The best italian warplane was the Macchi 205 Veltro. One of most significative battle was over Sicily in 43. Only 30 Macchi 205 faced 60 Spits shooting down 17 of them with only 2 losses among the italian planes.
The Battle of Britain museum at Hendon has an intact Fiat biplane that on a beach only slightly damaged after a fight with a Hurricane during one of these raids.
I don't need to think for long to decide who's more of a coward, the people in your imaginary situation, or you, the person behind a computer who has never seen a war in your life.
If you read Douglas Bader's Reach for the Sky there is a piece about the Italians, they visit a downed bomber and are delighted to find flasks of Chianti and Italian Sausage in it !
@GroucherMarx At the war museum in London there is a picture of the crew of an italian downed bomber (i think a breda). The just captured crew was happily posing in front of the wreck, one of them with a chianti flask in his hand. Probably toasting to the end of (his own) war!
Italy helped Germany during the attacks, but the help was very limited and the presence of Italian bombers over Britan wasn't really accepted by British propaganda. That's why no one knows about Italy's part during the Battle of Britain.
I am a student who live in London for a past 4 years, during which I visited RAF museum and read many books about Italian corps in WW2 but a never found anything about theirs involvement in "B of B."
I like FIAT airplanes and would be interesting to know how they perform against British Supermarine S.
As far as I know Italian planes like the MC-202, MC-205 and several Reggiane models (like the Re-2005) were more than capable of handling Spitfires. The problem with those airplanes, however, is that they were usually equipped with weaker weapons and their number was not as high as that of the opposing Allied forces.
Other than that, Itay had the tools to carry on. Sadly, however, Italian industries did not match the others in terms of effectiveness.
Hi, Could you tell me where this movie was made ? Does this was filmed at chièvres airbase with the 43° stormo ?

In the quiet memory of the courage of all airmen, no matter whether friend or enemy. Everybody has fought proudly for his country.
Honour and respect.

I but those Italian warplanes flew faster in reverse than forward. Makes it easier to retreat.

Look at the film of Robert Stanford Tuck on here and you'll see wartime British newsreels made a big deal of Italian bombers being over here.
