First of all, Puerto Rico, IS a country and American territory. Second, just for the record, here's an approximation of the distribution of the population's ethnicity:
-48% are white
-48% are ''mestizos'' (half-white, half-black, like an in-between, or darker skin)
-4% are black
The reason? We are a result of the cross of Spaniards, Native Puerto Ricans (taino indians) and Africans.

With ''mestizo'' I meant the different levels of a darker skin color but yet they're still not considered either black or white. And by using the dictionary, mestizo is defined as it follows:

There are subgroups within the White race, such as Nordic, Alpine, Mediterranean, Dinaric, etc. Fair skin does not equal White race. Olive skin is the other skin color and Europeans' skin range from fair to olive with everything in between. Southern Europeans are tanned more because it's hotter in Southern Europe. Mediterraneans are White race.

Besides having Spanish descendents they are more Europeans that settled in Puerto Rico when we were under the Spanish crown. When Spain allowed the Dutch, French and Italians to import products after contraband went out if control many Europeans immigrated to Puerto Rico. it's in the history books so please don't let any ignorant comments get to you. We know who we are and the idiots that say things like "Puerto Ricans are short, dark and fat" don't even know who there descendents are.
