It's probably the cloth he has near the nut to mute the strings a bit. It really helps kill that buzz when you're tapping higher up on the neck.

Yes but "a lot" of anything must be relative. A million dollars to me is A LOT, but to Bill Gates, not so much. In music, the most logical way to define "a lot" of notes, is to make it relative to time. See if in one year I played 400 notes, that's not a lot, it is barely more than one per day. However, if I play 400 notes in one minute, that is a lot. The term "a lot" is a relative term, in music, time is the most logical thing to base it off of.
