i was there in december 2010.. the snow was crazy.. we had to stay in the radisson hotel like 2 minutes walk from the airport and we couldn't get there :P
My favourite parts of flying are take-of and landing.....the rest is jsut boring..until there's turbulence and its exciting again....uhm, as long as we all come out alive and well that is...
i remember the one who recorded this.. i was sitting 4 or 5 rows behind. i can remember someone recording out the window ;) and i did enjoy the sound from the engines :P
@pundit116 That isnt a Airbus A320... but a 737-800 from Norwegian Air Shuttle... Norwegian Air Shuttle dont operate any Airbus aircrafts yet.. they will be.. A320neo enter service for Norwegian Air Shuttle in 2015 :D
i would love to be on an aircraft in them conditions the engine spool is amazing!! :D shame we dont have weather like this in britain takeoffs and landings would be interesting
@ilovyousob The 737 has far more thrust than needed (more so for lighter short-haul runs). Keeping it full can cause damage to the engines long term and would result in a steep climb!
@ilovyousob Thats mostly used for A heavy loaded plane on a short runway, emergencies, and go arounds:D Very rarely you see a plane taking off at maximum engine power..
@FlyingKitty900 me too!! WOW! it isnt possible that we all three were on that flight!! OMG?! I saw the info above: (DY3212 on 27 jan 2010 departing 15.45) and checked mine, it was the same!!
@sm0rgm Yeah, it's the sound generated by the blades of the engine. You don't hear the growl from behind the front of the cowling as that blankets the sound (higher frequency sound hence dominated by the lower rumbling)
It's the same general type of sound as that of a turboprop and can be hear towards the front of any jet (but it's more dominating closer to the engine as you were)
All CFM-56 engines (A320s, 737s, and A340-2/300s) sound like that. You think that is loud, try getting on a PW-powered A330 with PW4168s. THAT would be loud ;-)
@EmadIV Well that would be bad too, why can they make some sort of sound killer like in silent cars? or use the hige sound energy to give even more propulsion or something, or maybe is entropic energy that should be avoided for even more efficient engines, just my opinion.
@saultube44 Progress is being made. Boeing just delivered its first 787. If you look carefully at the 787's engines, you will notice some saw-shaped 'teeth' at the end of the cowl. These are noise-reducing chevrons. Airbus' A380's engines are already near-silent without these. In not too long, all aircraft will be quiet. Noisy 777s replaced by the A350, noisy A330s replaced by the 787, noisy 747s replaced by the -8, noisy 737s replaced by the -MAX series, and noisy A320s replaced by the A320neo.
@EmadIV I have to admit, I think it's ridiculous how everyone is so crazy about quiet aircraft - whatever happened to the enthusiasm of a B727 flying overhead?
@blueb0g the background turbine sound is beautiful the constant "roaring" sound is not for me AT ALL. looks like something is vibrating lose there, annoying as hell.
@enigma800 Interesting but annoying for me. I think we should take advantage of the sonic energy somehow instead of letting it out against the propulsion direction; if we redirect it in the opposite direction we would have extra impulse and wouldn't be as annoying I think.
@saultube44 Lol... that is the CFM International CFM56-7 series.. those engines make those kinda sounds... its also this sounds the airbus a320 family with the CFM International CFM56-5 series give you.. the 757 have this kinda sound, and also you can actually hear it on the GE90 engine from inside the 777 after lift off... ofcourse a bit deeper :D the sound is also there on 747.. Totally normal and beautiful sounds :D
@loftleidir001 Sorry to inform you but Iceland has no snowstorms at all. Visit the south pole during winter season. That is a snow storm. What kind of thing is this to argue about? :)
@loftleidir001 I'm from Iceland and there are very rarely snow storms here in May. The last snow fall here was in February (or March, I don't remember which) and it has yet to fall after that. Last year it first falled in November. I'm talking about Reykjavik, the Vestfjords and Northern Iceland are different.
@SRQKEF Thanks for the support :) My, a bit ironic comment, was caused by I thought it was a silly thing to argue about. It all depends on what is normal for where you live. Two snow flakes crossing will be considered snowstorm in southern parts of europe because they see less snow and that is alright. :)
@crocodile2006 Turbofans tend to make that noise at higher power settings, but I actually don't know why. The sound it self might be causing some resonating in perhaps a loose interior panel or something that makes it extra loud. /The almost A&P
@Tjita1 It is a common sound on the 737s. Without any scientific or statistic proofs, I think I've heard it more often when the air is cold. Can that be correct?
I love how the Pilot holds the breaks, lets the RPM build up a little bit and then releases them and adds full power. With the weather the way it was, im sure you want as much power as you can get to get safely off the ground. Great work to the Pilots and great video :D
So mag ich Starts! Triebwerke hochdrehen und noch gebremst bleiben, Bremsen lösen und sofort Startleistung geben und dann gehts gut ab. Klasse Pilot, klasse Start!
There's an EXTREME headwind - you can see it because when the plane stops, the snow is heading to the rear of the plane - indicating a strong head wind.
