Thanks in advance, I want to post a similar vid just more detailed, theres alot of questions that can be answered with a more detailed vid, of course with your help, thanks again !
@WaGgZzTeRTv Yes, it would make sense to use a bigger panel...if you plan to attach the panel to the box as I did, the box will need to be bigger too. Buy the panel first then measure for the correct box size.
@WaGgZzTeRTv Thanks for your comments. I see you can still buy them if you search the Web....at this point I can't find another suitable replacement....pity as it's a great little power pack.
You are mentioning that you are solar charging your Energizer XP8000. I just got one too and I am wondering whether you experienced an explosion yet - or any other negative impact using a solar charger.
@dudelsack54 I've had no issues at all.The charge controller is built into the XP8000 so that should keep it safe. BUT, charging it with a solar panel is done at your own risk as that is not how the manufacturer intended it to be charged.
how is the 5 watt panel charging the energizer power pack how is it wired to it did it come with a dc adepter? or did u homemade a adepter that goes in the panel to the power pack if so can you show me what it looks like plz
@vang7733 Sorry I missed this comment. The Energizer power pack did come with an AC adapter but I don't use it in this solar setup. The solar panel is directly connected to the input of the power pack. This happens to work well as the input voltage required by the power pack is about 18-20 volts and the solar panel supplies about 18 volts at its peak. The power pack has its own charge controller so no solar charge controller is required.
@Basrijn Hi Bas, I just checked Amazon and they still have it. I would just be careful as the manufacture date on mine was 2006 which is a little shocking. Amazon still have the XP18000 as well which has double the capacity.
What is the model number of the energizer battery pack? The only ones I can find have a higher voltage that I expected- I was concerned that a 12V panel would not charge it fully. thanks
@metrowash It an Energizer XP8000. It has USB 5v out, 9-12 volt out and 16-20 volt. It will detect what output voltage you need for the device you connect. It "should" have 19 volt to charge. Most 12 volt PV's actually put out between 17-20 volt. So a 12 volt PV works fine, even if the voltage drops to 14 volts it seems to charge ok. Just be warned that in no way is it designed to work with a PV, but so far it's worked like a charm for me.
@mjlorton Thanks, I'll give it a try. I have a unisolar 34 watt This would be handy little device to compliment it.
One other thing- while in outdoor section in Walmart , I found a small waterproof see- through box. Since it is see-through, you could simply attach the watts up meter where it could be seen without cutting a hole in the box. I'd like to install both the battery and a watts up meter in it. The setup would be very weatherproof. The box was less than $10.
nice little solar setup. I plan to make a similar model. Thanks for the video!
BTW, you can remove the ziploc logo and white writing from ziploc bags with rubbing alcohol. The writing comes right off, and will allow you to better see what's in them.
Great Video!! Quick question....How are you getting the Energizer powerpack to charge the duracell one?
GarrettmDyer 3 weeks ago
@GarrettmDyer The Duracell pack needs 12 volts input to charge so I just take that from the output of the Energizer. Thanks for watching and posting.

Hi, it seems that the Energizer is no longer made. Have you looked at similar products from other manufacturers?
