I would want to get AWAY FROM Harvey, too, because I don't like being shoved.
Actually, the closest thing to this scenario is when I'm walking down the street and a blind man walks toward me with a cane. The right thing to do is get AWAY FROM him so that he doesn't walk into me, being unable to see me.
This is one skit they absolutely can't air anymore, seeing Herry strangle the poor man, I mean, come on. Lulu Monster was much more friendlier to him.
Harvey Kneeslapper helps the green man out by teaching him about the concept of "Away From". Even though Harvey teaches the green man how to avoid monsters and crowds, the green man then tells Harvey that he will stay away from him instead of thanking him for his advice. That is the thanks Harvey gets for doing someone a mitzvah. :|
They wouldn't put this on the show (not even a remade version) because the new writers are a bunch of pussies, and talk down to kids like they are neanderthals. You can see the difference if you tuned into any Sesame Street episode today. It's kind of like what Mad magazine became after the "new wave" of writers hit-complete crap.
Because I do need read Mad magazime, I cannont comment on that portion of what you wrote, but I agree with you whole-heartedly about how far downhill "Sesame Street" has gone over the years! Very sad indeed!
And "Sesame Street" isn't the only thing that's gone seriously downhill over the years. Think of the new, stupid-looking cartoons that are on the "Cartoon Network". Geez!!!!
Someone said the "Gimme 5" Harvey Kneeslapper clip was his final segment on Sesame Street, but I could tell from the 3-part snow scetch that it was his next to last appearance, and the "What 4?" street scene was indeed his last scetch, both of which had Frank Oz laughing at a higher pitch than I've ever heard since. In "Away From", he's more a straight man than a practical joker, which shows you what might've been changed, had Frank kept Harvey Kneeslapper as a salesman.
That green guy is the same guy from, "Lulu's Back in Town." He could also get the big and strong Lulu to protect him from monsters and trampling people.
I remember this somewhat. The part with the monster and the crowd just came back to me, but I remember the flashing 'AWAY FROM' sign and the last line - 'I'm going to get away from you, too' - more distinctly. Moreover, nothing can take me AWAY FROM great memories like this! Thanks, Jonny!
You're right JonnyT. I've never seen this one before; quite possibly Harvey's debut. He seemed like a helpful yet weird kind of fellow. I suspect that other folks, like that anything muppet, felt more comfortable being "away from" H.K., and that's why he became more rebellious.
"superAJ71, must you ALWAYS read way too much into things?!"
Harry monster's expression when he wasn't able to attack the dude will forever make me laugh. Especially the eyebrows going up.

"Do crowds of people trample you under foot?"
That predates a Led Zeppelin song by four years...

Well I guess that Kenny Rogers said it best in his song "Let's Go Out". This song featured the verse "All Good Things Must End". Sad but true!

That fanfare before the words must've scared the heck out of some kids. "I think I'm gonna get AWAY FROM you too" was priceless though...four stars!

Not exactly the kind of stuff they would put on the show today considering those physical gags that they used.

Even though Harvey wasn't a prankster yet, I notice he still has his typical laugh.
Makes me wonder why his character changed; I'm guessing he probably wasn't really that funny in this sketch, so they decided to spice him up a bit?

Also, I would like to ask, does anyone know what Harvey says on the glitch part?

I know the first part is "Hi."
