It saddens me that this words turned out to be prophetic. The flame of the blues legacy is still burning, but it's slowly dying. I like to imagine blues musicians as candles who together shine one great light - but more candles are getting blown than fired up these days. And I'm not afraid that one day the mankind will wake up in a dark cave with no candle to shine a light - I'm afraid that I'll be a witness of this day coming. Here's to all 531002 who watched the video: DON'T LET THE FIRE DIE!
My favorite part of this is when Willie sees them walk on and goes, "aw shit" and the whole band joins them with the exception of Blue Lou who goes to get gas
I love this scene so much. And i love everyone commenting on this page agreeing with this speech. I'm 17 and i love the blues, a lot of people my age listen to some awful music...*sigh*. I saw Buddy Guy and B.B King live, great shows. I wish music like that was still being made and we didn't have half the crap we have on the radio now. I'm doin my best to keep good music alive!!!
I dont give a sh.t to critics or people who think they are fan of the original film but in reality are not, a true BB fan loves this film as much as the first one! Blues Brothers Forever, the music will go on man!!
So I was looking up all the musicians from this movie just for the hell of it. It kind of surprised me how many of them are dead now. Lou Rawls, Koko Taylor, Isaac Hayes, Bo Diddley, Wilson Pickett, Billy Preston, Clarence Clemons, James Brown and (being a bari sax player this is a pretty big bummer) Grover Washington Jr. The movie may not have been great, but it's a collection of singular people doing what they do best. That's gotta count for something.
Truer words spoken. He predicted the music of the 2010s as they are(except grunge is now gone & rap is more verbal than violent anymore)
Case & point, Ke$ha, Rebecca Black, Justin Bieber, and every last auto-tuned teen, tween, emo, & digitally sampled amateur out there in the music world or on YouTube.
This is the reason why I looked up this vid. To see if anyone else found this moment of this movie as the most prophetic speech of the 20th century. Indeed no truer words have ever been spoken on the music industry. It saddens me that this is what music has come to.
I love techno as much as the next guy, but every now and then I always go back and play the epic tunes of BB King, James Brown, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee, SRV, and all the great virtuosos that made rock n' roll, soul, blues... because Elwood has preached the truth, if we leave it to autotune, the music world as we know it is F***ed!
For my co-workers at that lumber shop. I too am on a mission from God...but you know that already. I'm still an average guy like you...sans the skull tatoos and radical fringe right-wing political vitriol perpetrated by pundits. I pray for all of you. Don't trust politicians, trust in Jesus.

Now, that day has come, music today is the crap that we could not destroy, I cant go on the radio and find a good song nowadays, long live dave brubeck, to hell with usher, justin bieber, lady gaga, and all those who killed the good name of music
I like Elwood better in the first film. He was an innocent, laid-back, carefree and footloose. And his voice was deeper aswell. His voice is fairly annoying here, suddenly gone from deep to high-pitched. I like that he looks after Buster and acts like a father figure to him, but the other half of his personality is just not the same. I miss the old Elwood.
Thanks for posting this great old classic. The sheet music for Booker T.'s original organ part for "Green Onions" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription of the main riff.
@BestWaffles I will say that hendrix was an innovative guitarist, but as far as actually playing his instrument goes, his riffs were fairly simple and could be mastered in a day. the only thing he was good at was making his guitar sound unlike a guitar. That doesn't make you a good guitarist, in my opinion, but what do I know.
@modernway91 In the film Blues Brothers 2000, the name of Robert K. Weiss is mentioned in a speech by Elwood Blues as the final name in a long list of legendary blues artists that Elwood lists to convince his band not to quit. This is presumably a reference to how Weiss convinced Dan Aykroyd (Elwood) and director John Landis not to quit the film.
everyone just needs to stop comparing this movie to the first one, how many sequels can you name that were better that the original? as far as i'm concerned, they only pulled that off with the Godfather II, the Dark Knight and the Lord of the rings. of course the original is better, but that doesnt mean this is a bad movie. the music is great (again) and it has that blues brothers feeling to it. i like it anyway, and all those of you who piss vinegar and shit bricks: fuck you, go cry in a corner

explain the 4 stupid people who said this isn`t a good video that the world can `t exist without the american legacis:
Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed, Memphis Slim, Blind Boy Fuller, Louie Jordon, Little Walter, Big Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson I and II, Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson, Elvis Presley, Lieber and Stoller, and Robert K . Weiss.
just watch the movie Crossroads and it was about a legendary guitarist named Robert Johnson, and the first name Elwood says is Robert Johnson. If you love the blues watch Crossroads, its awesome.
Dan aykroyd really lost weight and looked great for this. He was really fat and old looking before this, and he worked hard to get into shape for it. Regardless of wether you like this sequel or not, you have to admit he DID become Elwood again for it.
I know ackroyd tried, but in my opinion, he did what some white people did to the blues in the seventies, made it un fuckin cool. He put out a disney movie that truly sold out the original masterpiece that was acessible to a white kid who fell in love with music after seeing it. I'm glad the artists on this piece of shit made money, but sad it shit on a movie I consider special. I would say ackroyd had good intentions but, since he wrote both, I can't. It's all opinion, but jesus christ.
@yogurtpimp I totally agree with you on differences of opinion. Mine is just mine, doesn't make it the right one, just saying my peace. Take it easy, man.
Through the shittyness of this failiure of a film shines truth in what Dan Aykroyd said. Thats whats really important about this film i think Dan wanted people to hear that and remember it and what better way to make a point, a true one at that. I need a fuken blues band then i want a 74 dodge monaco, then im going to ejaculate tones of real music upon this garbage ass world.
They also should have had a line like " No sarcastic kid, tall fat guy, and that guy from Terminator 2 can replace my Brother jake" they tried.. just not hard enough
blues brothers 2000 wasn't all that but it's somehow enjoyable...but what blew me back was when the car went underwater and shyt...but i hope aykroyd and landis get their shit together and make a better movie...we need a blues brothers 3!!! and i wish that they would rebuild dixie sq. mall so we can see elwood haulin' azz thru there 1nce again...blues brothers for life!!!
"Turn your backs now and you snuff out the fragile candles of Blues, R&B and Soul, and when those flames flicker and expire, the light of the world is extinguished because the music which has moved mankind through seven decades leading to the millennium will whither and die on the vine of abandonment and neglect". Hell, he's right. Look at what R&B has evolved into.....
Producer of the Original Blues Brothers movie among other classic John Landis, Zucker Borthers, and Jim Abrahams movies as well as the underrated tv series Sliders.
io ho messo il video del discorso in italiano ma siccome ci sono mille storie per il copyright adesso il video non si trova neanche tra i risultati di youtube...come l'hai risolto? grazie
truer words have never been said. This speech mean so much more today then in the 90's though back then it was was pretty true. Today there seems to be nothing but well...
recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gangsta-rap, acid pop, and simpering, saccharine, soulless slush.
I would say this movie is as good as the original. This movie had some real talent in it and I still love the original also but this one introduced me to Jonny Lang's music and for that im very greatful.
OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS UPLOAD I did not completely understand this as a kid but now I know HE WAS RIGHT !!

truer words have never been said.

I hate this movie (it just felt dead without John), but this speech is fuckin' amazing. And Green Onions on top? Sugar.

I would say this movie is as good as the original. This movie had some real talent in it and I still love the original also but this one introduced me to Jonny Lang's music and for that im very greatful.

john belushi died before this movie was made. thats why john goodman was in it.
