My unit ran out of slots for my current MOS, which I hate. I'm reclassing into this one. I wanted this MOS to begin with but my idiot recruiter had her own agenda.
0:52 - 1:02 oh man, of all the people in the army why did they have to show my mom? She's always either yelling at somebody or being dogpiled by four men at once. This is everyday for her :(
not another mental health specialist...... pritty soon they will say they have another cure for ptsd and send us all on the streets...they just dont want to pay for all the vets coming back from war with ptsd...
@cram0305 Because it used to be 91X before that it was actually 2 different MOS 91F (Psychiatric Technician) Inpatient and 91G (Behavioral Science Specialist) Outpatient. Around 1995 or so they lumped them to 91X. Then they changed them again. I used to be a 91F and I can say it was hard to find a job afterwards unless I wanted to clean bed pans for a living.
i told my recruiter i wanted to pick this mos and he almost immediately shut me down......WHY? they both say its not available....fucking lame. why why why?
@brefool93 do you have to be a medic? i heard you have to go through being a medic before you can move into the real psychological stuff. is this true?
@SailorReyes No, as far as i'm concerned. you may touch on it a little bit. but doubtful. I did end up as an 68Q so, i've kinda slacked on looking into and researching other MOS's so i may be wrong
@steelbladerob If you're in a COSC unit (Combat Operational Stress Control), you might see combat if you decide to go out with the units. Otherwise, the most "combat" you'll see is on a convoy, or if you get mortared.
I'm a 68X. Gotta have LOTS of patience amd have much resilience when it comes to listening to people and their troubling situations. It is rewarding though and listening to other people's problems in a way makes you feel more grateful for what you have or do not have to deal with.
I would say yes. As a Behavioral Health Specialist (yeah they just changed our name) you will work closely with Psychiatrist/Psychologist/Social Workers. It would definately give you some good OJT and experiance. Best of luck to you!
i would like to be a mental health specialist (68x) but i would be enlisting as an officer. What is the officer equivalent of this position? or is it the same thing?
@NaturallySoJazzy - Officer equivalent is Psychiatrist, Psychologist, or Social Worker. Problem with that is you need a lot more than a Bachelors degree to be a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, or Social Worker. Gotta keep that in mind.

Everyone in the Army goes to the range. It is mandatory to qualify on your assigned weapon (M-16/M-4) at the very least once a year. Ranges happen all the time. Just ask to go.
thank god someone has a video of htis... the recruiter i was with had no video of this.. but this is an old video right? could it be the same with the mental health specialist of 09?

Sometimes it has to happen. Not a glorious thing though having to restrain a grown adult because they are trying to harm themselves, or someone else.
