He worked on it for the cover design. He used to be a staff artist before he was called to create games, and that's where He became an excellent programmer and director.

It was considered a failure back in the 1980's in the US because it was too hard to clear a level, but Japan liked it because they love to be challenged. In the Us, they do not know the true meaning of video games. Today, this has given us an opportunity to play this once-rejected game.
Take GTA for example, It has hit the US in the late 1990's because most care about violence than the quality.
As for brawl, some say it stinks because it's just not competitive enough.
No. Donkey Kond has Radar Scope sounds. That's because Miyamoto had to "redesign" Radar Scope (he did NOT have anything to do with Radar Scope !) but instead he turned it into something completely different, being Donkey Kong. Since it runs on the same hardware, and since the sounds are created with descrete components rather than a sound chip, Donkey Kong sounds like Radar Scope.
But this video has nothing to do with Donkey Kong. And you are stating that "Shigeru Miyamoto's first game for Nintendo" was Radar Scope. So therefore you are giving FALSE information.
Miyamoto designed Radarscope, and he recycled some of the art design and sound into Donkey Kong. You should probably check your facts before you start throwing accusation like that around.
Miyamoto DID NOT have anything to do with the development of Radar Scope. Miyamoto was instructed to fix up this game, but instead he turned it into Donkey Kong. Check your facts.
Not sure how you can be instructed to "fix up" a game and not actually be part of its development. He was involved in the game. Check your own facts.
OK...you need to go and watch that special series on the Discovery Channel (The Rise of Video Games or something...). Miyamoto himself SAID that he REDESIGNED Radarscope into Donkey Kong. That TV series even talked about all the bad times Nintendo was having when they couldn't sell any games and they had to recycle them..
In conclusion, Miyamoto was hired to work for Nintendo and he pulled their asses out of the water by created the ever-so-popular Mario.

This game actually looks like it would be quite good - especially back in 1981! i would have thought it looked awesome back then.

@bikerbabes1: yep - Donkey kong was made as a conversion kit for this game, as it did't sell well in the U.S.

Aren't these effects from Donkey Kong?

There is another version of Radar Scope that has original sounds instead of sounds that were later used in Donkey Kong.
Also, I personally think that Americans didn't give it a chance because of it's difficulty.

This looks like the pinnacle of Nintendo gaming. Why did they even bother with Donkey Kong???

This wasn't Miyamoto's game-- he was asked to redesign this game, but instead just made Donkey Kong.

Nice upload, I was wondering about the game that pretty much ruined Nintendo... and at the same time, saved it :)
Cheers!

Well, Miyamoto did Donkey Kong, so it kinda did have a bit to do with him.

Radarscope almost ruined Nintendo so they hired Miyamoto to design a good game and use the Radarscope arcades and reprogram them to Donkey Kong.
