  • mvsu band gone get in that ass this year

  • And the post including the Sudler award... Check out the criteria - it isn't so much based on musical or marching ability as it is on overall "spirit" - The Sudler Trophy honors "the close historical relationship and outstanding contribution of Intercollegiate Marching Bands to the American way of life."

there is little question about the contribution the UofA band has made to the university athletic environment.

  • UCA - history of a decent band program, with some high points (2007 being one of them). I would put UCA against UofA now in a favorable light.

ASU - Another hit-or-miss band. The video on this page is definitely not their best work.

  • There is much more you can do with a smaller band that you can't do with a large band such as UofA's. I do not have little band syndrome, I'm just saying maneuverability is much greater thus making performances more interesting and in most cases the band is able to control dynamics and perform dynamics on a greater scale. Where as in larger bands these feats aren't as easily accomplished, thus leaving the audience deaf and well that's about it.

  • UCA is better than ASU, but neither compete with the UofA, get real! -- JustAnotherSaxGuy must be from UCA,,,got the "little band" syndrome going on.

  • I disagree that neither of them compete with U of A. Sure, UCA and ASU band people have a chip on their shoulder. They don't get near the exposure yet perform as well as the razorback band. The only thing U of A has on either band is numbers, and UCA is growing like crazy. So who knows what will happen. Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for U of A band and certainly don't want you to think that I am attacking it. I am not.

  • I have to agree with you guys about the dynamics that this band chooses perform at. Speaking as a former member of this band I can attest that it has been this way for a very long time, even when i performed( 02-05). Loud and Proud! I do miss it though, this brings back many memories.

  • i agree with hizzo. the dynamics could be a lot better. i only heard two dynamics in there: loud, and louder. and with a queen song such as this, i bet there are way more things you could do dynamically. Just my $.02

  • The dynamics in this are a product of the arrangement. They are there but the band can't take credit for the contrast.

  • "the band can't take credit for the contrast"

Moron. If the band didn't execute, dynamics wouldn't happen. That goes for any musical element for any piece for any ensemble.

Absolutely the most retarded comment I'll read today, I'm sure.

  • He's just jealous because ASU moves when they play and UCA doesn't. U of A just sucks, I don't know if they just have too many people to march, but that is ridiculous.

  • U of A sucks, and I suppose winning the Sudler last year is proof right? LMAO at you--and talk about jealous. Both ASU and UCA have a long, long way to go before they sound as good or march as well as the Marching Razorbacks.

  • I'm late to the party on this one...but I just have to chime in...

I have never been all that impressed with anything about UofA's band, other than the size. But their approach is pretty typical D-1 in character - big and loud, but often sloppy as all get out. Did see them once last year and they were a bit cleaner than in previous years - but still not impressed.

  • No dynamics at all. Such a shame.

  • I hear dynamics. You're just jealous.

  • UMMM...you are a deaf son of a somethin' if u cant hear the dynamics!
