im looking into buying this knife and EDCing it. What would you recomend carrying it on my belt? i dont want it to be very obvious that its actually there. any advice?
my rc-3 is in the mail. The question I have is: Does the kydex sheath do a good enough job on retaining the knife upsidedown? I have been considering on carrying the knife horizontally on my belt behind me. The last thing I would want is to reach for the knife and find out that it is not there. Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
hey FAT AMERICAN TRASH FAGGOT. GO FUCK YOUR UGLY ASS MOTHER YOU UGLY FUCKING TROLL FUCKER. SIT ON BLADEFORUMS MORE U FAT PIECE OF SHIT. TALK SMACK MORE YOU UGLY HAIRLESS BASTARD. GO FUCK A DUCK BITCH....TRAIN
@1:19 that is soooo much bull shit!!!! i own both and they were both shaving sharp right from the factory. besides, if he knew anything about keeping an edge, he would know that a think wide sharp edge will last longer than a thinner edge. thats a fact!!!
Im not that familiar with RAT's micarta. I have an RC-3 with linen micarta scales....and they seem to retain moisture......so anyone want to give their two cents on their canvas micarta? Any different in moisture retention?
did u had a D2 blade that chipped to support your affirmation? or you just read it on the internet? dude, I got a RAT-7 in D2, used it in the cold winter at -20 degrees Celsius to split and cut hardwood, did some heavy chopping with it and nothing happened. it was still razor sharp. I know what I'm talking about, just because I tried it myself.
i have a kershaw outcast in D2, chopped through tons of frozen wood at -25 and its fine. I absolutely love D2. Not sure why every one thinks D2 chips, only if its over say 59RC otherwise it should be fine. The kershaw is @ 57RC, perfect. Do you happen to know what the hardness of the RAT-7 is? Metal should win over wood all the time or its well... useless.
@ChronicMist u know nothing about knives then. dont speak please. actually you are the first person that i have seen saying bad stupid shit about RAT Cutlery. BLOW ME FOOL
jaredbotha, talk you fag shit somewhere else homo. go stab yourself with your Rat Cutlery. if you fuckin like it doesn't mean everybody does. fuck off!
@jaredbotha How old are you, you weak little troll? You sound and spell like a stupid 14 year old. You're not intimidating nor impressing anyone you small pansy. I bet you feel so tough hiding behind a computer screen. You see that window? Yeah that one over there. Do your family a favor and jump out of it, but be sure to land on your fucking neck you insignificant waste of sperm.
I have noticed the differences on these knives. I was given an Ontario RAT-3 which I loved more than the Rowan made RC-3 because the jimping on the spine is a bit sharper therefore more positive on the grip and also for the shorter handle which gives the knife a more even blade to handle ratio. I have small hands so handle length was not a problem. I do love the RC-3 warranty. Both are great knives and if you come across either company's knife at a good price grab it. You will not regret it.
You did a very good job with this comparison review. Many of us knife junkies (myself included) were wondering about the differences. Thanks for the excellent review.
all rat cutlery knives are linen micarta not canvas micarta, the rc-3 mil is the only one with canvas micarta. Ontario on the other hand had several models with canvas micarta, tak1 plain and serrated 1095 steel came with canvas as well as the rat 7 1095 carbon steel.
um no! linen micarta is the color! as in linen like ur jeans! the only Rat with linen micarta is the ones with a black blade (available in rc-3, rc-4 and rc-6). All Rat cutlery knives have CANVAS micarta! look it up on their website!
thats retarded ive never seen a RAT with a denim-blue handle but whatever..
i just know there is three different types of micarta, there is linen which is epoxy bonded layers of linen, canvas micarta which is the same only canvas obviously, then you got the paper type which shouldnt need a discription at this point. fuck RAT Cutlery, look it up on Du-Pont Intl. they make the shit...

I personally like the Ontario RAT 3 better. I like how the jimping is better and the fact that the RAT 3 is the original RAT 3

Rat Cutlery sucks just because they don't make they're blades in D2, but only in 1095
ChronicMist 2 years ago
man, d2 blades in the cold (or sometimes not, for that matter) are much less durable than 1095. they'll chip out bad if you aren't careful.
these are made as hard-use military/survival type knives...they aren't made to sit in a desk drawer.
