Can you please play a full Trampled Under Foot by Led Zeppelin cover? It would totally kick ass! No one has one on this site with an actual D6 Clavinet as John Paul Jones used.
@Fizz102 I'm no expert, but i would imagine some EQing on the amp, plus playing slap on your bass, and a Wah pedal would do the trick pretty well; no synth pedal needed. I feel like the EQ would need to be treble heavy, but really, the majority of the clavi sound would come from your slap playing and the wah. Hope that helps.
i love that damper button XD you cannot having that sound on emulation, also the wah wah effect still better with the original one. i need to found this instrument somewhere.
@ACDC7369 there's no market for them. they were about $1,500 in the 1970s (which was when they peaked in popularity.) adjusted for inflation a new one would be around $7,000-8,000. would you pay $8k for one of these?
For some of the funkiest Clavinet playing around, I highly recommend "Finders Keepers" By Chairman Of The Board, from 1974. Clavinet played by Andy Clark. It's on YouTube.
I've got a question, if the clavinet is supposedly an amplified clavichord, why does it sound so different (and great, btw)? and also, what is the difference between a clavichord and a harpsichord?
@WILFARA I can't answer your questions, but its just because when it was 'electrifyed' the sound had to be altered. A Hammond B3 is supposed to "emulate" a pipe organ actually.
That's be what you'd call a 'squashed' chord. Due to the fact it has both major and minor third present. Works only due to the fact they're an octave apart and the C in between should be played nice and prominently in the chord for it to make sense. If you were to label it, I suppose you'd call it a D7(#9).
Would love this instrument. Synths just don't do it justice.
thanks, that was really interesting. I always wondered why people can't just use keyboards, but I didn't even realise clavinets were mechanical- they must be expensive though!
no keyboard will ever sound like this because a clavi is mechanichal with little mallets strking strings, which is why it sounds like a guitar or bass.
So what's the brand? And what's the cost?? i am sooo coveting this right now...
If only there was a decent electric piano where you could switch between an near-authentic rhodes, wurlitzer, clavichord, hammond B3, and acoustic piano sound instead of buying each seperately :(

its a clavinet. they naturally sound like that. think of an acoustic guitar -> electric guitar, then think about a regular piano or clavichord -> clavinet. it uses pickups (like an electric guitar) under the strings inside the thing. the pickups work by taking the vibrations from the string and turn it into an electrical signal via magnets and coils. this signal is then pumped into an amp and voila. sound.
Nice vid, especially th last part where we get to see the creature inside. And yeah, you play like a god. It's easy to figure out your choice of instrument-emulators now - so when are we seeing your physically modelled tight and funky drumkit? :)

i'm trying to recreate the clavinet sound on Bob Marley's Get up stand up using a clavinet sampler. marley's song sounds like it has an autowah. not sure if its something like Stevie Wonders mu-tron3.
i would appreciate your advice in particular regarding:
1. what possible effects used on get up stand up
2.both marleys and wonders songs, do you think they were more than one clavinet, recorded and layered to create the sound
3.for both songs what might be the clavinet settings.
Never heard the "Marley Clav" tune.however for the "Wonder" tune i assume u mean the "Superstition Clav". if u are, then on that tune, this is what was used,a "Mutron III" filter box,a autowah, and 3 Clavs, all being run through a delay.
theres actually 8 clavinet parts. check out my video on youtube that showcases the individual trax from the multitrack master recording of superstition.
Damn "Funk" good lookin out!!!. were da fukk u git "Motown" masters???. does motown know this did they have a fire sale?. i got part of what u sayin,i think u are sayin, one man "SW" is playin 8 clavs,or is he playin on 8 different tracks, with one clav?. and if so this can't be played live?.

Until 0:30 you show, the D6 get into the right hands! Of course, D6 always sounds a bit superstitiously.
The Hendrix-part shows, for spareparts you take guitarstrings (you will never need, but in urgent case, there always is a string available on stage) .
