Looks like you're playing your character pretty close to how I did mine. Hold onto your cash and you can just buy a cool crystal on Coruscant at the aucation house. Or you can gain the skill to make crystals later. But you'd have to work at to get anything fancy.

Quill you need to get in the habit of using your out-of-combat heal often. It really helps when you reach the later planets.

Rest Zones are like Taverns in WoW I believe. Bein in one and logging out in one grants you bonus exp gain depending on how long your in there.
