@h4xmode I'm not quite sure when the beta will be over. It's supposed to be sometime this year. If you want to get involved in the beta though I think you can still sign up at the dota 2 website.

I just realized I also should have explained a bit further why you don't need to worry about most of the basics tab: If you left click on any items in the upgrades section, it will show you which items from the basics menu that you'll need to make the upgraded item, and you can buy them directly from that menu.
