Van halen without Micheal is the same as van halen without dave or eddie ! alex doesnt count any decent drummer can play the drums ! Their new cd blows ! REASON .... without mikes background vocals it just sounds like a lame dave solo album ! without mike there is no van halen ! LOL I watched one vid and eds kid was bundled up like a down hill skier ! LOL You lame O`s so need mike ! pay up chumps !
@atomicplayboy4u I feel bad for Michael, but he did say he is happy without the drama, too bad it's with Spammy. I think the new CD is great, certainly better than anything they've done without DLR. We are never gonna see Mike back.
it's taken me years to look back and perhaps put a finger on the unique vibe Van Halen gave off with Roth writing lyrics and I now call it cyber punk rock noir.
Memories of great Halen music ruined by visuals of the more extreme Roth worshippers going down on his cock. Because they are literally wannabe Roth cocksuckers. And I say that as a big early years fan.
I think I know why they didn't play this much live. It is one of their best songs. It requires a lot of "attention" to play. Because there is a lot of quick stops in it they can't jam through it on auto-pilot (touring bands know exactly what I mean) like they prefer to do. On this song they have to focus and concentrate or it will be sloppy and in order for the vibe to come across they have to play it sharp and snappy. It is one of their best songs.
I well say this comment in engish and spanish, dutch, this era well stay with me 4ever ! Esta era bien quedarse conmigo para siempre! Van Halen y dave para siempre, la video es chido wey ! Deze tijd goed blijven mij voorgoed! Bestelwagen halen en dave voorgoed... Thanks For Sharing 5150evh5150
Whenever Edward did that chromatic tapping lick, he would always end on the bend tap using the same interval. Ed had formulas just like Charlie Parker.
Another example of the subliminal melding of a brilliant pop sensibility with hardcore metal and blues-based funk. Nobody else ever packaged shit like this... NOBODY!
@duanekimball I don't think there was any proper video for this recording; it looks like he was just throwing together some random images and video to go with the audio.

The black and yellow guitar on the back of VH II is buried with Dimebag Darrell. Eddie Van Halen placed it in his casket at his funeral because Dimebag had said it was his favorite. However, Eddie stated that the guitar itself was not actually used on the Van Halen II; as it had only been repainted for the photo. Body and neck were by Wayne "Charvel". Eddie installed a humbucker in the bridge creating a Fat Strat.
The great Van Halen. I remember when this album came out. I bought it the first day and couldn't wait to get home and play it! I freaked out big time. Especially when I heard Spanish Fly for the first time. I was like "WAHT THE FUCK?!?!" I knew then for sure that Edward was the KING OF THE GUITAR! Good times. I really miss those days. Hope they release a new CD soon. Supposedly they are about to start recording it so... we shall see. You know it'll rock our balls off big time! HURRY UP ED! YEAH!
my fav. van halen song i widsh they played this at the concert. wut a night. my dad bought me for my birthday front row seats and backstage passes. my favorite band. ill treasure that day forever. I have my first job this summer working backstage at the los lonely boys concert thatll be awesome too. Also Van halen was my first concert, an amazing one at that. Eddie was on fire!
Unfortunately.........I attended Styx and Van Hagar shows in my youth..........it reminded me of toilet paper.........wipe your ass with it and flush it straight to hell.
Van Roth shows were something else...........complete hedonism and celebration of sex, drugs, and rock...........best times I ever had.........good memories.
I seen them with Sammy in 93. and while some dont like Sammy, it overall was pretty tight for a live gig. Also, even know Dave is my favorite with VH, his live shows have never been fabulous vocally. I don't know how to respond to the Styx thing. Havent seen them live, wouldnt be fair to bash or praise
styx?? Wow, you need to go to more concerts. Theres alot of talent out there. Rush was one of the best live shows I've seen. OH, and Robin Trower was pretty awesome too. I saw Styx and REO together and really, I had more fun staring at all the mullets in the crowd than I did watching the show! lol
because the floating bridge floyd rose he used on stage robbed tone and sustain fromhis sound...he often used a korina explorer and other heavy/sustaning guitars in the studio and then overdubbed the whammy bar tricks with a non floating floyd rose...but NEVER a floating floyd rose in the studio as he did live
There will NEVER be another Van Halen...ever. Lets enjoy them while we can.

YEAH!

Some live footage would be better still, instead of the slideshow...

So-so sound quality but it's a damn good performance! There's an energy and intensity here that they they seemed to lose later.

This is pretty good quality compared to most of the other 79 tour boots circulating.Besides, it's 30 years old!

I seen them with Sammy in 93. and while some dont like Sammy, it overall was pretty tight for a live gig. Also, even know Dave is my favorite with VH, his live shows have never been fabulous vocally. I don't know how to respond to the Styx thing. Havent seen them live, wouldnt be fair to bash or praise
syckoman76 3 years ago
styx?? Wow, you need to go to more concerts. Theres alot of talent out there. Rush was one of the best live shows I've seen. OH, and Robin Trower was pretty awesome too. I saw Styx and REO together and really, I had more fun staring at all the mullets in the crowd than I did watching the show! lol

For some reason, Eddie doesn't have as much sustain on his live tone (as on vinyl), and it limits the speed on his solos.
bluesdoc333 3 years ago
what does sustain have to do with speed?
stevieVantanna 3 years ago
because the floating bridge floyd rose he used on stage robbed tone and sustain fromhis sound...he often used a korina explorer and other heavy/sustaning guitars in the studio and then overdubbed the whammy bar tricks with a non floating floyd rose...but NEVER a floating floyd rose in the studio as he did live

doesn't answer the question of what does sustain have to do with speed.
