It's all hammer ons & pull offs. Just practice it over and over, that's all you really can do. If you're having problems figuring out the right notes, you might look up some tablature on the web, I know it's out there.

I have a question for you, I am 15 and my friends and I get together every once and a while and try to make a song, but we are always super lost, what are the steps of the songwriting process? like do you write lyrics first or come up with a riff? I don't think there's really a "right" way or a best way.. it's just a matter of what comes to mind, and what works best for you. This song the music came first and I put words to it... others, I wrote music to go with lyrics or a vocal melody I thought up.

Usually how I write stuff is to jam to something (I usually program a basic drum beat and bass line into my drum box, then play guitar on top), then I take the parts I like best and arrange them into a song, then put lyrics to it.

The big thing is that it's not really something you can force, or do on command. It has to just come to you. The more you try, the easier it gets... so just keep trying. And don't worry if it's not that good, every writer comes up with some stinkers.

I play rockband/real guitar as well but I prefer the games over the real, mainly because none of my friends/family can play real instruments and I hate just about everyone in my town so I cbfed to start a real band. Plus it's easier to pick up/put away :P
