It's easy to get caught up in the tradition and the images we have in our minds; the red coats, horses, hounds, beautiful countryside. It is quite interesting and seems to be a lot of "fun." However, I don't fancy the end result. Foxes are adorable and I feel that they should be left alone. Just imagine the fox as a human, and it loses its charm, eh?
I was brought up in the country & now live in a small town that borders the countryside. I have seen the damage foxes do, i've seen peoples chickens, pet rabbits etc ripped appart by foxes, they dont just kill 1 animal, they kill everything in the pen. We have a big problem where i live, they crawl the streets at night, rip open bin bags, turn over bins, raid peoples livestock etc. What most people dont understand is that a fit fox almost always gets away, its the sick animals that get caught

Hunters are really nice people..don't judge from a documentary. I'm personally against hound-fox hunting, I mean..it is more humane to shoot the things. If they're stealing hens, shoot it. They hunt because they enjoy it!!! They kill less than 2% of the fox population which is a pathetic amount! A kid with a water pistol could do better. Some (not all) are just too arrogant to realise they are out of date and have very little support from the 21st century folk of rural England!
lol, are you still spouting that crap. in areas that the hunt manage, which isnt everywhere they can wipe out alot more foxes than 2% taking a percentage from accross the country considering that about half of it isnt hunted, is a ridiculous thing to do. and of course they enjoy it, its an unpredictable ride across the countryside. i personally prefer a more effective measure of fox control, but that has been banned too despite being more humane than a rifle round, grow up and learn something!
It does answer your question, some people only hunt knowing that the fox is being put out of its misery. I personally hunt because I love the feeling of working with my horse. The speed and the chance of falling. Controlling a very excited horse is brilliant. Jumping hedges is brilliant, simply to be social with my local hunt and mates is brilliant. It is not cruel. It does a favor for the countryside. Why don't you think I should hunt?
Hunting fox on horseback with hounds is the kindest way of killing the fox. This method puts the fox through the least pain by a long shot. It also is kinder as normally a healthy fox can escape, injured and old foxes, which can just as easily catch a chicken but will not live for much longer are caught. Anti hunters do not see that hunting is the kindest method and just see it as evil people torturing a helpless animal. This is completely wrong and i assure you hunting is the civilized method.
Yes it goes through pain but only for a matter of seconds. Your argument is ridiculous. Of course it is going to hurt the damn thing for one or two seconds. All of the other methods of killing a fox now are much worse. I would much rather be caught by the hounds than shot in the backside or drowned. I am sorry but saying that hunting is cruel because the fox is bitten for five seconds before it is dead is ridiculous considering the days of pain when shot or the minutes of pain when drowning.
It is rare to get a kill. But before hunting was banned farmers did not kill foxes. Now it's banned more people are killing foxes. So no it does not limit the population that much but it does stop the horrible deaths of foxes from farmers. I would rather be killed by a pack of dogs than one man. Hunting was banned but just as many people still hunt. Maybe even more in fact just last saturday we got a fox. Its leg was broken and was just skin and bones. It is a sport just like eventing or racing.
They do go through a short period of seconds in which they are conscious. But they do not actually feel that much. The amount of adrenalin pumped into their body blocks the pain. They feel pain but not as much as you would imagine. It makes a huge difference. It happens quickly so I would much rather go through those few seconds rather than being drowned or shot. It is not very often that you see a one shot kill. In fact very rarely. Foxes often die from loss of blood from the shot. They escape.
People who project a human way of thinking upon foxes are just plain stupid.
Everyone I know from my community are living off the land in one way or another, and strangly enough NONE OF THEM ARE VEGETARIANS or animal right fanatics. I have seen the damage foxes do, i've seen peoples chickens, pet rabbits etc ripped appart by foxes, they dont just kill 1 animal, they kill everything in the pen. Hunters are really nice people..don't judge from a documentary. I'm personally against hound-fox hunting, I mean..it is more humane to shoot the things. If they're stealing hens, shoot it. If they're over populated, shoot it. Don't make it run for miles and miles and slow down from exhaustion then get out numbered and ripped apart by hounds.
Shooting=more skill and it's more satisfying because you'd actually be able to keep the carcass as a trophy.

What the fuck. Foxes are pests and vermin they should be fukin riped up. I have seen what foxes do to lambs. They take bites out of their asses and then leave them to get infected and die. The fox injures animals for sport and not for food. It would kill a lamb just for the fun of it and then leave it in the paddock without even taking some meat for food.

The fox has no natural predators and thats why we have to do something about it, and fox hunting is the best way to do it.

They hunt because they enjoy it!!! They kill less than 2% of the fox population which is a pathetic amount! A kid with a water pistol could do better. Some (not all) are just too arrogant to realise they are out of date and have very little support from the 21st century folk of rural England!

lol, are you still spouting that crap. in areas that the hunt manage, which isnt everywhere they can wipe out alot more foxes than 2% taking a percentage from accross the country considering that about half of it isnt hunted, is a ridiculous thing to do. and of course they enjoy it, its an unpredictable ride across the countryside. i personally prefer a more effective measure of fox control, but that has been banned too despite being more humane than a rifle round, grow up and learn something!

It does answer your question, some people only hunt knowing that the fox is being put out of its misery. I personally hunt because I love the feeling of working with my horse. The speed and the chance of falling. Controlling a very excited horse is brilliant. Jumping hedges is brilliant, simply to be social with my local hunt and mates is brilliant. It is not cruel. It does a favor for the countryside. Why don't you think I should hunt?

Hunting fox on horseback with hounds is the kindest way of killing the fox. This method puts the fox through the least pain by a long shot. It also is kinder as normally a healthy fox can escape, injured and old foxes, which can just as easily catch a chicken but will not live for much longer are caught. Anti hunters do not see that hunting is the kindest method and just see it as evil people torturing a helpless animal. This is completely wrong and i assure you hunting is the civilized method.

Yes it goes through pain but only for a matter of seconds. Your argument is ridiculous. Of course it is going to hurt the damn thing for one or two seconds. All of the other methods of killing a fox now are much worse. I would much rather be caught by the hounds than shot in the backside or drowned. I am sorry but saying that hunting is cruel because the fox is bitten for five seconds before it is dead is ridiculous considering the days of pain when shot or the minutes of pain when drowning.

It is rare to get a kill. But before hunting was banned farmers did not kill foxes. Now it's banned more people are killing foxes. So no it does not limit the population that much but it does stop the horrible deaths of foxes from farmers. I would rather be killed by a pack of dogs than one man. Hunting was banned but just as many people still hunt. Maybe even more in fact just last saturday we got a fox. Its leg was broken and was just skin and bones. It is a sport just like eventing or racing.

They do go through a short period of seconds in which they are conscious. But they do not actually feel that much. The amount of adrenalin pumped into their body blocks the pain. They feel pain but not as much as you would imagine. It makes a huge difference. It happens quickly so I would much rather go through those few seconds rather than being drowned or shot. It is not very often that you see a one shot kill. In fact very rarely. Foxes often die from loss of blood from the shot. They escape.
