Great story, but I still think that sacrificing Pegasus was mistake. If Pegasus was able to destroy basestar with couple of shots from main batteries, why Lee didn't destroy other basestars? You know - that approach was quite long, plenty of time to switch targets and destroy Cylons before they would have time to react, then allow Galactica to repair FTL and jump away and immediately after, jump after her = much more powerful ship than Galactica saved...

The thing that always annoyed me about BSG was that it had so much potential for epic battles (and I mean EPIC battles), but rather than capitalising on that always played them down. I can think of at least two battles (this, and the one in season 2 where they take out that ressurection ship) which would have been unbelieveable if they hadn't skipped over them...

to tell the truth, this is a situation where both ships performed their best, Galactica did a number on the Cylons, but she paid a price, she will never be at 100% again, and it shows after the battle, her hull is badly scarred. The Pegasus went above and beyond the call of duty, and when she was unable to keep up the fight, she was given the most honorable death a ship can be granted, to bring as many of the enemy ships to hell with her, this was the bes episode

I've never understood why the Pegasus would be destroyed as a result of a collision. As we saw, the Galactica rammed itself unto the hull of the Cylon colony and remained intact. Considering the more "advance" Pegasus, shouldn't it have just had damage to the forward section of the ship?

@isbeltv You have to remember though, that the Pegasus was already extremely heavily damaged before it got within ramming distance. The other remaining base ships were pounding on her with everything they had from the moment she was within weapons range.

@Blu2Haze And the Cylon Colony was hammering on Galactica with what seemed to be far more before she rammed the Colony.

My theory on that is that the Colony simply wasn't designed for combat...to defend itself yes, but not to be in an actual fight so it's hull was weaker.

@isbeltv im guessing the the basestar was packing a lot of missiles and possibly nukes which detonated when pegasus rammed the basestar.

Awesome scene. Good music choice, the majestic air of it matches the scene nicely. I honestly hate the vids that take such epic scenes like this and take such a massive crap on it by adding some pathetic emo or techno, or ridiculous head-banger music to it.

I remember the first time I watched this when it aired, I was nearly convinced they were going to dump Galactica for the newer Pegasus. When Lee brought the Pegasus out of nowhere to save the day, I actually stood and cheered. The camera work panning back, then catching a glimpse of Pegasus's name on the side of the hangar pod as it raced into the fray was epic.

By far the best scenes in the entire series, and my favorite episode. Don't get me wrong, there are tons to pick from, the whole series was epic, but Lee coming to save his dad was the most exciting and tense scene ever. Chills go through my body when I see this. Good work man.

The missiles launched were decoy drones. They appeared on Dradis as the Galactica & Pegasus. Then the two Cylon Base Ships moved out to intercept the decoys and abandoned their position in New Caprica's orbit.

That allowed Galactica to jump into New Caprica's atmosphere to launch its Vipers, then jump out into New Caprica's orbit to put itself between the Cylons and the Colonial civilians as they retreated, offering them cover.
