet...and i thank you for caring. Thank you and thanks for letting us serve this great country.

  • @PathofReason mate, i find sad that not enough Australians appreciate what those men went through and also did for MY country. If it weren't for the Marines, I would be voting for Hideo Takachi, not for Tony Abbot!!! We were so shit scared, the Aust govt. was literally going to hand the Japanese the eastern half of Australia, if they got to close, no questions asked coz most the entire army was in Africa! so all I can say is thank you.

  • @PathofReason and not just Americans, I seem to be one of the few from the younger generation that truly appreciate Military History. All veterans deserve the utmost respect for what they had to go through.

  • @PathofReason hey im 14 years old but i dont care about nonsense shit. These marines are the reason asia is liberated by now. if it werent for them, well I dont know. The marines had the toughest missions in the entire war. yeah Im not american but I can tell you that these guys liberated asia. My home.

  • @PathofReason I find your statement true. I'm just a 14 year old, and I'm more appreciative of the men in WWII that fought for there country. You know, I don't even know much of the pop culture today because I'm to busy shoulder deep in studies. Not that I'm a loner without friends but I happen to grow a lot of respect because I know more than the average teen.

  • @homieslush

    You keep at it....

  • Is difference that these men defended their country? Now all we defend is profit. We have a choice as individuals, to go and fight or not. We face the consequences if we choose to murder. It is the responsability of the individual to educate ones self.

  • @PathofReason Except me, who is a WWII reenactor. And and same thing with vets.

  • @PathofReason I agree. My generation, in general, hasn't a clue how grateful they ought to be to every one who has served for this country. My father was a Marine and my grandfather was in the army, and I can't believe the lack of appreciation. To any servicemen or women who read this, Thank you!

  • @PathofReason 19 and I fully appreciate these good men.

  • @PathofReason very true:)

  • @PathofReason

Some youth of today do still care and I live and serve with them everyday. We stand on the shoulders of giants that fought and died in WWII. We continue to fight all over the world for the same reasons they did.

  • @usmcurt Couldn't have said it better myself. It's an honor to serve this country in the shadows of these brave heroes!!

  • @PathofReason I agree nobody should forget. I think remembering ww2 vets has never been stronger, with all the available media. My grandfather was a hero to me, but with each new generation the living memories of those who faught in ww2 gets smaller and smaller.

  • Semper Fi

  • BoB like it really!! its great.. i am 14 but i have great respect for these mens!

REALLY BLESS YOU GUYS IN THE PACIFIC ;)
