I don't play the recorder, but I think they're hard to play. You have to blow hard enough to actually change the notes, but soft enough to not get just a high-pitched screech. That's why it sounds out-of-tune to many of you.

the whistle actually isn't out'a tune, but any kind of highpitched note played on almost any instrument is going to sound bad. and take it from someone who knows, a ton of instruments, no matter how in tune they are, sound a little off when played with a harp...
