  • @david00kirk you should have waited two more years to make this comment >:D

  • Could anyone point me in the right direction to some good oldies?

    I'm young and the 50's is my favorite kind of music but its pre my moms time.

    I know Barry White isn't 50's but I also like him, as do I like perry como..

    Any recommendations?

  • @Osamuxx There are tons of recordings from the fifties on youtube. The biggest male pop "standard" stars of the era (not counting Bing Crosby who had been popular since the early 30's) were Como, Sinatra, Frankie Laine, Nat "King" Cole, Guy Mitchell, Dean Martin, Eddie Fisher, Tony Bennett, and (by the end of the decade) Andy Williams. The rock-and-rollers who came into vogue in the mid 50's led by Elvis are another category and not one that I know too well.

  • @Osamuxx PS: If you like Barry White then check-out some of the rich voiced Black singers of the fifties and sixties such as Billy Eckstine, Roy Hamilton, Al Hibbler, Tommy James, Brook Benton, and Arthur Prysock among others.

  • @Osamuxx Go to Loudcity.com and some of the 50s 60s 70s wduv.com. I was looking at my classmate and saw a picture of "The Cordials" and there it takes you to others singers. I just love it.

  • Sweet!

    I found this song in the 1953 chart @ billboardvideos.(net)

  • Perry was my mother's favorite singer.

  • I remember this song as one of our early first record collections on 78 rpm discs..

  • I sure remember this one by Perry and several others. Classic pop. Thanks.

    Marcus

  • Actually this recording was released in 1952 by RCA Victor, This is one of the greatest recordings of the 1950s and all the stars to Perry...Memories

    Mike........

  • This is Dean Martin's song not Perry Como's.

  • @dattakanitkar1 This is indeed Perry Como's. I think you're talking about "The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane" by Dean Martin. Both songs have the same 'pa-pa-papaya' intro.

  • Back in the 40s and 50s we had what was known as "crooners". There was Bing Crosby , Frank Sinatra and Perry Como plus several more. Most people in my neck of the woods had one of these as their pick as a favorite. I must admit, I cannot choose a favorite of these 3 and several others. Thanks for sharing with us.

    Marcus

  • Pa-pa-pa-paya! :) :)

  • Just imagine that it's Perry Como with Male Chorus of the U.S. Marine Corps., performing "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes". Nicely done, Perry....Marines!!

  • This reminds me of my years when I was young. I feel young every time I hear this song!

  • Pretty nostalgic - great song to listen to at night at a low volume when everyone is asleep- I really appreciate your uploading it. Clicked "like" registering a whooping 220 points.

  • OOoooohhh hear those trumpets!!!

  • love it

  • Brings back memories of The Perry Como Show on TV in the 50s or 60s.They were great shows.Pity there are no shows like them now.

  • A hit form my youthful days. great to listen to it again.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • reminds me of my good old days when I was 10 or so.

  • Pa-pa-papaya! Love it!

  • my dad's all time favorite song ...

  • Nicely composed and sung. Adaptation in Bollywood by O.P. Nayyar, The Masestro, with his own variations is equally superb and fits the Indian Mood.

  • @raviankita1 Hi there - do you have a link to the adapted song you're talking about? It sounds really cool! Thanks!

  • Looking for a Clip of Mr Como and the Buffalo Bills Quartet, any ideas?

  • Ne laissez pas s'enfuir l'amour (il ne vient pas tous lesjours) 1953 par Tino Rossi.

  • I grew up listening to Perry Como in the 90's because of my father. Waiting for my him to come home from work, I'd dance in the living room to his CD non-stop, then start all over from the beginning. :) Great memories... I'll cherish them forever.

  • Treasured and cherished

  • Thanks for sharing this one. Same as nealnash, this was my favorite song when I was a boy in 50s (a Chinese boy not knowing any English). Now I finally get to know what he (Parry Como) was singing about. Thanks again.

  • @sessnazx - some IDIOT flagged you as spam, good GRIEF! Thanks for sending me this, but shame on you for holding out on me for 2 months, hehehe!

    Recorded Nov, 1952 & added to my playlist for that year. I'm up to nearly 4000 songs on my 111 playlists from 1900-2010! Thanks for Newhart/Martin, too!

  • @sessnazx oh, thanks for posting it, a very good one from Perry como..

  • This song always reminds me of the day when my then girlfriend, dumped me on the day I joined the army in 1953 at the tender age of 18.

  • this song was number 1 the day i was born in 1953 it was written by slim willet in 1952 and its still a great song sung by a great singer

  • I heard this on Leros about 8 years ago; sung in Greek by a mandolin/guitar/bouzouki trio. Wasthe tune originally a Greek one?

  • I remember when my grandparents brought me this song in 1952, the 78rpm on RCA Victor. I was 3 years old and already could sing it all the way through. It is without question my favorite Perry Como song. Spin it all the time. Wish all these great 50s singers were still singing these classics. This was real music, truly the very best!!!

  • All music with heart and passion is real music. I'm not a huge fan of hip hop, yet there is a few bands that have true passion and heart. Writing lyrics about bling, big ass's, getting rich and getting laid isn't music with true heart. Even certain hardcore heavy metal bands have heart and passion. The is a great song, yet Como doesn't write his own lyrics so i can't consider him a musician just a great performer. As far as i know this is true if i am wrong then please correct me.

  • @nomeatsteak you may be right, but now we have had a

    "do it yourself" kind of music, with so many rock stars

    writing their own tunes. The pop world seems to place a

    high value on singers writing their own stuff, even if it is

    terrible. When Como was at his peak all the singers

    used songs generally written by real professionals and

    had musical backup at the same high professional level

    so it's no wonder we are still hearing THEM today, and not

    the disposible stuff we've had lately .

  • @dancebandleader Actually this was a cover version of Slim Willett's 'do it yourself' country song, which was considered pretty disposable at the time by music critics. Como hated most of the songs RCA made him record.

  • @colujomes

    Your probably right about his dislike of some of the songs he recorded, especially the novelties. He did not like "Don't like the stars......" as I read, because of the many key changes. He was a crooner who liked ballards or love songs "Solo Tu", "No Other Love",

    "It's Impossible" and so on. He was confused about the publics call for the novelty, but music changed in the 50's and I guess he had to stay in business. He was always my favorite of the crooners.

  • @nomeatsteak

    If playing guitar makes him a musician then he's a musician.

    Most musicians can't write songs, lyrics or melody, that's an art unto itself and we don't call those people musicians, we call them composers. Perry Como was a performer and a musician.

  • I'm falling in love with this song. I sing a line of this song in a play I'm in. I adore this song.

  • ...and thinking I was born 30 years after! I wish nowadays music would be this sweet.

  • Sorry about your good friend, Ben. I too lost a best friend just before Christmas, she was a 14 year old Sheltie from the rescue society. We only had three years together. I just found a 10 year old Collie that needed a home, she is now my new love.

    Warmly,

    Mike

  • It's a very good song.. I wrote it...

  • @Kevinasp Thank you for writing a wonderful song for a wonderful artists.

  • When you have got such a wonderful talent like I have, you feel you need to share it with the world. I have wrote all the Elvis songs, all the Beatles songs, all the Who songs, all the Queen songs, all the Abba songs, all the Madness songs, the Dark side of the moon album, The Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad albums, all the stereophonics songs. The problem was that I couldn't get an agent.. so I didn't make any money. Now I can't afford a solicitor to sue the rock stars for the Royalties.

  • really now? i have a hard time believing that

  • So you're saying that you wrote alot of these songs even before you were born? I think your head doctor needs to amp up your pill dosage my friend.

  • That was in my last life high-flier....

  • You're bat shit crazy my friend, but I like your response so I won't bother arguing.

  • I built a sledge when I was 3 years old, wrote the Lords prayer when I was 4.

  • This is the song that was out on the day I was born! lol

  • My favorite Perry Como song, a real classic. His singing is always effortless; what a natural!

  • Perry voor het eerst gehoord 1 februari

    1953 op kustvaarder ms Maystar in

  • tyty meehall, lol fun...

    ~~~~ Becky
  • This song is a classic recorded by many artists, including the song's writer, Slim Willet of Abilene, TX.
  • I am glad to realize that so many people love Perry Como. Though he sold quite well in every recording he made, I wonder which song sold most. Is that "Papa Loves Mambo"?
  • I think it's "till the end of time". That's sort of his signature song, so I've read.
  • To Operalover12002: According to the U.S. national charts, his biggest was "If", followed by "Wanted" and then ""Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes".
  • Bio on Como came out recently by McFarlane and Crossland
  • but a damn good song, i hope shes still there for me in 2-3 years for me to take back
  • Perry Como is and always will be..AWSOME!
  • I second that. 2012-The centennial of the birth of Pierino Rolando Como.
  • Oh Boy, Perry its so nice to hear that lovely voice of yours. I have always tried to imitate your voice, but nothing as sweeter than yours. God be with you. Love all your songs. From All our family here in the beautiful, sunny land of Auckland New Zealand. Kia Ora.
  • I don't see why some people think this song has a Mexican or mariachi rhytm. The opposite is true: mariachi music is very rigid, and this song has many stanzas off-beat.
  • timeless classic indeed!!! I am 14 and adore Perry Como songs!
    my dad loves them too! thanx for posting!!!
  • haw!
  • Love this song!
  • i LOVE this song and Perry Como!
  • Once I have heard that Perry Como used to be a barber before he became a singer. Is that true?
  • Yep. He retained his barber's license all his life, he enjoyed cutting hair for close friends.
  • Thanks for your information. This song sounds very jolly. And I miss a great singer like he was.
  • He was from Canonsburg PA and there is a statue of him in the town you have to see it !
    Jack Putnak
    Charleroi , PA
    he is my favorite and so is these videos
