Black friday back then was tamed compared to now. Back then there wasnt quite the mob mentality there is now people didnt camp out a week before. Another difference is that in 1984 the economy was starting to look up. Not the case this year

That's Ralph Renick, who was the anchor when WTVJ was a CBS affiliate, and when TVJ was channel 4. On WTVJ's last analog broadcast (now as NBC6), they used RR's famous signoff message to end the analog service of WTVJ, Florida's first TV station.
