Honestly, the speech wasn't bad. What i hate is elizabeth. And it's because she really isn't a strong character at all. She's a complete mary sue. Anyone notcie how almost every male lead is in love or at least lust with her? Its riduculous!
after that long intense and somewhat corny speech...... barbossa shouldve taken out his pistol and shot her and said "screw that"...."now back to the real plan".
Pirates just isn't the same without Elizabeth and Will. They should bring them back and considering she's the pirate king and he's the flying dutchman's captain it shouldn't be THAT hard to do it.
Brave, inspiring speech but imagine for a moment a similar modern-day setting, all known and unknown fugitives in the world uniting on board some nuclear-weapons filled warship - Al Qaida terrorists, global narco-mafia, serial killers, pedophiles and gang rapists, Wikileaks journalists.....all uniting against Governments of the world....and some cutthroat bandit gives a similar "Hoist the Criminals" speech.....point is that's the infamy for pirates of the 17th-18th centuries
I love Elizabeths character so much and although I adore keira knightley as well it HAS to be the character that draws you in..and I think she did a wonderfull job portraying the character of Elizabeth I couldn't imagine anyone better to play her for what she was and is; a governers daughter turned pirate king who's lost everything and is willing to fight for what she gained from it all. Freedom. :)
Before anyone gets offended im going to sate that i love pirates, but this scene was kind of corny. Elizabeths speech was kinda cheesy. Barbossa shouldve taken out his pistol and shot her then say "Now back to the plan"
@TheSleeper33 simple by giving the new movies poor stores and having them act them very poorly. Im not suprised orlando bloom and Keira Knightley didnt want to stay any longer for the 4th.
@myk3333 Lol, no. Jack's very image would be skewed by the constant company of ANY female. I'm not some jealous fangirl. I would just like to see his character image preserved.
Sorry for butting in but i whole heartedly agree, Jack Sparrow is not a one woman man his only loves are the ocean and The Pearl..I don't believe he'll ever fully love someone and I believe that in regards to Angelica in the new movie...he was lying to make it easier for the both of them :)
The king and his men stole the queen from her bed and bound her in her Bones. The seas be ours and by the powers where we will we'll roam. Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high. Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die.
I think this scene is pretty cool. I actually love the speech and Keira didn't overdo her acting, though I do think she needs a bit of polishing. Still, I love it :)
@inamarel ikr? totally agree i was so glad when elizabeth & will didn't come back in POTC 4 they drive me nuts with their puny little dramas that drag & sacrifice EVERYONE important because of it
You do realize that she made the speach to rally her men, I mean they all had low morale because of the fact that they were going up against an entire fleet of well built ships AND the dutchmen (correct me if I'm wrong,it's been a while since I've seen movie) which was the best ship in the ENTIRE movie. It did not ruin the scene, it showed leadership and great motivation skills.
You will listen to me! LISTEN! The other ships will still be looking to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead, and what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No, no they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will ... Mehr anzeigenhear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brow and the strength of our backs and the courage in our hearts! Gentlemen, hoist the colors!
The author of this viseo should have titlled it "Elizabeth Swan Speech" or "Pirates Elizabeth Speech"....when one looks up Elizabeth speech....we are looking 4 Queen Elizabeth (1st or 2nd)..not a fictional character in a movie...A better description will give one more veiws... just a thought!!!
@ManWytch who the hell looks up queen elizabeths speech on youtube? she ruled in like the 1500s. now i might be wrong, but i dont think they had video cameras in the 1500s.
1:20-22 never made sense to me. Sounded a little bit too Braveheart for me. But the rest of the scene was probably the most moving part of the whole movie!

you can hate me for thinkin so but...this speech just killed the movie for me ._. it was very cliche and somewhat corny, killing the funny mood the movie had before that. not saying i wanted just a comedy movie, but i just feel they didnt had to put all that serious business talk in words, making a speech before a battle...they could have just smiled at each other and go ahead for the fight. nothing would need to be said, and the scene could be a lot better.
@jimmervision i don't hate you :) i'm glad i ain't the only one, i loved elizabeth's outfit and fighting skill but apart from that she annoyed me so much angelica was easier to deal with hahaha
@Haydensmiles1015 They saw her dad in a dingy, when returning Jack from Davy Jones' Locker. When they were still in the land of the Dead. I loved the citation Barbossa said: It isn't gooing to the land of the dead that's the problem, IT'S GETTING BACK
This whole film is brilliant- the soundtrack is so powerful. I used to really detest Elizabeth but this speech gives me the shivers. I love the pirates=freedom notion and she really delievered there and I can't fault her
kinda gives pirates a noble spin, doesn't it? I think this is one of my favorite scenes. all the pirates getting ready for all out battle....getting riled up and loud and ready to kick some arse....

God, I love Elizabeth. This scene almost made me cry because it was so powerful, so inspirational. One of Lizzie's finest moments in the film, I think.
