For some reason I always thought Toronto Rocks made its debut before 1984. Every source I come across says it debuted in '84. And I thought TR was a 1 hour show. Can somebody confirm to me if TR debuted before '84 or is my memory becoming more fuzzy and when did they extend the show another half hour. I thought I knew for sure that the show started at 4:00 for 1 hour but I don't know now. I remember Toronto Rocks from 4-5 and Video Hits on CBC from 5-530
@Etobeeshawn It was only a 1/2 hour show. I remember rushing home from school to watch Thriller (1984) debut, and they could only play 2 other videos because Thriller was so long.
John Majhor was the bomb and Toronto Rocks was an amazing show. That studio they shot that in was like having a camera in my closet. :)
Toronto Rocks and CityLimits were 80% of my teen years. (I still have my Toronto sweatshirt from when they did giveaways at the live Toronto Rocks shows at the CNE...we saw Bowie...)
John Majhor hosted toronto rocks as well as his radio show on CHUM 1050.He was a true talent in the industry and a true friend to those who knew him I was lucky enough to be one of those peaple. God bless you John and thanks.
Oh shit I used to run home from school to see if they were going to play Hot For Teacher by Van Halen! What a great set they had just a little tiny booth.
Holy crap are we getting old. I loved that show. What was the one with the security guard? Chuck? I think it was on channel 47. The multilingual channel.
To 'thinbutfun', UHF? You are indeed in my age group. What say we ditch the pooters and swap 8 tracks over our CBs. If only City TV would bring back the 20 minute workout!!!
I remember Toronto Rocks! I'd come home from school and watch it at 4pm. Initially, it was a 1/2 show later extended to a full hour. My favourite was "mid-week Metal Mania!" LOL!
Citytv was initially Channel 79 and changed to 57 in 1983.
Brad Giffen took over a few years later (whose now that grey haired fella on CTV News Net). There was a 3rd host when they went off the air in 1988. I can't remember who. I'm tempted to say George Longanganis but I'm probably wrong on that.
I was 13 years old when this was aired on Channel 77 (or was it 79) City tv when they were situated on Queen street east. Anyways these were the days in Toronto with the gold red copper streetcars, red subway cars with yellow lights, the rio theatre at gerrard and yonge (24 hour movies) and the cineplex at the Eaton centre with 42 movies..gosh I miss the 80s,
jd did both--he was already an entertainment reporter for "citypulse" when he became one of the first VJs of muchmusic...then he got promoted to anchor for the late night "citypulse" a couple of years later...
RIP John and Aldo.......

@Fibr3Optix He did, but only as fill-in. He also hosted NewMusic and the first MuchMusic shows.

Yes, I indicated that in the tags

I think that JD Roberts was a MuchMusic VJ. Or co-anchor for Teralyn Joe on City pulse or both...
