  • you need to smile and headbang like stevie

  • YEAH!

  • whats the song at :56?

  • wow i want one.

  • woah, the clavinet sounds like a killer

  • stevie wonder

  • play the Seinfeld theme song on this thing- I'm curious about how it would sound.

  • Can you please play a full Trampled Under Foot by Led Zeppelin cover? It would totally kick ass! No one has one on this site with an actual D6 Clavinet as John Paul Jones used.

  • Good stuff. I don't understand the 18 'dislikes'... Rock on!! :)

  • @Fizz102 I'm no expert, but i would imagine some EQing on the amp, plus playing slap on your bass, and a Wah pedal would do the trick pretty well; no synth pedal needed. I feel like the EQ would need to be treble heavy, but really, the majority of the clavi sound would come from your slap playing and the wah. Hope that helps.

  • I love that instrument.

  • Awesome sound and playing! Thanks for sharing!

  • How much something like that costs?

  • That thing has an incredibly insane sound!

I agree with SirArthur56 down there. Play Trampled Underfoot from Led Zeppelin! That would be sick, dude!

  • That thing kicks ass, dude. I'm a bass player myself, but I've started getting into keyboards a bit, and damn do I want one of those things.

  • Have you heard Kenny Minnear on the Clav with Gentle Giant? Mega!

  • @MaartinAllcock Oh yes.

  • Wow! You have got the Clav sussed! Where are you?

  • WOW, that is the coolest sounding instrument ever. That, or the vibraphone, cant decide

  • Dude you should post a video of you playing Trampled Underfoot!

  • @Verbeke1992

    It must be a D7#9 ( sounds like "foxy lady" ) !

  • All that funkiness... powered by a 9-volt battery? Nice!

  • @TeamNES1 It...... is?

  • what are the switches on the left?

  • @jasonkneil Pick-ups selectors

  • Its so nasty sounding but in a good way.

  • Where do you get a Clav?

  • Really nice man , keep up goodwork

  • Is this improv? It's really good.

  • O dear, how much I want one of these. Great playing! :D

  • holy crap

  • Uarghhhh, I do love the theme at 00:50, made me think of something... a clue ?

  • i love that damper button XD you cannot having that sound on emulation, also the wah wah effect still better with the original one. i need to found this instrument somewhere.

  • do you have some trick/technique to play with both arms in the same time

  • Comment removed

  • classic! :D

  • super funky!

  • hohner should start making these again.

    that would be awesome.

  • 17 People listen to Lady Gaga

  • I love electromechanical contraptions.

  • so cool..thanks for the peek inside as well.

  • nice, but too textbook, not enough SOUL!! let yourself flow the music, dont stand so stiff!

  • nice

  • 0:21 cool fill!

  • it's a D7 sharp 9 - as in starting from the bass: D (with LH), F sharp, C and F natural.

  • it's a D7 sharp 9 - as in starting from the bass: D (with LF), F sharp, C and F natural.

  • Good music. Can you transpose one of those down?

  • Sweet, a real D6

  • dude sorry, i didn't see it had been pointed out a dozen times already:P

  • @zioguido its a called a D7#9 actually:)

  • We Want Tank! And Trampled Under Foot!

  • We Want Tank!

  • @CLIPPAGE1994 I'd like too !

  • Duuude !! You play soo good ! : DDD !!!

  • This and the B3, what happened?!

  • @Verbeke1992 hendrix chord

  • WHY DON'T THEY MAKE THESE ANYMORE?!?!?!?!

  • @ACDC7369 there's no market for them. they were about $1,500 in the 1970s (which was when they peaked in popularity.) adjusted for inflation a new one would be around $7,000-8,000. would you pay $8k for one of these?

  • @chieftp Yes. If I had the money.

  • @Cds56 nuh uh.

  • @zioguido i actually think it is Bbmin7b5/D

  • @Verbeke1992 what's wrong with that chord?

  • Cool

  • @zioguido I think it may be D7#5#9

  • i think the Ohio Players have an opening! ;-) "well well well!"

  • @zioguido D7#9

  • can you PLEASE make a lesson out of this PLEASE this is epic on so many levels

I agree with Verbeke it is raping my brain.

  • pretty awesome instrument man. you in the C7 scale or something?

  • @Verbeke1992 D7#9

  • For some of the funkiest Clavinet playing around, I highly recommend "Finders Keepers" By Chairman Of The Board, from 1974. Clavinet played by Andy Clark. It's on YouTube.

  • I've got a question, if the clavinet is supposedly an amplified clavichord, why does it sound so different (and great, btw)? and also, what is the difference between a clavichord and a harpsichord?

  • @WILFARA I can't answer your questions, but its just because when it was 'electrifyed' the sound had to be altered. A Hammond B3 is supposed to "emulate" a pipe organ actually.

  • @zioguido

    lol isn't that just D7#9.

just hearing it, it's definitely the sound of a dom7#9 chord.

  • @doenen Yep!

  • Wow, You realy rock!!!

  • wow

  • Nice, but you may want to consider slowing things up a bit rather just playing the notes.

  • Funky to death !

The perfect sound. Coupled with a deep fender rhodes, + a round P-Bass.

    I love it.

Could you play some Commodores - Machine Gun…?

  • è fantastico.......stupendo

  • @Verbeke1992 lool

  • what kind of keyboard is this?

  • No it's the chord D7(#9)

  • @Verbeke1992 loool

  • Anything played on a clavinet is amazing! They should just get rid of normal pianos all together and start making these again.

  • holy crap your amazing

  • @BassDude50000

So true he had to say it twice

  • holy crap your amazing

  • @zioguido

the correct notation would be D7#9

  • @Verbeke1992 EARGASM

  • Vrey Funky!!!!! I Love It!!!!

  • great instrument you got there.

bet you could play some rick wakeman on that = D

  • really really good..

  • It's D7#9 ...

  • That's be what you'd call a 'squashed' chord. Due to the fact it has both major and minor third present. Works only due to the fact they're an octave apart and the C in between should be played nice and prominently in the chord for it to make sense. If you were to label it, I suppose you'd call it a D7(#9).

Would love this instrument. Synths just don't do it justice.

  • @auroraweddingband my fave keyboard instrument is between the D6 and a minimoog model d.

  • thanks, that was really interesting. I always wondered why people can't just use keyboards, but I didn't even realise clavinets were mechanical- they must be expensive though!

  • @jamesjonesrocket

You couldn't hear the mechanical action in Billy Preston songs?

  • you have to get a wah peddle

  • wtf you guys ... this is a clavinet, an instrument made of a keyboard, and hammers knockin on some guitar-like strings to produce this sound.

  • this keyboard use electricity????I'm sorry but i'm just new to funk!!!

  • @jazzymaniacs

Yup. You've probably heard it from "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder (actually several clavinets sampled and recorded on top of one another)

  • hehe, you're correct about stevie laying down multiple clavinets (8, to be precise). however, he tracked them all live. no sampling back then.

    happy holidaze! :-)

  • @i8246i

    It's called chorusing.

    Thanks. lol

  • Yes.

  • there is no funkier instrument

  • finalmente ho tempo di vedere un po' di video...

    ciao ;)

  • ótimo!!!!!

  • I'm jealous! How the hell do you get hold of something like this? And the Hammond B3 - top of my wish list!

  • This guy should play some

    TRAMPLED UNDERFOOT!!!

  • @WayTooManyPuppies Holy crap this indeed sounds like that instrument. LOOOL

  • no keyboard will ever sound like this because a clavi is mechanichal with little mallets strking strings, which is why it sounds like a guitar or bass.

  • Sick!!!!

  • i now understand exacly what people mean when they say ''they dont make things as good as they used to''

  • YEAH!!!!! SIIII!!!! HERMOSO!!

  • So what's the brand? And what's the cost?? i am sooo coveting this right now...

If only there was a decent electric piano where you could switch between an near-authentic rhodes, wurlitzer, clavichord, hammond B3, and acoustic piano sound instead of buying each seperately :(

    Folks is broke.

    ------------------

    and reflect.

  • oh yeah that electric piano would be heaven :)

  • Get a Nord Stage !

  • i'd go for the Korg SV-1 (:

  • well, there is the nord stage ex, and if you get the one with 88keys you get also fully weighted keys.

  • Actually, there is a keyboard that is pretty exclusive to the old sounds of the 70s. Its about $1,200 - $2000 though

Watch videos on the Nord Electro. Ive been eyeing this thing ever since I started getting interested in these old keyboard sounds.

Put this in your browser after youtube: watch?v=XBDxkLByWRQ

  • the nord electro 3 can do all of that. check it out

  • ull neva get sound like this outa a virtual analog keyboard like ull neva get a sound like a moog in a virtual analog synth

  • It's not the same. A Nord 3 might pass as a rhodes, but not a clavi.

  • portentoso!

  • guitar tube amp works the best

  • Amazing Sound!!! Beautiful Instrument!

  • I want this Man...I love the clavinet...

  • spettacolo! :D

  • zio guido, ma dove l'hai trovato questo strumento fantastico? :) complimenti!

  • i like to add chorus to a clavinet, gives a totally different sound to it

  • awesome video

  • wow this is great!

  • awesome!

especially the part through the guitar amp sound great......just like john lord ;)

  • Comment removed

  • what was 1:00 from?

  • cool, kinda superstition theme to it.

  • skis to my friendd!!!! woooo!!! :D

  • hello can u pls tell me notes for the part at 0:15 - 0:18...im learnin keyboards and fuck lessons cuz theyll teach you twinkle little star lol...mad skillz bro

  • I am thinking of buying a Clavine, where did you get yours, its a Hohner d6 right?

  • I guess it's a D6, it's written in the beginning of the video. When I'll begin rich (;D) I buy a D6 !

  • The funniest thing about the clavinet is that it evokes flashbacks of cheesy 70's porno films.

For that reason you can't play a ballad on the clavinet. :)

  • Sounds wonderful!

  • Nice stuff man.

  • Very nice playing. Sounds great man !!!

  • tiene el timbre como de un bajo en el slap..

  • he zioguido, just a musician trying to get that sound on my keyboard. could you please explain to me how this instrument works, do you use a pedal to get those effects your sound or does your keyboard do that automatically? Do you know if it's possible to get a sample of that sound, so I can get it with my MIDI keyboard? thanx a lot I like how you play..

  • its a clavinet. they naturally sound like that. think of an acoustic guitar -> electric guitar, then think about a regular piano or clavichord -> clavinet. it uses pickups (like an electric guitar) under the strings inside the thing. the pickups work by taking the vibrations from the string and turn it into an electrical signal via magnets and coils. this signal is then pumped into an amp and voila. sound.

  • Until 0:30 you show, the D6 get into the right hands! Of course, D6 always sounds a bit superstitiously.

The Hendrix-part shows, for spareparts you take guitarstrings (you will never need, but in urgent case, there always is a string available on stage) .

  • What are you running it through?

  • How long have you been playing?

  • Awesome. I love the funky sound of the clavinet. Your playing was stellar.

  • Do you know how the later models(E7) sounds compare to the older(D6)?

  • E7 and D6 are identical, except for a better ground shielding in the E7

  • Nice vid, especially th last part where we get to see the creature inside. And yeah, you play like a god. It's easy to figure out your choice of instrument-emulators now - so when are we seeing your physically modelled tight and funky drumkit? :)

  • We just got our D6 delivered to our house today... it sounds old and cranky, but we're giving it a complete overhaul and hooking it up with a Fender Twin Reverb in a few months... I can't wait...

  • kickass! you got the FUNK!!!

  • Dude! That sounds so cool! Haha

    I want one! Hahaha

Very nice playing! I really like that Stevie Wonder sound. ;]

  • i'm trying to recreate the clavinet sound on Bob Marley's Get up stand up using a clavinet sampler. marley's song sounds like it has an autowah. not sure if its something like Stevie Wonders mu-tron3.

i would appreciate your advice in particular regarding:

    1. what possible effects used on get up stand up

2.both marleys and wonders songs, do you think they were more than one clavinet, recorded and layered to create the sound

3.for both songs what might be the clavinet settings.

    happy new year.

  • Never heard the "Marley Clav" tune.however for the "Wonder" tune i assume u mean the "Superstition Clav". if u are, then on that tune, this is what was used,a "Mutron III" filter box,a autowah, and 3 Clavs, all being run through a delay.

  • theres actually 8 clavinet parts. check out my video on youtube that showcases the individual trax from the multitrack master recording of superstition.

  • Damn "Funk" good lookin out!!!. were da fukk u git "Motown" masters???. does motown know this did they have a fire sale?. i got part of what u sayin,i think u are sayin, one man "SW" is playin 8 clavs,or is he playin on 8 different tracks, with one clav?. and if so this can't be played live?.
