Makes you proud to be English when you see what Lola designed, thats why they were all right hand drive. Eric Broadley, what a genius. By the way, there were more than 2 Gulf spec cars, some are still in England. I should know, i supplied rebuilt original parts to the last 40 to be built. It was stored, in parts, until 2009, then shipped to the UK and built for the Chairman of Gulf Oil.
@CharleyFarley1040 It wasnt just Lola there was a team and one of the main engineers was from Ford. Though it was led by Aston martin guy john wyer (sp?) and of course included Broadley but none of the Gt40s ever won or got close to winning until they sent the cars to Shelby and they threw in a 7liter and tweaked the cars and then had their first win. If anything you should say it makes you proud of the collaboration of forward thinking people.
@worldbestlatindad I do not get it. I mean some racing original cars maybe cost millions. but a replica, cost about 50000$ . (I do not remember where i read this).
Dan gurney won in that exact car in either 67 or 68... before u start sayin o ur stupid or u dont kno shit i kno it becuz there is a little bubble on the drivers side and dan gurney was so tall they did that so he could fit in that car.
@BoostedVtec 90% of them are. I honestly have no idea how reliable honda's are. And personally I could not give a fuck how reliable they are. Point is you're trying to tell people that Ford's are found on road dead. This one isn't, so your argument is invalid. Good fight.
Yes the MK1's were built in Britain at first but after 2 failed attempts Shelby took over the project reworked the mistakes with the car and made the MK2 which was the first win in 66, in 1967 the car was completely redesigned as the MK4. In 68and 69 the MK1 was reworked from it's original design and won those 2 races ran by British teams. So actually it's both a British and American design depending on the year. The book Go Like Hell will tell you all you want to know about the Frod GT40.
@trydownloadingthis its one of the best lookin cars EVER mind you i am biased as i watche dit cross the line way back in '69., arguably the greatest race ever, and boy, Le Mans is full of superlatives...
He could probably driven it straight under that barrier :) GT40 is an epic car by the way- British designed chassis and body with a huge American V8 crammed into it! People should learn from it, good things come from U.K/U.S partnerships!
@DoomsDaySlip oh, i dont have any personal experince. but someone told me that. dosnt the 40 in GT40 stand for the total height of the car? i dont know what the unit is for it.
The height is 40 imperial inches, and yes, thats where the 40 in it comes from. It's about as tall as your kitchen countertop. Thats why there are the cuts in the doors, the car sat so low to the ground, it's easier to drop in from the top than it would have been trying to get in it like a normal car. I was good friends with a guy who owned one, and he demonstrated to me how quickly and easily it was to get in and out. We are both tall people, for the record
Obviously the car is registered in Belgium. I like the Belgian flag on the driver's side window. Is this a reflection of the current owner's citizenship or is it a tribute to the greatest of all Belgian drivers, Jacky Ickx? De toute façon, vive la Belgique et vive la GT40!
@SeatBeltFTW i know it was built in britain under the suppervision of shelby, but this car in particular was registered as a ford as has been the most popular form of the car.
who gives a rat's ass if the original wasn't from ford. it's now widely known as a ford.
@DVGTS1 That is not correct. Carol Shelby took over the project (in the states) after the first poor season. (I think Carol Shelby could make a souped up trash cart win a race) Shelby was fond of developing British sports car designs with the awesome power that can be charmed out of the lumbering V8 engines from Detroit of the time(EG. AC Cobra). Give credit where it is due the design was Lola's the development of the project was down to Shelby.Ford kept their distance until it started winning!
look at the fule injection in the window is the GT40 the first to display it's engine seams a lot of super cars do the same thing now and now a lot of cars are going V8 like the M5 whats wrong is the stupid over complcated V10 giving you problems go pay for another valve job or just get an LS3 to replace it so they are replacing it LOL
i would shit my pants tf a ford gt40 drives in front of me ans by the way the car has almost the same decorations like the porsche 917 i love both of the cars!!!
@jozeqfdsfs England. Ford was pissed that Ferrari backed out of a purchase deal so Ford and lotus and I think maybe lola, built the GT40 in England to compete against the Ferraris in Lemans racing. @TheMrDiddlez What about the Corvette ZR1? Shelby Daytona/Cobra/Gt500 Mustang? And the new GT, apart from that yeah the rest are either crap or just not as good as other cars :)
Janusha I think you might be interested in a new German motor bike. It has a capacity of 1200 cc 6 cylinders and is supercharged. The output is around 200hp. It should be lethal. You've got to admire the German engineers. Not much doubt in my mind that the Germans produce the best cars in the world and if they set their mind to it bikes as well
Youtube won't let me show the link it seems so just google these words gizmag horex-six-cylinder-supercharged-motorcycle
@bobcooper31 im looking forward to what cycleworld has to say about this new german bike. but with a supercharger, the output should be significantly higher than 200, otherwise, whats the point of it? BMW already has the s1000rr and it has about 200. i do like how horex is entering the "modern classic" motorcycle genre along with triumph and recently royal enfield and norton
@Allieisatastyflavor "the output should be significantly higher than 200, otherwise, whats the point of it?"
We won't know until we get further info but it may well be that they are designing a bike with plenty of torque to keep it tractable which means they will have to sacrifice some bhp . Not much use of having mega horsepower and a steep torque curve like the 2.4 lire 750bhp Formula1 that has trouble getting away from a standing start. .
@bobcooper31 thats a solid point, but at the same time. how much torque does a motorcycle need? the s100rr has about 80lb-ft which is more than enough to give it greater acceleration than a super car
Not a replica ??
i have seen this one during the summer during an event in Brussels :)
