Final Fantasy VIII Tonberry King & Tonberry Optional GF Battle

i easyly defeated the them with a lv 34 squall on disk 2 useing his limit break back to back take a total of approx 10000 full only thing was my squall kepy getting hit with 6400 from knife while slepihe and zell was getting hit with 324s

Are Tonberry's the only enemy in that area?

When you move closer to Odin, there are different enemies. I know there are Forbiddens. I don't recall what other enemies are there though. But you'll only encounter Tonberry's on the first screen (and maybe the second).

what level are ur characters?

also u got eden and bahamut already?

For this battle, Selphie is at 20, Squall is at 36 and Zell is at 23 for levels I mean. Yes, I try to get Eden and Bahamut as quickly as possible to get them leveled up as high as I can while I level my own party. Cactuar is a must early too because he is only a level 20, but Tonberry is a level 30 so I get him last.

which disk are you on when u get all the gfs? Diak 2 or 3?

I get them all on disc 3. You can get Tonberry on disc 2, once the Garden is mobile, but you can't reach Bahamut, Eden, Cactuar or Doomtrain until disc 3. Getting Tonberry on disc 2 would mean you could kill Tonberry's fairly easily without endangering your party. Personally, I get Odin on disc 2, but come back to Centra Ruins on disc 3 after getting the Ragnarok and the other GF's, for the reasons above.

Ok that is good advice considering my Squall is on level 22 and he lacks the spells foud later in the game such as arua and meltdown, plus with only 3000 hp the Tonberry kings knife attacks could kill me pretty easily. I did get oldin however.

u can deal more than 9999 with eden if u keep going up after it hits 250

Yeah, I usually get Eden to deal about 35000 damage when I'm done with the game on full boost.

Okey, I should have read the discription of this vid first before commenting on the Ultima Weapon vid... So, nice show :D It's great to see all of those awesome GFs again.

Also, do you know what the mechanics are behind Tonberry's attack (as a GF)? I think it's got something to do with the number of Chief's Knives you've got in you inventory, but I'm not sure at all.

Hmm, I thought Tonberry's attack was strictly based on the characters Mag and boost. And I know Chef's Knife will raise your compatability with him if you use it, but I don't know if it helps for damage.

Compatability only makes it so that it becomes summoned faster from what i can tell :S.

That's right, compatability makes the summon faster. I know the GF compatability items can have some other strange effects as well, but I think it's only if you use them, not just simply having them supplied.
