@Boromir26 The Pagan Roman Emperor Aurelian, in an effort to unify his empire, created an official state religion that combined aspects of the solar deities Sol, Mithras, Apollo, Baal, and others. This "new" god, was called Deus Sol Invictus, and the focus was on him, even though other deities were acknowledged. The Sol Invictus cult (one God, many forms, many gods, an underlying unity) paved the way for Christianity, and it is Christian culture which gave us the music we are hearing.
@lichtbroeder I know this, but Christianity as it has come to be understood and practiced in most western Europe draws a lot more closer to the writings and interpretation of Paul, or Saul - a Jew - who completely warped the initial teachings of Christ! Besides Sol Invictus cult never implied worshiping a human being!! that is what I am opposing in Christianity, the idolatry and the "saintysm" that has a grip on it! And indeed Christian culture gave us the music.
Hm, it would make sense yeah. But I definitely noticed something spanish in it. But it appeals to you personally, Belgium is the successor state of the Spanish Netherlands ;)
@KarlMartell732 Despite the great power of Spain resulting in owning 1/4 of the entire world or so, France was always greater than Spain, undoubtedly more civilized. Spain, who was obsessed with endeavors such as the Sta. (Stupid) Inquisition was and up to the date is lagging behind French and British improvements, without the which we would still be climbing trees. Especially the Americans would (I know this whole comment sounds biased and offensive but it's all true).
That´s probably true. The western culture is what developed out of Charlemagne´s frankish empire and its core nations were always France, Germany, North Italy and (conquered by "frankicised" normans) England. Spain was a periphery nation and much influenced by the moorish heritage.
But don´t underestimate artists like Cervantes, Velasquez and Goya. Don´t unterestimate that the spanish court etiquette from 1500- ca. 1650 was adopted and imitated by all Europe !
Belle et puissante avec un rayonnement sans égal ! Grâce à un monarque sans compromis qui a su imposer sa loi à l’Europe entière. Que serait aujourd’hui la France sans le règne de Louis XIV?

Do we still worship sun gods nowadays...? Hmmm... I wonder...
markusboyd3 3 months ago
@markusboyd3 frankly I'd rather have most Eurpeans worshiping sun gods and the eternal flame of the sun, as our ancestors did, over worshiping a jew.

I remember a scene where a fat spaniard is weeping. It was the time when France replaced Spain as the dominant european power.
