Lives are saved every day because people give their time, and their blood to help others. Why talk about blood stored around the world? That doesn't count, because it's not shipped around the globe! Blood collected here, is only used in Australia. We all think if we're in an accident, blood will be there if we need it. But it won't be, unless people take the time to donate.

Giving blood is POINTLESS. Not only do we have millions of gallons in storage throughout the world, but because of this "renewable" source of blood, we've never bothered to develop artificial (long lasting) blood. Humanity once again loses because of people "being nice".
Everyone's an expert! I dont think someone who needs blood urgently would care about the statistics but would just want the blood... safely of course!

Technically they only ban you from giving blood if you've had sexual contact with another male in the past 12 months. Of course, if you're like me, you lie about that and give anyway =D
I'm sure they test the blood anyway before using it, right? When was the last time someone caught HIV from a blood transfusion? Probably in the 80s? Dont flame me I dont know... just taking an educated guess.... Good vid anyway! :-)
And we all know nothing is more accurate than an _estimation_ of a small reported percentage of an area that is 4.53% of the worlds population. SOUNDS LIKE A LEGIT FIGURE FOR THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!
You are completely and utterly wrong. An est 25 mil people have died from HIV/AIDs since 1983. The great majority have been from sub-Saharan Africa. A very small proportion of these are from male to male transmission. Over 2 million children have died and these are almost all the results of transmission from the mothers in pregnancy or during birth. The overall worldwide modes of transmissions, according to WHO's studies, is less than 15% transmission via male to male homosexual contact.
avert[.]org. Even if your numbers are correct that 15% is a big risk. Keep in mind they are not discriminating against gays. Any risk equals a deferral.
* Illegal IV drugs
* Men who have had sexual contact with other men since 1977
* Men and women who have engaged in sex for money or drugs since 1977
* Anyone who has had hepatitis since his or her eleventh birthday
* Anyone who spent three months or more in the UK from 1980-1996
* Anyone who has spent five years in Europe since 1980
Not to mention that if you disregard all of Africa, considering you cant even give blood if you been to Africa, the transmission rate is mostly from Male to Male sexual contact. AVERT is an international AIDS charity and THEY SAY THAT > 50% of the transmissions are the result of Male/Male.
good cause. I don't mean to sound rude about this suggestion....but is there not something that can be done to take advantage of that time of the month?

Howardmeis,
Your comment just proves to many many people how ignorant people can make others believe incorrect assumptions.
I would ask you to do a "little basic research" to prove how increadably WRONG you are!

yes they test it, and if they find any thing strange they let you know...

I think the blood banks are discriminatory but this does not make it right that you lie about it.
I think it is irresponsable on your part to lie like that.

It'd be irresponsible for me not to give blood, I have a very rare type :o

Unfortunately, 53% of HIV/AIDS infections are from male to male sexual contact.

Too bad YouTube doesn't allow you to link... Avert [dot] org -> USA statistics summary. In the future, daft, use google.
