  • THE ORIGINAL STOMP!!!!!

  • For me, the much more athletic style of Gene's dancing blows doors on Fred Astaire.

  • what made me go a little bit of "wow" was his simulating the sound of the gun shooting the poster. ha made cool.

  • He makes doing boring stuff seem fun!!! LOL

  • The man was a true athlete.

  • meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttthhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • They should use his dancing with the mop in the next Swisher mop comercial. Those comercials have a mop that is thrown out for he swisher ones and Baby Come back is played in the background usually.

  • lol i like the part where the blue guy hits the commander with the mop XD

  • These words have never come out of my mouth but...I wish I was that mop!

  • dark20169

Bang on!! The criteria that constitutes a star is a little different now!

  • Actually I like this genre of dance in the era!

  • It is sad that he was a real star back then, and nowadays, snookie is a star.

  • Hahaha I love the part where he "shoots" at the poster :D

  • This is one of my favorite pieces of his! Thanks for posting it!

  • I'd love to see a better quality version but thank you for this awesome clip.

  • @elpresidio If you read the info, you'll find link for better quality

  • My grandpa tells me stories about how he used to watch Gene Kelly do all these awesome dances. I love Michael Jackson, don't get me wrong, but he was good at the Moonwalk and poppin' and his signature moves. Fred Astaire was good at ballroom. Gene Kelly was AMAZING at taping alone and with objects. Each dancer has their own specialty. I don't think you can compare dancers unless they're in the same catagory. Like contemporary, ballroom, tap, etc.

  • Damn, that spin move he does off that jump in SICK! Love your moves, GK!

  • I do the same every Day !

  • Every time I see his dances, it puts a smile on my face. There's just no end to his creativity!!!!

  • pfff..this is disgusting to dance that well...what a genius!!

  • what a guy!

  • Gene Kelly is the original STOMP

  • damm he cud move

  • I love him!

  • Tap is more about rhythm now than ever before, he was a great performer, the tap artists today are far superior in terms of skill, he was simply a master of his craft and the best tap performer probably of all time

  • Woo, that was hot! *faints*

  • Talent AND Entertainment! A blend not seen today!

  • Yeah, don't forget to mention a positive theme in the movie. Tap dancing is a happy, upbeat dance.

    Good news doesn't sell anymore : (

  • he's always a stud, but he was a stud to the max in this movie!!! i loved him a lot in Thousands Cheer :) *swooooon*

  • You think GK and MJ would argue over who was the best? So incredibly stupid. Each were talented geniuses in there own way.

  • both Michael Jackson and Gene Kelly were amazing dancers in their own way.

I don't understand why you guys are arguing about this.

  • Sheesh. Some come around here throwing hate on the great Mr. Kelly. Putting talent aside (as clearly Michael Jackson had as well), Gene was a much classier person. Jackson's life was riddled with controversy, most of which he brought on himself. Gene was not perfect, but he also didn't go around hanging his child off a balcony, grabbing his crotch in his dances, etc.

  • 101% in agreement, my friend!

  • Thanks, friend :)

  • Gene Kelly and MJ were both good dancers in their woun style. Lets' not forget that Gene had taken dance clasess, MJ did not. Gene has more thecnique and hw was a tap dancer. MJ experimented with this, but he created his own style of dance, and by doing the same moves he made people recognize his dance in a second, wich is pretty clever. The both of them are great dancers and is no need to say bad things about them. Gene or MJ would have never said they'rethe greatest dancers in the world.

  • agreed.

  • Check out the wonderful documentary, Gene Kelly - Anatomy Of A Dancer, here on Youtube.

  • @kingjames2484 without Gene there would not have been MJ, and without MJ Gene would have not lived on.

  • @jlhsnake you are most certainly correct Gene was certanily brilliant theres no doubt about that and he came before mj and there is something to be said about that but Mj was a greater dancer by far he was much more versatile and swifter feet and was much smoother also though Mj was often inspired by other dancers he created many dance moves as well but Gene Kelly deserves much repect

  • @kingjames2484 MJ never tapped on roller skates, look up Kelly doing that. Also, when MJ tapped he looked like a damn scarecrow which is why he did a good job in the Wiz because he didn't have any tight precession only loose. Just because MJ was a great dancre that does not make him the best of all styles. The MJ fans have been drinking the Kool Aid ever since he died.

  • @kingjames2484 mj was smoother because he had a smoother dance style. If you watch him when he's trying to be smooth, Gene Kelly is very respectable in that department.

  • Let's not forget that Gene Kelly was a great actor, a director, and one of the most gifted choreographers in the history of American film and theatre: three things that MJ was not.

However, there are times where we may prefer one or the other because they are both great artists who were dedicated to their craft, and that's all that really matters. Cheers!

  • actually mj choregraphed his own dance routines that were better then gene kellys so thats a wasted argument also mj did appear in film and got great reviews look i understand Gene was great but he was no where near as gifted an entertainer as Mj no one is or ever will be but i appreciate the comment great points

  • wow...i like how all of the band members are just kind of sitting there..."oh, hey gene! why are you dancing with a...is that a mop?"

  • LOLOL!! Dag I forgot that!! See my point!?!?! LOLOLOL!!

  • Whats the song in the theme of this?

  • My favorite part is 1:13-1:20. =)

  • I agree!

  • The whole soldier thing - from tapping the buckets to tapping his foot - MAGIC!

    He's amazing! STILL AMAZING

  • Why dance with a ladie, when you got a mop XD

  • Is there any object Gene Kelly could NOT dance with?!! First a newspaper, tap dancing on roller skates, a mop, RAIN!!!!!! LOLOL

This dude is BEYOND amazing!!! He is definetely in dance heaven with Mr. Bojangles, Nicholas Brothers, Buddy Ebsen, Fred Astaire....All of dem' LOLOL!

Mad Respect for. Today's entertainment...excuse my language.....ain't got shit on them!!!! No Sir!!! :)

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 Gene Kelly, the Jackie Chan of dancing.

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616

and let's not forget Jerry the Mouse lol =)

  • @jfuya2000 LOLOL!! SEE!! Too many objects!!! I LOVE this guy!

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 Today's talent has got shit on them. There are as many, if not more talented young actors, actresses, directors, songwriters, producers and dancers today as there were back then. I love watching the older guys like Gene Kelly, but please dont make such ill educated statements about my generation, and we won't make them about theirs. Deal?

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 Too true!

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 that last part sounded like it came from a song...

  • Is he for real?! Is he a man or a dance god? I wach this over and over again and I can't belive my eyes...

  • He's a dance god!

  • Michael Jackson did not have the range that Gene Kelly had (or Astaire for that matter). Not even close. Look up some old Sammy Davis Jr dancing - he could out dance MJ, too.

  • i like the end =)

  • makes me think: Jackie Chan set to music!

  • crazy....its like i see his feet moving but where are that many sounds coming from!! tap is one of my favorites to dance but its bloody hard to perfect.....they dont make dancers like this man anymore...mad props

  • 2:24... This is why is the king of barrel turns!

  • This is the start of the magic of Gene Kelly. He debuted in films as a straight tap dancer in 'For Me and My Gal' a year earlier, then did this film, then was loaned out EXACTLY ONE TIME to immortalize 'Cover Girl' at Columbia. But this is his first real solo in which he is allowed to improvise with the astonishing, superhuman moves like the leaps on and off the bar, that ridiculous leap to his feet @ 2:00, and of course the windmills at the end...goodgooglymoogly!!

  • @mca1218 Cover Girl is my Sh*t!!! Love that movie and Gene in it!

  • That was so cute!!

  • 2:24 Im no tap dancer, but Ive heard thats such a hard move to do! Really impressive!

  • All those spins make me dizzzzy...Gene was awesome. Really amazing.

  • 2:OO no hands !!!!! amazing!!!

  • Actually I saw a break dancer do that the other day at the club I work out at.

  • Man, Gene was amazing! And nice looking too- I'll bet he had all the ladies after him!

  • Trivia:

Astaire and Kelly (5'7"or 8") had different builds but weighed the same, Astaire,140 (5'9") would do anything to "knock off five pounds" before filming. On Singing in the Rain, (Gene age 40) Donald O'Conner said, "I weighed 118, Gene was 145." Kelly stated he "arrived in Hollywood twenty pounds overweight and strong as an ox," after his long cross country Honeymoon car trip following the run of Pal Joey. He quickly knocked off 20 pounds to get back into fighting trim 138-140.

  • Well, some have made it a point to compare Fred and Gene, but as they didn't compare themselves to one another, it doesn't seem relevant to do it ex post facto. Besides, what's the point of "best" and "better than" when you're at this level of talent? They're all part of a small group of unbelievable talent that's all too rare.

BTW, I love Gene, but he was a perfectionist -- and kind of a dick to work with. He worked really hard to make it look this smooth and expected the same of others.

  • Incomparable! No one before or since has ever moved like this.

  • Gene Kelly is one of those immortal dancing legends. His movies are among my favorite of all time. The way he moves is unbelievable. When him, Sinatra, Astaire and all the great classics died, so did true dancing.

    Man, at 2:00 ... jesus!

  • that's so true... i wish i had been born like 45 years earlier...

  • Wow. Amazing. Period. what heppened to entertainment?

  • Gene Kelly最高〜

  • Amaizing .....nice tapping .....he so good

  • I can't believe that this was his only dance in this whole movie

  • Everything he did was so smooth, so effortless, and suave!! Gene Kelly was the man! Amazing and no matter how many times i see these clips or watch these movies i always catch myself, staring dumbfounded, mouth agape! I love him!

  • Kelly, Sinatra, Garland, Astaire, Rooney, Charise that would be the Ideal Cast

  • ah Hes fantastic!

  • It looks like he's not even trying!

  • That's cos he's been practicing for about 2 weeks.

  • My grandfather look like a young Gene Kelly when my grandfather was younger.

  • you know this reminds me of STOMP dance group out of england, really strikes that kinda tone

  • god damn what was that dude's bench press he moved like his body weighed exactly zero

  • Without a doubt. What an amazing dancer and great actor.

  • Great gymnastic dancing. He was one of a kind!

  • he was wonderful

  • Gene Kelly was the best musical actor ever!!!!

  • i agree--he was the dancing master

  • wish the quality of the video was a little better but the dancing is AMAZING. IMHO Gene Kelly was one of the best looking performers of that time!

  • I like the way you think :) I agree, Gene was gorgeous. He was a standout of his day.

  • define. Simply define

  • when they talk about hollywood hunks they missed out. gene kelly was a hunk, the perfect boy next door.

  • The origanl "Stomp"

  • God i love him!!!!

I wish i could Dance like him.

  • Wow. This was the first film that got me hooked on Hollywood classics!

Gene Kelly was an amazing dancer!

  • i just adore his dancing.. he was great!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Haven't seen it in years and really enjoyed it.

  • i wish i could be that mop..it would be an honor to dance with him

  • does anyone know how old he was in this movie?

  • He was 31, I don't think he looked a day over 21.

  • i don't think he looked a day over 21. ever. ever ever ever.

  • He still looked amazing at 67 in Xanadu (bad movie, but Gene was great as always.)

  • when they talk about hollywood hunks they missed out. gene kelly was a hunk, the perfect boy next door.

  • A lifetime of sports and dance gave him a physique you couldn't buy at a gym. Put it together with a beautiful face and that All-American boy charm, and you've got one hot actor.

  • I wish he lived next door to me!

  • one of the best of all time!

    (-=

  • that spinning part was crazy, not one bit dizzy

best dancer i seen, well the best dancer in the world really

  • fabulous

  • was this compressed as a GIF matched with music??

  • ??? What do you mean?

  • I mean it's REALLY pixelated, it looks like a GIF with sound.

  • Be my guest, use the link and download nice .avi quality. During uploading YouTube mantain the convertation

  • gene kelly vs hitler!!

  • Hitler would lose... that ninny!

  • Like Hitler would have a chance...

  • He just makes you get want to get up and dance.

  • i love him!

he's just so amazing ayyy if only those days

    could be relived lol

  • Lol that was awesome

  • Gene Kelly is the best actor and dancer in the whole entire world! This is so amazing! (As if anything he does isnt!!!)

  • He had by far the most perfect body and the best smile.....that smile was even better than Marlon Brando's

  • I LOVE his smile in the Anchors Aweigh scene when he is on the phone talking to Lola. I don't think there is any other man who could seduce a woman quite like that just by talking on the phone. I mean, he strokes it and everything!

  • In 'The Pirate' he also shows off his excellent legs in VERY short pants.......makes me wanna faint.....:0..and in the American in Paris ballet he wears that extremely tight grey thing...hehe..the best part of the movie ;)

It is such a pity there were no nude shots of him lol.....i bet that would get him any role in any movie at the time......

  • Umm, yeah Gene was truly an attractive man, but what I appreciate about this period in time was there was still a sense of modesty. MGM wouldn't have allowed him to show too much skin. I believe it was much classier for the companies to go the route they did when portraying hints of sex, seduction, etc.

  • i wish i was that mop :)

  • Me too!

  • Me three!!

  • Ah, Gene! Please take me in your arms and twirl me around. I'll let you call me sweetheart!

  • He is so fantastic! If a guy wore his pants like that with his shirt tucked in today he's a dork or loser, cuz now its cool to where pants to your knees and walk like penguin to keep them from your ankles. He looks sexy in that, clean and decent. Things are so different, if only we can go back. With any luck we have reached the low point and are rounding a 360 to go back to these times... wishful thinking. Mr.Kelly is superb.

  • Agreed! I know some of the styles clothing wise and what not are just starting to 'come back', but people just don't act the same. So sad. What happened...

  • Only women can change men. Respond to men who dress like Gene and the rest will follow suit. ;)

  • I disagree: only men can change men. BUT, that said, women can certainly INFLUENCE men to change, and if all the slob men got dumped for classy guys, it would make the slobs rethink their ways. BUT, I don't think it'll happen, because for every slovenly man, there's a trashy woman that'll have him. Unfortunate on both genders. I miss those times, too......and I didn't even live in them. Funny how one can miss what one never had. Sad. Very sad.

  • And most men who stil dress like this and look extremely good at it are gay.....(not that i complain hehe).....well except for Mark Ronson....Hes fine and straight...(damn!)

  • i was thinking about that , but the way yo frase it is better PANTS UP PPL!!

  • I love a lot !

  • I want to upload it to my site, so if you like, help yourself (link will be in info)

  • total genius!!!

  • five stars!

  • No, they don't *sigh* I swear that Gene (and Fred!) could turn gravity on or off at will. Pure magic.

  • Boy, they just don't make 'em like this anymore, do they, ladies? :D

  • Good fun - love how he would work other objects into his routines, like the buckets and the glasses. Thanks!

  • lol i wish i were that mop. haha. he is so amazing. i'm so glad he was around in my lifetime.
