yeah I saw him at the pacific ampitheater in LA in 89 with leo kotke ...oh the memories......what an inovator.....like will akerman said ,....he tore my head off...
I worked this concert, he was AMAZING! The theatre is spelled MAHAIWE, and it's pronounced MU-HAY-WEE. He played for the crew after load-out across the street at the Gazebo for about an hour!
My best friends dad, was his best friend. I even got to see some rare home videos of him playing for my friend, I only found out about him about five days ago.
@hippo83 PLEASE get them posted :) there are many of us who would love to see these private performances... and I bet Michael would be thrilled to have his intimate settings available for anyone to watch on youtube.
@OmegasWill this transcends anything to do with opinion... its beautiful in any way you look perceive it. how dare you even slight it with self serving banter for governance.

i want to learn this, but the technique, like the acoustic tapping is so unfarmiliar to me, i dont want ot start leanring it and end up just failing epicaly (which is wat will proably happen).
If you're too concerned about failing, you'll never be able to learn anything new. Go out and branch into new styles and don't be afraid. Ultimately, it will make you a better guitar player.
So much more than guitar: a vision of liberty. And more than "tapping", though he has spawned a worthy school. Those who seek him should find John Strope's early book of transcriptions, which includes Aerial Boundaries. John was my teacher, one of those who pointed the way to exploring acoustic guitar and its roots. Michael Hedges thought of himself as a tree; I am sure most guitar players understand. I thank Michael Hedges, thank John Stropes -- and you type3secretion!.
Michael was probably my favorite musician. I loved the concerts he gave. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, unfortunately he was one of those people. He will always be in my soul.
This whole concert was magical !
