Could it possibly have to do w. copyright laws? This way the other studio can't claim plagirism, since it's not EXACTLY the same as the version with John Wayne.

Most horse operas ARE good,even when remade.Look at "Monte Walsh"(Robert Duvall-original,Tom Selleck-remake)or "3:10 to Yuma"(Glenn Ford,Van Heflin-original,Russel Crowe,Christian Bale-remake).

Yeah,they played around with the plot some but it was still good work in both cases.
