I'd never trust a branch to hold the weight of my ATV.You should have at least used a snatch block and a strap to keep the cable/rope from cutting into the tree branch(making it even weaker).

Like was mentioned below...just about any winch should lift your ATV like that...especially when doubling the line back(which slows the speed down,but doubles the pulling capacity).Having it stuck in mud greatly increases the resistance.The only resistance you have is the weight of the ATV.(Nice bike BTW)

Nope, no snatch block needed. It had plenty of power to lift the machine. All I did was throw the cable over the branch.

if your breaking winches then your not winchin properly or not taking care of u winch imo. could be to small of a winch for the wieght ur pulling should be at least 3x gross weight your trying to pull (ruleofthumb) seems like your saying warn is bad because u didnt use it properly

@fischerskidude i will disagree with that because of the type of driving that u can/will encounter will play a large factor on how much resistance will be placed addtionally, if it was a flat land then sure but some sticky peanutbutter mud or a steep incline then no it can an usually isnt enought to get u out so that is why your statement cant be considerd right.

Sometimes you can get so stuck that a winch just won't pull you out alone. I have a friend who got so stuck on his 600 sportsman that it took a Ram 3500 to pull him out with a tow strap. Like you said, get at least a 2 ton winch. 200 lbs isn't even the weight of most four wheelers.

sorry i never got back to you. The winch is a warn RT2500.  Yes, I'm very pleased with it. I'd love to have the synthetic rope though

yeah, it's fuel injected, but the oil doesn't circulate the engine enough when it's at that type of angle. A minute or so is alright, but not for extended periods of time. That's why I was nervous
