The first time I took notice of the art of cheerleading was when I watched 'American Beauty'! The bicycle is one of the greatest inventions of all time, period. Jogging is awesome for a rush of seretonin. Massive respect to dancers - you need everything for that. I ignore the fitness fascists (I used to be one!), Moderation is the best way forward. Badminton is fun! 'The Metamorphoses' is on my list - 'The Divine Comedy' is killing me at the moment! Will keep an eye out for 'Bicycle Thieves'.
We watched a clip from The Bicycle Theives in my Intro to Film Studies class, and I quite enjoyed it. Also, is cheerleading just a stand alone activity or do you do it for your uni's football or other team(s)?
I don't think I've ever heard about cheerleading options in Belgium.. I really don't know if we have it here.. anyway, if we would have it, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't apply, because I'm pretty sure that it would be a serious fail moment for me :D

Cheerleading does look fun. It's like yoga, it looks easy until you try it! I wouldn't call it a proper "sport", but I know it's hard, especially when you get into the flips and lifts and synchro dance elements!
First of all, congrats on making the squad. I know where I went to college/university, it was TOUGH to get on the squad. You had to have a lot of prior experience and just be extremely good at it. So, BIG congrats.
I am curious, though... if you liked the rowing machine so much and wanted some extra exercise, why didn't you try out for Crew instead?
I think Crew had to be the most difficult non-glamorized sport the school I went to. Yes, of course the Football and Basketball teams were the main focus as they brought all the money.
But, Crew was up at like 5AM every weekday either running like 5 or 6 miles (8-10km) or out on the water practicing.
Oh gosh, I'm not even on the squad! You can just do it recreationally. Thank you though.
I don't know whether there's a rowing team here but either way, I don't know that I would be particularly good at it, i just enjoyed the actual machine in the gym, haha.

It's an absolute disgrace "cheerleading" has made its way into Great Britain. It's a hideous American past time which should be kept over the Atlantic where it belongs. I'd certainly ban it from being practiced in this country, another sign of the terrible Americanisation of some of our youth (you've also spelt "defence" in the American way in the title of this, which irks me greatly).
Your videos seem pretty good in general though since I stumbled upon one by accident earlier.

I think some of our youth are becoming generic clones of Americanisation. The fact "cheerleading" is even practiced here now, which I was previously unaware of, is a symbol of that. It must be stopped. Thankfully no-one I know would forgo our own culture for it.
I actually know a fair few Americans settled in London who are thanfully fully immersed in our culture.

But when I go to uni, I might look into it...

i've been cheerleading for four years now, so i wish you good luck for your practices :) (and comps and performances if you're doing any, im not quite sure). Don't worry, it can be pretty daunting at first but after a few practices you'll be completely fine

The first time I took notice of the art of cheerleading was when I watched 'American Beauty'! The bicycle is one of the greatest inventions of all time, period. Jogging is awesome for a rush of seretonin. Massive respect to dancers - you need everything for that. I ignore the fitness fascists (I used to be one!), Moderation is the best way forward. Badminton is fun! 'The Metamorphoses' is on my list - 'The Divine Comedy' is killing me at the moment! Will keep an eye out for 'Bicycle Thieves'.

I don't think I've ever heard about cheerleading options in Belgium.. I really don't know if we have it here.. anyway, if we would have it, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't apply, because I'm pretty sure that it would be a serious fail moment for me :D

Cheerleading does look fun. It's like yoga, it looks easy until you try it! I wouldn't call it a proper "sport", but I know it's hard, especially when you get into the flips and lifts and synchro dance elements!

First of all, congrats on making the squad. I know where I went to college/university, it was TOUGH to get on the squad. You had to have a lot of prior experience and just be extremely good at it. So, BIG congrats.
I am curious, though... if you liked the rowing machine so much and wanted some extra exercise, why didn't you try out for Crew instead?

I think Crew had to be the most difficult non-glamorized sport the school I went to. Yes, of course the Football and Basketball teams were the main focus as they brought all the money.
But, Crew was up at like 5AM every weekday either running like 5 or 6 miles (8-10km) or out on the water practicing.

and hopefully we're going to do our fist competition in may at sheffield arena (:
but it is harder than i thought it would be but doing the stunts is so good, and im only side base, and we do get taught some of the gymnatics but i don't think i'll be doing any back handsprings any time soon... :L

I'm glad cheerleading at your university is good, at mine the cheerleaders really are the bitches, but only because they all decide to play up to that role because that is the stereotypical view of cheerleaders so they just kind of do it. They are very elitist and yeah just quite bitchy unfortunately. It's a shame because I always believed the stereotype wasn't really true but then it turns out at my university it is :(

I was a cheerleader in high school and I loved it. I broke the stereotype because I am quite the nerd. Now that I'm in college I get the biggest "wtf" faces from people when I tell them I was a cheerleader because my personality and "type" don't really fit with the stereotype of a cheerleader. So Rojas, What's the sub-culture of cheerleading like over there in Britain? E.g.: It's function/role in the University's sports program (and the function/purpose of the sports program)? Cheerleading Sub-Culture's social structure? Representative mindsets/attitudes/values of members? Etc.
Maybe best not shared with your YouTube audience, but consider writing your Notes on Cheerleading Sub-Culture for some publication.
