  • how many hh was that horse you loaded into your car? my mini is 9hh and I really want to bring her places but we don't have a trailer.

  • @candymeadowalmondjoy He is 32 inches at the withers. The seats are removed and we have a type of barricade so they will stay in the back part of the van. I have had 2 minis in the van traveling short distances.

  • @Peggasus09 oh ok thanks! :D

  • LOL heidimule....what's not to like? Check out my other videos and you may find yourself wanting to know even more. Clicker Training is surrounded by many myths and misunderstandings. It really is a phenomenal way to train. Thanks for your comment.

  • you are really making hard for me to not like clicker training....

  • CUTE!!

  • I clicker train my 6 yo appaloosa X and hes gone from unmanageable to an angel. It's amazing and i hate how so many people will refuse to even listen to me say how great it is. Your video shows that in 3 minutes of love and fun.

  • Wonderful video, thank you for sharing! You mentioned that you are careful on how you deliver the food and have some good techniques for that... could you please elaborate? I'm starting to clicker train my horse and 8 mo. old puppy, and want them to wait for the treat, not crowd me or become pushy.

    Thanks!

  • Génial :)

  • omg its so wonderful i cried to see someone that loves their horses like u do =)

  • I love the body build of those minis, tell me, are they american miniatures?

I have an american miniature, a pregnant mare, my first little horse <3 I am training her to do some tricks, she can now spin in a circle when I say spin, and push her ball when I ask her "Where's your ball?" She is stubborn, and most of the time very calm, but when it comes to training all of her energy explodes and she wants to do it all, pick a random trick, and thus forgets what I asked for xD

  • Nice video!

  • @ancestralblue thanks:-) Wish I had made it in high def. but it still gets the point across :-)

  • Thanks for responding to my video. I checked out yours - very cool. I love that little pony. Also, that soundtrack, "If I Had A Boat," is one of my favorites.

    Terry Wolf

  • You obviously love your horses and spend a lot of time with them. Do you have a video that shows you starting a horse that has never done clicker training?

  • @KarinC234 - Karin, the horses in my videos have different levels of exposure to clicker training. I have posted stuff with horses learning something for the first time, but nothing with the horse's "first click."

I'm training a 5 mo. old right now. She's been with me for a very short time and I'm teaching her that both scratching and treats are ways I can make her life better. And she's willing to do some behaviors to get them. Maybe I should take the time to do some video work with her....?

  • So in the case of food, the FIRST thing I teach the horse is that in order for the training (and food) to progress, the horse must keep its head forward, away from the food source. I'm also careful on how I deliver the food and have some good techniques for that. I'm glad you're trying out clicker training. Done safely it is a HUGELY powerful training tool.

come join me on Facebook - Clicker-Training-Horses :-)

  • That's a really great question. ALL forms of training, to be effective, need to be studied carefully. If a person uses a whip to make the horse move forward, that person might get kicked if they don't understand the tool. If a rider uses a bit and rides with heavy, unresponsive hands, the horse might become dull to the bit and run away. Just two examples of training tools that could be misused.

  • Do you have any problem with them wanting to nip with this kin of training? I tried this a few weeks ago after I watched your vides's the horses I was woring with id really good with what little time I put in that day. Thank's :o) and Nice Job!

  • Gorgeous! You make it looks so easy and I don't think I have ever seen a better example of cliker training for horses.

  • @Furry4Legs - Thank you so much, what a wonderful comment. Watching the horses figure things out this way is a complete joy! Thanks again.

  • Oh my god, that is adorable!!!

  • @PuppyPleaseLLC Thanks so much. The song is one of my all time favorites and hey, the minis are just plain cute.

  • What treats do you use to reward your horses?

  • Really, it varies from horses to horse. Calorie content is a factor with the minis. And It also depends on how distracted they might be. If we're training on grass I use a higher "value" treat than if I'm training on dirt. I also use pelleted feed that count as their daily intake cause I don't want to make them overweight. Did this help??? I hope?

  • Great video! 5* Thank you for the smile. :-)

  • how long did it take you to teach them those tricks?

  • It really depends on the trick. But lying down (which seems to be a favorite) was actually easy with the clicker. I just clicked and paid when the horse laid down. No ropes, no fuss...all very easy.

Was there a trick in particular you liked?

  • i mainly liked the ones where your big horse walked sideways and when he brought you the bucket, and the ones with your mini were it laid down and when it had it was waving i think. these i want to teach my horse, any advise on how to get her to do it? and would you say useing the clicker helps?

  • Clicker Training is how I taught all of these tricks, even lying down. So start with something easy like touching a target. Click when you horse touches it, then give a tiny treat. Keep doing this until your horse touches the target really well. Then click every time your horse turns its head away from you so it doesn't try to mug you for the treats. If you want to learn more you can always find me on Clicker-Training-Horses on FB.

  • it´s fantastic! :-)

  • Im not understanding very well, did you clicker train and you are posting the results? are these everyday shenanigans that your horse does?

  • In the video there are behaviors in every stage of training. Some are being trained as you watch; some are well trained. My guess is the "shenanigans" that caught your eye was the lip flapping??? LOL. That is a behavior that was "captured" meaning he invented that trick and I started click/treating when he offered it.

    Did I answer your question?

  • He's a little STUD, haha so cute and clever.

  • Well....no....but sometimes he thinks he is...LOL

  • This is a fantastic video! Excellent music and pretty horses. I love your natural communication with the horses. If you are interested I have uploaded trick training videos too, but I am not as good as you :-)

  • Thanks so much....hey, as long as you and your animals are having fun that's all that counts!

  • aaw your horses and ponies are really cute!

i really want to teach my pony tricks. i started with bowing yesterday, and she was pretty good, but as ive had her for only about 2 months now, and she is 18, i dont know what she has or hasnt done. has any one got any tips?

  • great vid! The mini is ADORABLE he always wants to join in the fun great work your horses have a lot of will.

  • Thanks...wow...it feels great to have someone see my horses as having lots of fun and "will." Thank you.

  • Love it!

  • Thanks!

  • Shes not a young horse..... Shes 10 years... But i treat my horses better than I treat myself! lol. What I mean by that isI treat my horses like i treat myself. lolololol!

  • Hahha, I have a horse named Pegasis. my baby.

  • It has been my nickname since my dad gave it to me as a little kid. Lucky you have a young horse; take good care of it ;)

  • Yup, her name is Maybelleen. Maybelle for short. I'llprobaly make a video of her. ;]

  • OMG, it's so cute to see happy trained horses.

  • Comment removed

  • In the background my full sized horse walks by and McKee just keeps sitting there LOL. So you've had the Fellabella since birth?

  • I hope you don't mind me posting a video response. I have used clicker training with great sucess on the little shetland pony, inspired by some of the things in your videos. The horses just love the clicker and so do I! Its really heard of much in england most people shun it but im positive people will realsie what thier missing one day! x

  • I love your video. You're an inspiration; a real talent. Valiant is lucky to have found you.

  • the horses are so talinted =))

  • Oh I love that buckskin its so pretty and that little minature is so cute too!

  • Thanks so much...

  • I looovvvveee clicker training, awesome job!

  • That's great...the more people hear about it the better off the horse world will be. good luck!

  • Ive started my 9 year old and my yearling in click training but I really dont know what I`m doing. Can you please tell me what sites you found most helpful? You did a really good job with your horses

  • You can always check my site :-)

Another great site is clicker training . com.

  • Please what is your site. I have a new horse and want to learn to do this.

  • that side pass was amazing and the mini in the bean bag chair was the cutest thing everrrr <3

  • Thank you so much! Buckwheat (the buckskin doing the side pass) is a real joy, and McKee (the mini) is about as smart a horse as I've ever trained.

  • I adore this video! and I loved the side pass in the beginning. So far Peter Pan and I have turn on the forehand and haunches but after I have the trot where I want it i think I am going to start on more lateral movements. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Keep up the great work; I know you and Peter Pan can do it.

  • I'm so impressed with all that you have done with your horses! Thank you for sharing!

  • Thanks for your kind words. I keep hoping to spread the word that you can train incredible amounts of behavior without pressure.

  • Great! There a lots of articles on the web describing how to get started too. Keep in touch! Thanks.

  • great video!! I saw a article of clicker training in a magazine i got at the tack shop, An I'm gonna try the thing about clicker training in that...

you an your horses look awesome!!! :)

  • my paint mare knows how to side step like at 0:28

  • Very cool....I love the sidepass towards me, it's fun to do!

  • Thanks! The talent is really just effective training.

  • That is amazing!

I have heard of clicker training, and have seen it being done. I personally think it is fantastic!!!!

One day i would love my horse to be able to do those tricks that you have shown in the video. Very well done!! You and the horses are totally talented!!! x

  • those horses and ponies are gifted.....same with the owner

  • Thank you for your compliment....the training style is the gift to both the horses and myself.... :-)

  • so cute :')

I started clicker training recently because we had an accident and I can't ride yet. so I have to do groundwork and then I found clicker training, it's so interesting!

I got a lot of new ideas, thanks for posting!:)

  • I'm so sorry about your injury, but I know you'll find a great new avenue for you and your horse through clicker training. Best of luck!

  • And i thought MY horse was well trained!

  • SO amazing! Can you do that to m mini, please? lol I drive my mini though, I love it.

  • omg, i luve it! i dont know how u do it, but thats amazing! i luveeeee the horses, and they look very healthy and well luved!:D<3

  • I use a click sound and food rewards for the horses. It's called Clicker Training by some people. Yep...they are well loved...thanks :-)

  • funny pony

  • cool

  • how do you make them sit?

like what "aids" do you give them?

    i'm learning clicker training! woooh!

  • Would you believe I taught this through freeshaping. In other words, it's like the hot/cold game; I clicked when he backed into the big exercise ball. Keep studying the techniques and this will be the most fun kind of training you can imagine! Best of luck.

  • Glad you're having fun. GREAT question about the cues. I use hand and verbal. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes. Make your cues VERY distinct from each other. For example I used "mat" and "back" as verbal cues...didn't work. Now I use "station" and "back." Hand cues can get confused too, so pick them carefully. Thanks for your comment.

  • W0W!! Amazing! Iv been clicker training my horse recently and he loves it! he really looks foward to it! I even got him herding a friend around the field which all of us found hilarious! You've give me some great ideas to try love the video! Do you use a voice command or a hand signal after sucsessful clicker training?

  • its just beautiful how willing these horses are for you. Congradulations on your sucesses! hopefully more people will recognise a non-abusive training like yours. I truley admire you.

  • Thank you for your lovely comments. The horses really do enjoy the interactions...as do I!!! :)

  • How do you get them to follow you?

  • You mean side by side or forwards or in the sidepass?

  • Like following beside you.

  • Beautiful!

  • What is clicker training lol I don't know much about horses but I'd love to learn.

  • The first thing you do is teach the horse that the "click" sound means a reward is coming. Then you give them an easy task like touching a target. When they touch the target they hear the click and get a reward. Once they understand that they can get what THEY want by doing a task YOU want the training possibilities are almost endless.

Think about SeaWorld and all the things that those mammals/animals do....same training theory is in use.

    Good luck...it's worth learning about!

  • OMG could those ponies be any cuter?? I don't THINK so!!!!

  • ;-) I'm sorta hooked myself....I'll give them a carrot and a scritch from ya!

  • wow the part with you riding one of the buckskins and the other buckskin following was so beautiful!! i loved it! =)

  • Thank you. I thought "Buck" was very "generous" to let McKee come right up behind him and still "stay with me." That's why I clicked and treated him.

  • Great video

  • hi, I think the idea of ct is great, reinforce the action with a positice reward e.g the click. but do you not find the click incredibly annoying? and also would it not be even better if what you do could be done without the click/treat? I don't want to sound like I'm agaisnt ct, and your horses are definately lovely, I just feel that the c in ct may not actualy be nescessery!don't want to put ppl off it tho, dnt mind most stuff so long as its not hurting the animal.

  • Ah...glad you asked this question. The click has one purpose; it is a precise sound that says "Yes, you did it right." You can mark with ANY kind of sound however there is scientific data that suggests the click is more effective than words in the beginning training phase. I always start a new trick using the "annoying" clicker. I then switch to a different marker sound.

Check Karen Pryor's site. CT really is a science and a powerful one. Hope you check it out. thanks for your post.

  • Thanx for explaining! will deffinately look at that site!

  • beautiful vid, your horses are gorgeous! what other animals do you ct? coz there are only a few apart from dogs and horses!

  • I CTrain horses professionally, dogs for fun, and have also trained pot bellied pigs and birds, but I don't claim any expertise with them :)

I know that just about any living organism can be trained using positive reinforcement.

  • cool, id love to see a vid of the pigs, as the only vids ive found so far are of horses, cats dogs and birds! what sort of things can the pigs learn? and do they respond to ct as quickly, or more so than dogs/horses? im just curious, is all. i love ct, what can i say! lol!

  • I only have a few pictures of the pigs. I helped out at "Best Friends" Animal society and we taught clicker training to the rabbit center as well as the horse and pig areas. It was really great.

  • tht pony is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute

  • "McKee" is 4 now. He was 2 when I made this video. He is such fun and thinks he's 16 hands LOL.

  • yes, clicker training is the best. I practise it with my cat too (I have 2 vids on my channel). I would never train an animal in any other way. I love to read and learn about it. Hope to see more vids from you. I've a horse that I've had for 21 years. (Horses have a very special place in my hearth. I love yours, they're beautiful ♥ Keep up the ood work.

  • I love the way you interact with your horses. Beautiful animals. ♥

  • Thank you so much. I've trained horses, dogs, birds, pigs and other animals using clicker training. They always appreciate being treated with positive methods.

  • That is amazing!

I don't understand how you learn them that..

I've got an pony and 3 other horses, and I can't even have them standing still for 10seconds x) :$

  • Be sure to read all you can on clicker training. When the horse understands that they get "paid" for their work they really try much harder. :)

  • What treats or rewards did you use with them?

  • Every horse has it's own special favorite treats. I also watch what I use with the minis. But many things can be considered a "treat" to a horse including carrots, little bites of pelleted feed, scratches on the withers, a bite of grass or whatever you find your horse likes!

  • ugh thats so cool!!

  • Thanks!

  • Agréable et Original ...

    BRAVO !

  • Merci beaucoup! Clicker Training est tres amusant.

  • thats awsum your awsum!! i have a mini shetland and iv trained him to stand with his front legs on blocks but wow ur mini goes round so fast.. also trained him to follow my legs going over poles if i jump he jumps if i step he wil step il put vids on here when he is better =) 5*

  • You've done a lot with your mini! Congrats!

You might have fun checking out clicker training your mini. They have so much fun doing their job when they're working for a treat!

    good luck!

  • Yes I do clicker training with my horse but I'm a beginner

  • There is a lot of great info. for beginners....hang in there, it's worth the effort!

  • Omg very very cute!!! haha

  • wow the buckskin horse is beutifull!!!!!!!!! whats his name??

  • His name is Buckwheat! The one I'm riding was named Buck; we lost him last summer but he was 29 and had a good life. Thanks! I'll tell Buckwheat he has a fan.

  • srry for your loss, he was GORGOUS!!!

  • Thanks! The one doing the ground work is still with us and full of life. I'm also going to get a buckskin miniature filly; I'm soooo excited!

  • Hey Peggasus09..sorry for your loss(buck),but tell BuckWheat that I am another one of his fans! He is alot more beautiful than any of my horses.

  • I'll tell Buckwheat, the lip flapping wonder, that he has a fan (did you see him in our outtake video?)

    thanks!

  • Thanks,I havent seen your outtake video yet,but I am about to see it.Thanks

  • Doesnt clicker training induce them to bite later on? Arent they always looking for treats this way? Do you get to a point where you dont have to reward with treats?

  • Great question! A long standing myth is that once you introduce treats the horse will bite. I have several ways of teaching the horse to wait for the treat, including turning his head and "posing" until the treat gets there. I can hold treats open handed in front of a horse's nose and he'll wait until I give permission to eat. I've had years of successful experience teaching kids to hand feed horses. So if you like the idea of using positive, please research it. You'll be glad you did.

  • Oooh, so cute !

  • Can you speak German?

  • Sorry....just a bit of French. Are you clicker training in Germany?

  • oh wow its amazing...very good

  • Where can you purchase a clicker used for this type of training? I never have been able to find one.

  • can i plz ask how u get a horse to lay down on command..cuz u cant push a 1000 pound horse on the ground...

    thanks!

  • If you'd like to email me we can chat. With clicker training I never needed to push or use ropes or even pull their front legs back.

  • Wow, that person is a great horsetrainer for sure!! It's amazing! :D Keep up the Good Work! =)

  • Thanks for the compliment but truly, clicker training can make anyone look like a good trainer. The horses love to work in this positive environment.

  • wow that little mini is SO cute. i would really want to lean to clicker train a mini!

  • It's very fun. My full sized horses are clicker trained too....

  • 2 Duns And 2 Shetlands ;) so cute!

    Rob Thomas 2+2 ever!

  • there actually miniature horses :)

  • I love horses! i admire your lifestyle! I just wish i could find me a job where i can afford them and have time to take quality care of them!

  • cute horses! I love the natural way

  • Thank you! I use positive reinforcement to build a great communication with the horses. It's fun. Thanks again for your comments.

  • i l-o-l-o-v-e the dun/buckskin horses! they are BEAUTIFUL

  • Wow, i've fallen in love with your two minis. I've already trained my mini some tricks, not with the clicker. I haven't been able to keep up the training because i've been busy with school. This summer i hope to begin clicker training with him, and this video is very inspiring. Thanks!

  • Thank you so much; they are a real joy to me too. Hey, don't let school stop you from training. With the clicker you can get so much done in just five minutes a day. Truly!

  • Your dunn looks like my old horse :[

  • The "dun" is Buckwheat....the buckskin we lost this summer (he was 29). Did you lose your dun too?

  • Buen trabajo. Saludos desde España-

    Conclicker

  • OMG!! You have done a very godd work with this horses!:D Keep up the good work, I can see that you love yhe horses, and they love you!:)

  • Thank you very much. It is so wonderful to train using the clicker. Yes, I love them all.

  • How did you understand what he just said?

  • You have a great touch with that!

    Keep on the good work:)

You've inspired me to begin "clicking" with my islandic horse:)

    Amazing horses you have^^

  • thank you so much! Be sure to check out "iceryder" website. Judy has a wonderful site with Icelandics and clicker training.

    Good luck!!!

  • thanx peggasus09 ill check out your website what is it??

  • TheBestWhisperIsAClick

  • thats pretty cool, but do you go to circuses??

  • Just performance and clinics. But a circus would be fun :-)

  • omg do you now any sites that i could look at to teach my arab x that i would love to show my friends those tricks with my horse :):):):):):)

  • You can check out my website for lots of info and links. I'll bet you and your arab would have a great time with clicker training.

  • ohh my god they are so cute!! :P

I'm just so amazed.. I wish that I'll make so far one day,, or just near:P

    it's so amazing:D

  • Thanks so much, believe me, you can do this. Just keep "clicking" :)

  • you're the coooooooooolest !

  • That was so cute!I have got to stop watching your video, I'm falling in love with your horses!

  • No way! OMG! THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!! Dude, when are you going to come show me how to do that? Lol xD

VERY awesome though. To see someone be able to speak to a horse like that, it's amazing.

  • Hello Ava. Just for general info. Clicker training started with BF Skinner in a scientific application, then Marine life and Zoo's where it's used with profound results. I've seen video of a zoo hyena putting it's neck against a cage and holding it while blood was drawn from his jugular vein, all done with CTing. It's science and not about tricks. Positive reinforcement (aka Clicker Training) is often misunderstood, but it can produce phenomenal cooperation in all species.

  • This is great! I would like to have the same contact with my horse once.

  • I promise you, with Clicker Training you can have this kind of contact. I wish you all the best.

  • I diaagree. If you are teaching tricks then yes clicker training is usful. Clicker training was origionated for DOGS be careful you do not substitue good horsemanship for food. If the horse is not a calm and confidant horse you will have problems

  • Love this video and the song is GREAT! Who is the singer and the name of the song. Thanks for posting these wonderful videos. Clicker training is so wonderful for both human and animal.

  • Thank you Joni,

Lyle Lovett is the composer and singer. This song is so free spirited and playful, just like the horses. You might also get a kick out of "Gotta Go Feed the Horses" by Mary Ann Kennedy.

  • It's lovely to see more people who believe in non-abusive training, especially when it is very possible to obtain results like yours.

You can see your horses are content and well looked after.

  • Amazing, amazing, amazing ..

  • That is amazing!

  • Thanks amanda..

If you like this you might watch "Gotta go Feed the Horses." The minis are so cute.

  • That is sooo Great. Where do you live??? Do you train horses for a living???

  • Thanks! I live in CA and yes, I train horses and teach people about Clicker Training. If you liked this, check out "Gotta Go
