Akira Toriyama hand picked her to portray Goku cause see, Goku is supposed to sound kinda boyish, not tough like the rest of the characters. Think Japanese Mike Tyson. Doesn't sound imposing but can beat your ass. A perfect example of why not to judge a book by its cover (as all the villains in Japanese DBZ do with Goku). And its actually pretty common. Luffy from One Piece has a 70 yr old woman doing his voice as well and he's the same age as Goku is here in the Saiyajin saga
