  • Stop whining. Everybody in America has equal opportunity.

  • ..should be illegal thats so ridiculous

  • nice stupid school, that's fuckin racist.. ur hair color owns bruv

  • Hello, I was wondering what became of this? What they asked you/your son to do was wrong. I hope you took them to court and won... although alot of the judges are twisted and crooked :-/

  • I'm surprised they didn't make you cut it.

  • everyone has the right to have there hair what ever color they want!!!! people talk smack to me cuz im white with dreads and i have alot of piercings/tatts, and crazy hair color. i stand up for my rights to look how i want to. and you should too!

  • his hair does not look unnatural.....why would they have to be black? what if you have a sandy brown color? you cant do anything about it. dumb school.

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS?????!!!!!!!! the school was totally wrong!!!! why does it matter if his hair is dyed or not?? what was the basis of them asking you to color your son's hair black? was it a distraction? did it cause anyone else any kind of harm? i think not!! they would definitely hear from my lawyer!!!!!

  • Lol this is why I avoid white people and only deal with them when I have to

  • I would get a lawyer I'm Jamaican and belizean and black. My hair is from red to brown to black and I would be damned if it wasn't natural. Caucasian kids dye their hair blonde, red, pink, blue, etc. No one says ANYTHING! I'M HEATED

  • are they serious?!!! look at the color of his hair. that is NOT inappropriate or distracting. thats a natural hair color even if its not his. theyre making a stank like his hair is blue and green or something. you should fight back! this is wrong! im mad just thinking about it!!!

  • @PrincessKonstantina ur a dumb ass dreadlocks are not dirty they actuall help hair grow. The only nasty locks i have ever seen are on people that don't bathe at all. I am white and I have locks and I wash mine often and they smell just fine there is nothing wrong with them. You are shallow and narrow minded and need to get out more. Get off of the computer and get a real life with real people. Stupid people like u piss me off to no end!

  • I'll be damned if I let a school tell me how I can have MY childs hair. There is no threat in his hair color....

  • That is bull shit!!!! His hair is fine just the way it is and the school is stupid for telling u that. The girls can walk in there with pink and purple hair but he can't have a different tint to his hair? That pissed me off. It shouldn't make a difference if his hair was all blonde. If that is the case they need to tell the females that go to that school they can't have different color hair also.

  • this is idiot im a 16jear old jamaican i heave dreads 2 and the are the same color like your sons hair people on my school love it but that is why im so happy that im not living in america what kind of stuff where you jousing for his awesome rasta dreads btw?????

  • nwo is here

  • i feel you..... thiss world gone mad...well always has been with ppl that seem to be calling shots,i would go prison take son outta school if was feesable to do so.....back to nature.........im surprised they didnt ask to spray your son 'white' as he is not a 'natural ' colour or more to the point because he is a certain colour....racism protected by the state.... people wake up

  • Very glad that you refused to speak without your attorney present. Stick to your guns.

  • i agree its racial discrimination. rise above them in your own minds. peace

  • Man fuck dem

  • thats such bull.

    they'd hate me lol.

at least his is a natural color, mine's been neone blue.

that school's workers need to get over themselves >.>

  • my dads dreads go a different color in the light

  • @chelsea4lif mine too LOL

  • dont change stick to ur guns and dont give in to it

  • what u expect thats the south for you l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l bunch of racist mofo down there :p

  • Dreadlocks??? I wouldn't even let that kid in the school apart from his colour.

How often does he wash his head? Why do other kids must get close to him and his dirty head?

  • @PrincessKonstantina.. Dreadlocks doesnt equal dirty. Smarten up. Your ignorance is showing

  • @ayyoitsmeagain It does... you obviously wash them once a month so as to keep them like that.

    Your denial is showing.

  • @PrincessKonstantina You obviously know nothing about locks. I wash my hair every day if not every other day. Some people wash them once a week. If you get them latched, you can wash them from day one and when they're fully locked, you can wash them whenever you want. Maybe you should do some research before you judge someone on something you don't know anything about

  • @ayyoitsmeagain nicely said

  • thats f****ing messed up

  • i would not do thaat. nope.

  • is that just spray paint?

  • wtf lol is that spray paint?

  • LoL what does this have to do with the south, this is a special district issue. Also how is this discrimination, policy is policy.

  • @SPYK3O I think the policy stated no UN-NATURAL color is allowed. NOT that he can't dye his hair.

I have personally seen NATURAL hair come in many shades, from black to red (including copper tones) to gray, even blonde or brassy (as seen in albino and aborigine people).

Blue, Pink or Purple should have got him suspended, but Copper tones???

This is an attack on the fact that he is black, has locs or that is male with that particular color hair. Either way it's DISCRIMINATION!

  • im pretty sure there are some Caucasian females and males in his school with unnatural highlights in there hair but its fine with them i believe it has become an issue of race cause there was a similar incident with children wearing nose rings in my area where an African-American girl was forced to remove her new nose ring but there were three other girls in the school that had nose rings prior to the issue. I have you in my prayers and hope the case goes your way

  • i dont know one person who has had locs for any number of years whose tips have not naturally lightened in the sun..and i am not talkin about people who actually color thier hair, i am talking about people who put nothing in thier hair but shampoo and conditioner..it happens..our hair lightens in the sun like everyone else..and its not like his hair was a color that COULD NEVER grow from anyone's head..its just blonde. whats the big deal?

  • very sick!!! dey stupid individuals 4 sho...take care n feel free 1luv

  • No one should have the right to control what colour you decide something on your body should be... sure i can understand dress standards etc... but your own body is yours and shouldn't be changed because of a school... the hair colour wont make him learn any better, or be any better behaved its pathetic. Btw, your son has brilliant dreads!

  • im sorry this is ridiculous!! the sun naturally fades hair!! i have brown hair but it also has some gold and blonde in it from the sun!! NO ONE should EVER make you change the color of your hair for anything unless it is your choice to change it!! i feel for you and im sure you were very angry at this school!

  • I'm just seeing this and it is wrong and you should sue the school district, principle and the teacher. I would call every female and male teacher with color that's not their natural tone as witnesses. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

  • AINT NO WAY!!!!! man, mama fuXX that school.... that aint right, but my biggest question... what type of spay did u use??????? And mama... GET THAT MONEY!!!

  • @youngswaggg get that money for sho

  • what the fuck..........K im confused here they didnt think his hair was natural so they send you to a store to buy hair spray to change its color...but doesnt that defeat the purpose of them wanting it to be natural? I hope that spray u used doesnt cause any chemical damage to those majestic locs. Its a shame a principal can act like this..ive lost all hope for the education system and the government when they make fools of themselves like this

  • what kind of spray is that???i want to use it on my hair..i hope u win the case mama!

  • they can go fuck themselves... they dont give a shit about childrens education...do this with a white boy huh??....sry for the language but common....

  • it is rediculous! u know many white people color or highlght their hair....? Someone needs to check the priniciple about this because it is unreal that this would be an issue at all considering dredlocks often change color naturally due to the locking process anyway. I am a Cherokee, and have dreds myself and think this is the most ignorant thing ive heard in a while

  • NOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Thats wak, fight it!!! What are you using to colour his hair?? Spray paint?? That can't be good for the dreads. Awesome dread by the way!

  • This happened to me from 93-94.

    It sucks and is bullshit.

  • thats messed up! thats ridiculous! thats discrimation!

  • Get up stand up and Fight. That is an infringement of your constitutional rights. See a lawyer and keep up the good fight. onelove.

  • are you freakin kidding me? that kids hair looks completely natural to me. my kids have had their hair all kinds of colors and if the school here called me out on it i would fight it. that is rediculous.... how did you keep from going slick off on them?

  • this is terrible!

  • What Ido understand is if it was such a big issue for the school why not say anything when you first dye his hair and not three whole years later. See I question the principle for his or her motives for doing something so late and then not sending a note home first. How many other children had their heads dyed too and nothing was said to them.

  • That's crazy my hair was pitch black when I was a baby with a full head of hair, but when I got older my hair turned to a red, brown, orange, gold, color all over in several areas and people could tell it was natural highlights. My daughter is the same way, but my son is a complete redhead and I would have to kill someone for starting to think about saying something. It's such a big deal that his father kept cutting it out of jealousy and I won't let him see my son anymore.

  • even the news reporter said that his hair was the same color as hers, and that her hair was NOT dyed.

regardless, what the heck does the color have to do with Math, English, etc. Oh, I am not finished!!!!

And what am I to do when we go to the beach and his hair naturally changes to the blond color it does? ya know!

  • @nsomkneea he got nice locks, r they mature?

  • wow..that didn't even look like it was that different from his natural hair colour....if that happened in my school, it would be totally dead..no one would go

  • ok this shit is stupid ppl shouldnt have to be told HOW to dress and what color your hair can be i dont give a damn if its "school policy" its unconstitutional it takes away from our freedom and i doubt its a manner of racism i think its more like...pompous asses wanting to abuse their power of authority and i cant stand ppl that abuse their power its ridiculous and needs to be taken care of this is supposed to be a "free country" what a load of bullshit

  • i know this video was a while ago ... what ended up happening with this issue? is it still a problem or has it been solved? that is just ridiculous ...

  • The lawsuit is still pending. We need your prayers.

  • @nsomkneea Wow i am DEFINITLEY oraying that is so dumb! I have NEVER heard of anything like that before and im honestly so sad and ashamed you all had to deal with that kind of crap! I mean come one its not natural?!?!?! His hair was BEAUTIFUL they were just jealous a black young man (with irish too) who wore his dreads respectfully yeah they were itchin for an argument

  • @nsomkneea God is a superstition, stupid.

  • hmm, pure ignorance.

  • @wandavzlapalmundo fuck ur comment i have dreadlocks and they dont stink compared to ur fucked up mess BITCH

  • I would of kept my hair wuteva color..F the schools they cant teach for shit..homeschool is bettr

  • thats crazy i woulda left the school

  • And we did. I moved him to another state to be in a more diverse community.

I do not rear my children to tolerate such behavior.

  • @nsomkneea Move to the north. The south is full of confederate faggots who feel that the south hasn't been humiliated enough.

  • i'm so angry about this... it makes no sense at all!!!

  • my school made me cut mine and my mom was very mad

  • What!!!!!!!!

They can't MAKE you do that!!!!!

Well did your mom push her dispute!

  • she did then she got tired of them and just cut it

  • thats a damn shame...they look so good

  • go to the police or somthing the principal is an racist. why can he not have an other hair color when the other studens can? i bet that other white studens colors there hair black or somthing like that and thats not natural for a white to have black hair

  • this is depressing his locs are beautiful. i don't see how this is any different from kids at school putting highlights in their hair. You are right this just got racial. If you are looking for any support on this me and a whole bunch of other youtubers would be glad to give it i'm sure, at least judging by the comments below

    ~Peace, Love and Nappiness

  • you dont have to take that crap. sue the life outta them

  • fuck em all . hatin .

  • sick fuckin dreads\

  • NOOOO you shouldnt have sprayed it, argue your case otherwise theyll just keep doing it to people.. its only hair god their so fussy.

  • This IS WRONG! I am a Caucasian white chick, and this is damn wrong! You should have taken this straight to the news; but maybe you felt they wouldn't listen? I am in canada, and at least in my city this would have had protests and the principal would have either been fired or something else! MAN! This kind of crap should not be tolerated or allowed!

  • Why not home school and take your son out that wicked system!!!

  • omg this is so sad its just a hair people dont come to school for fasion they come to learn

  • What the hell? I don't get it....what does the highlights in his hair have anything at all to do with him going to school, why would they suspend him for such a stupid thing?

  • that is messed up,his hair is fine just the way it was without being sprayed,i saw no problem before,i also understand this,i have been told by teachers that i should cut my dreads cuz i am a white person, but i 'm not going to,i like em. and yes that has gone from hair to race issue, don't let them crush your pride or your son's.

  • I would have listened to the principle, THEN called an attorney. You gotta fight for your right lady. I would have sued the school, before doing that, because that is discrimination!!! Get up! Stand up! Stand up for your Rights!

  • Thanks BohemianBirth.

Believe me, it isn't over until my last breath. And even then, I hope he fights for his rights.

  • What an idiots. Im happy its not like this in the Netherlands. His hair is beautiful. Your right mom, dont change it!

  • what the heck? in georgia there is a school in clayton county called BAB that has similar rules. i remember a case where an albino with white hair got sent home because of it. they need to have sense in hair rules. and since when is dark brown and dark blonde highlights unnatural? you should have taken further action!

  • seriously everytime i watch this it brings tears to my eyes.....it's really f up

  • if this is true, then f*ck the school! is this not against the law?

  • what is that shit? not natural color? haha. who cares?! he can do whatever he wants to his head.

you shouldnt have changed the color! protest against that fascism shit teachers.

  • i can believe there is still this much hate. I'm from arizona, i have dreads, and im latin american. I have one bleached dread and noone has done a thing i'm sure its that school.

  • I don't believe it is a race issue. I've heard of students all over the country being sent home for what the school deems "distractive" hair. Maybe it is different in the south though and I could be wrong. What is freedom if we can't be free to express our individual style? Your son's hair is so nice and you can tell he worked hard to obtain that look. Its a shame the school thinks it hinders his and others ability to learn. I hope everything works out for you both.

  • It's not the "color" they want. Next they're going to say cut his dreads off. Sorry you and your son have to go through this.

    Be Blessed!

  • You have to protest against this type of crap. If they sent me out because I had my hair dyed, I would dye each one of my dreads- (I have dreads too hahaha) I would dye each one of my dreads a different color, and walk in the next day with rainbow dreads =P I can't understand this (unless it's some kind of a private school) You could easily sue that guy for being racist. (And I AM white, But I don't like the southern racists", and I don't know why they like to remember a war that they lost.

  • Lima,

    LOL, ok?

He would be screwed here in this school district. I really do not believe the school has realized what can of worms they have opened. I appreciate your comments.

    Thanks for the support!

  • also i dont think its appropiate to sit there and say the white kids dont have to stop going to a salon, that makes it sound like its being racist, that statement, you should just say the other races of kids that go to a salon, even if you didnt mean to, it still kinda sounds racist to say that, and i have nothing against any race im white and my boyfriend is black so

  • Xeverex....

    I never said white kids.

What I said was that the staff, teachers, and other students should not be able to have highlights (salon or bottle) if my son could not. I meant that for all of the races. Believe me I am far from racist. My grandmother was White, my son's grandfather is White, and actually from Ireland, my son's grandmother is from Jamaica, my cousins are bi-racial, and some of my exes have been Whit etc. etc. etc.

  • and thas wonderful but heres what you said as part of your description Help me out here! Isn't the base word of natural nature? In nature there are many colors, e.g. pink, red, blue, etc. Now it is becoming a harassing issue. No other students have been targeted (to my knowledge). My son is an Irish Jamaican/Black and the principal is White. The White students are not being told to stop going to the salon getting their hair dyed, so why should my son stop?

    you did say white students

  • The school can't force you to change his color. You should take this to your lawyer. You have a lawsuit for discrimination.

  • i dont think its just the south tho, it could be just that principal! but dont worry parents are winning fights like this more and more of how the school system is trying to dictate how people should live there lives, i saw nothing offensive nor obscene about it

  • Xeverx....

You are right, it isn't just the south. But South Carolina is still behind other states regarding diversity. And the carolinians proud themselves being in the Bible Belt (generally speaking).

I have lived in Chicago, Atlanta, Indiana, and have never experienced as much racism and discrimination as here in S.C.

  • but really it could be just the community that you live in, i have LOTS of ELDERLY friends that i've met from sc that i visit often and i have piercings and "outrageous" hair, and they are "bible belt" and my bf who is black sees them too and we both dont get descriminated on, so maybe its just the community that you live in, i hope that you see not all southern states are like that though, so please dont let one bad expierence affect your descision on the rest

  • you shouldnt have sprayed painted his hair tho i liked it, im a white girl an i dye my hair all the time, i've had my hair white and pink white and black purple you name it, i dont think its fair that he shouldnt have been allowed to go to school i saw NOTHING wrong with his hair at all, it was cute!!!! but you might want to check the school dress code just to insure you have a better fight also it helps to get other students to sign something like there was nothing wrong with his hair good luck

  • Xeverx,,,,

If I didn't spray his hair, the school was going to keep in out indefinitely. I could not risk my son losing out on an education because of the ignorance of others.

And as far as your suggestion regarding other students, I am going to attempt to try something like that, or to at least fight to have the "code" is changed.

    I see an attorney Monday.

  • he has such pretty hair its sad to see it spray painted and damaged like that though when there was an alternative to go to a beauty store and pick up a simple dye that works just as well like manic panic a non bleach or amonia product that works as a stain and doesnt fade and is as expensive as the spray paint

  • don't worry i support you. i am in 9th grade, but i was forced to quit school when i was in 7th because i chose to be different from all the other preps at my school. the teachers and the students all chose to judge me by my apperance not caring what effect it would have on my schooling or education. so i know how you feel....

  • Blackblood...

Wow! Thank you. I apologize for other's ignorance. It is sad when people do not conform to what "society" deems appropriate, they are considered aliens. Well, I tell you what. I am an "alien", and if you are one too, be the proudest one on Earth!

  • Don't worry. Obama will save you.

  • Wilddog,

    LOL!!!

I wish it WERE that easy.

  • if it's his natural hair color, then why spray paint it? just leave it like it is.

  • Sonic,

His natural hair color changes. It depends on the amount of sun exposure or chlorine from swimming. However, my son chooses to highlight his hair, and the color the school did not like were highlights.

The ironic thing is the school has contridicted themselves. See, when I was forced to spray his hair Black, that was not my son's natural color. My son's natural color would be a mixture of brown, blonde, and dark brown.

  • um.. spray paint tho.. wont that damage his hair?

thats pretty messed up tho. awful that he has to go through all of that. i am sure if a white girl bleached her hair blonde no one would complain.. and it would not be natural. i see what the are saying tho, but they need to enforce it throughout the school.. cant just target on person.

  • Dania,

It wasn't actual spray paint, but temporary hair color spray. OMG! I would never spray paint his hair, not even to appease the school.

And you have made an excellent point, and one the same point that I will be mentioning to the attorney on Monday.

    Wish us luck!

  • This is ridiculous I can not believe they made him do that type of thing... I am a white 18 yr old and when I had dreads in 10th grade I was discriminated and one teacher told me to wash my hair and yet I was the one who got in trouble because I said something back (can't remember what it was but it wasn't nice because I am gonna get defensive) I should have sued them but what can I do now? I fully support you and your son especially.

  • OhSnapNikka,

It is VERY ridiculous. It is nice hearing from a young person, and someone who can feel our pain. I hurt for my son, but in the same sense, he gets to see how discrimination still exists...especially in the south.

    Thank you for you response.

  • It's really messed up what your son is going through, but his locks are GORGEOUS!

  • Thanks Artsy.

It is messed up. So much that we are seeing an attorney on Monday.

  • it's a sad world barf

  • Isn't it?

    When individuality is frowned upon,

    When hair comes before education,

    When will it stop?

  • That is so unfair. I'm white, but I cant beleive anyone would do that! If I saw him, I would rat him out so bad, he wouldn't know what hit him. (I'm a genius at talking back) Hope he gets put in his place someday.

  • lol...

Thank you. I really do appreciate the response. Wish us luck. We see an attorney on Monday.

  • Thank you all for supporting us. You will not be forgotten through this fight.

  • That's ridiculus. He's not in the military so they can't make him do that!!! I would fight this I wanna see this on CNN!!! Close that school down, it's a bunch of discrimination. Hopefully that washes out!

  • why did they tell you to do that? i don't see anything wrong with his hair! please, do something about this. they shouldn't be able to disciminate against him

  • Well, nothing was said when his Dreadlocks were blond. So it makes me truly wonder. Wonder to the point of having an appointment to retain a discrimination attorney. But we want the nation to know how the South still is. Anything that you can do to get this through the airwaves would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for viewing it and being concern. Bless you.

  • Call National Action Network

  • that is insane...how can the school tell me what to do with my own body?

  • Wow! You said exactly what I did. And thank you for the compliment. I have an appointment with a discrimination attorney, but am worried about his ties with the community. We are not giving up though. Until my last breath, justice will be served for my son and all others who go through this type of discrimination. Thank you again for your response. I truly appreciate it.

  • OMG!! His hair didn't look unnatural in color to me. That's INSANE!!! Do they think black is the only color black people's hair can be? Do they target those girls and boys who get highlights in their hair??

Your son's hair is GORGEOUS. I wouldn't blame you for FIGHTING this...total injustice.

  • thats ashame smh, i agree with the other two posters.

  • Thank you so much for commenting. Anything that you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. We are not stopping until justice is truly served.

    Thanks again.

  • That is pure insanity. You need to contact a lawyer to protect your son and your civil liberties...Is this rule they have applicable to women or just black men????

  • Thank you for the advise. Normally I am up on all of the agencies to contact, but my vision has been so clouded that I could only think of contacting a discrimination attorney.

And to answer your question....well, when his Dread were blond, nothing was said. But now that they are auburn, there is this absurd behavior from the school. And as far as I am aware, no females have had this problem. I appreciate you stopping by and taking the time out to view this.

  • I would have contacted a lawyer!! I live in California and at my daughters school those girls have all kinds of colorful braids in their hair.

  • Jazzy, I have an appointment on January 26th to meet with a discrimination attorney. However the southern community is so close here, I am afraid that I will not get appropriate representation. Wish my son and I luck. I am not giving up...not until justice is served. Thank you very much for stopping by. And anything you can do to get this out through the airwaves would be appreciated.

    Thank you again!
