  • Poor David. He was one of my favorites on here when I was a kid.

  • Quit calling it kids tv. Childhood tv is more like it. cause if this all still came on tv to day would i stop watching sesame street today no! I'm in my 30's but who cares I would still watch it. Think of it as watching the muppet show would you give up that? I still watch ss today even though they killed it.

  • Right on - I watch Sesame Street on a daily basis IF ... IF .... they would change it back from the Elmo show to the vintage stuff. Stuff worth watching - thank God Youtube has most of it!

  • Nice one. Yes they do make me think of those boy bands! :D

  • you won't see THIS on American Idol!

  • LMAO! I remember this.... what a kick in the pants!

  • Old school kids tv.

  • My Dad and I used to sing this when I was little! Oh the memories! I think I wanna cry!

  • Wow, that is so awesome. "Lovers of Five" FOREVER!

  • I LOVED this when I saw this as a child. I still sing it to myself. Thank you so much for posting this!

I love the Floaters song too. The 70's were awesome!

  • I thought NKOTB were all white guys. Either way, this band can sing.

  • Who knew that Bob could sing with some funky soul? :-)

  • We owe you big for tracking this down

  • Temptations Parody

  • When true talent, harmony, rhythm an soul combine, this is what you get. GIMME FIVE!

The last note totally kills it!

  • could never forget this one!

  • Willie Dynamite (Gordon) was gettin busy

  • Its almost like "Float On" by the Floaters

  • Does anybody have the clip where's there's 4 or 5 guys on the steps of 123 sort of rapping about school, or whatever the 70's version of rap is? They sang a song about school.. "School...you know you love school...school is where you wanna be and its really really really cool... " and this guy in the background just sings something like "bow bow be doo be shoobeee wap wap" The whole time. Anybody have this one?

  • I remember seeing that clip in the mid-to-late 80s as a teen. Yeah, I was still watching even then. As I recall, they were more of a DOO-WOP, a capella type thing. That was a great clip. I would like to see that one again myself since I haven't seen it in over 20 years.

  • You know, I remember that one so well! I would love to find it, too. I think they did one or two other songs, too.

  • Loved ya Bob, all the Sesame St. players were angels.

  • I got a audio tape recorder for my 6th birthday in the mid 70s. My favorite thing to do was to hold it up to the tv and record sesame street. This was one of my favorite segments. I bet they had so much fun doing that stuff.

  • This song was the bomb. Kids now a says don't know what they are missing

  • definitely. I'm 33 and sadly, I have never heard of The Floaters. but still this was a fun song and the men were so cool and good looking especially Luis...had the biggest crush on him.

  • Me too! He's the reason i learned Spanish! Luis es muy suave! :)

  • right on!! my mom was impressed by some of the spanish words I was saying and when she asked where I got them from, she was stunned when I said it was from Sesame Street.

  • Look at those sideburns on Daivd lol!

  • I used to love this skit. I watched Sesame Street all the time but was excited when the number for the day was 5. I knew then that they were going to air this skit.

  • wow! I can remember this! I'm 40.

  • OMG! Thanks for posting this. I'm 35 now and I remember watching this as a kid. Every now and then I sing it and never thought I'd see it again. Thank God for Youtube!

  • man, they sound so good together. If they had made an album (did I just age myself?) I'd buy it

  • I think I want to throw my panties on the stage. And I'm a guy.

  • I remember seeing this as a kid, I always liked Luis's part because he spoke in Spanish! Since then, I always wanted to speak Spanish. Thanks for posting!

  • Sexy.

  • Being from Detroit, I'm digging the Motown tribute.

How sad is it that all of these old school Sesame Street tunes are better songs than 9/10ths of the music that's out for "adults" nowadays?

  • cutie pies-tori

  • I never thought Bob had SOOUUL!

  • I think i've watched this a biliion times and I never get tired of it. i want to have it play on my mp3 player at all times

  • Hello, I'm Bob. And even though I'm white as snow, I can still sing some smooth ass soul about the number 5.

  • Im proud of you too number five!

  • Gordon is Soul Brother... #5?

  • No Bob is Soul Brother #5.

  • this would have been 1977

  • I haven't seen this this entire millenium!

  • crazy falsetto on bob

Gordon likes to know where it's at, at all times FTW

  • LOL I laughed so hard when I heard that part

  • bobs falsetto is CRAZY...

and gordon is the man FTW

  • Bob McGrath was (and still is) a popular recording artist in Japan! How cool is that?

  • they all look so young!

  • Love this song! As little girls, my sis and I used to do this and laugh...especially the Gimme Gimme part!!! LoL! Luis is sexy now that I see this one again...what a voice. Love them all...they are great. Sesame Street in my time was the best!!!!

  • Dem old boys can certainly sing. Very fine David. Cute Bob! Very sexy Gordon! I like how Luise speaks Spanish like that....very classy!

  • This is fantastic! But I do have one question. I'm very dense at Spanish, can someone translate what Luis said?

  • (Wish we could make this translation a sticky post).

"Hello, I'm Luis. I've liked the number five ever since I was very young. Do you know that three and two make five, and that four and one make five, too? Ah, the number five, how sweet!"

  • ...man this brings back memories!....

  • I loved this as a kid still do. I love David, Louis, Bob and Gordon I was so upset David had to quit Sesame Street for health promlems still am. He didn't die of stomach cancer did he? because someone told me he did. Do you think they will make a group the lovers of 5 but with girls like Gina, Maria, Susan and Celina? or Celina , Ruthie, Maria and Gina? that would be cool. I wonder what Bob, Gordon and Louis are all up too now? I will always have a crush on Louis he is so rad. Love you SS xxxxx.

  • This is my favourite skit. :)

  • This is great stuff. Thanks for posting it! They just don't "make 'em like they used to", if ya know what I mean.

  • This is one of my favorite all time songs. seriously

  • I remember Gordon and Bob, and vaguely remember David from back when I was a kid. They rocked. Check out David's phat sideburns. Was he cool, or what?

  • This is awesome.

  • Gordon rules

  • take THAT Jackson Five LOL

  • Give me 10!! lol

  • I can't stop watching this!! This is sooo cool.

  • Why did they can David? He was one funky brotha!

  • he quit; health problems

  • David actually died

  • Yes he had stomach cancer. They didn't even give him the same kind of send off that Mr Hooper got when he died.

  • If Sesame Workshop had any sense, they'd put out the old school music along with the DVDs. Between this, The Pointer Sisters, Joe Raposo and Grace Slick, it'd be something I'd get.

  • Actually Sony did release a three CD set that had some old stuff on it, but not this. Disappointed to hear this sketch isn't on Volume 2 of the Old School DVD's...

  • I FINALLY FOUND IT! This was my favorit skit on Sesame Street and you never see it anywhere.

  • I FINALLY FOUND IT! I have been looking everywhere for Gimme Five! This was my all time favorite Sesame Street song.

  • Oh Man I remember This.

This must have been after 1974 when Roscoe Orman took over as Gordon. To me he's the definitive Gordon.

  • probably from the 1978-79 season.

  • So there are four of them and they use both hands when illustrating how to 'gimme five'.

My generation never stood a chance.

  • I am back. I just had to see it again. Quizmaster, I think somebody already posted it in an old comment...

  • Yo I have been looking for this clip forEVER!! I couldn't find it anywhere to download. I used to love this when I was a kid. Used to copy the choreography and everything.

  • Could someone translate what Luis said please?

  • Hello, I'm Luis. I've liked the number five ever since I was very young. Do you know that three and two make five, and that four and one make five, too? Ah, the number five, how sweet!

  • Love this. It would be awesome if they put this skit on one of the Old School Sesame Street DVD's they are releasing.

  • We have Volume 2 where I work at. I tcovers 1974 to 1979 and sadly, this isn't on it. :(

  • this is part of 1 of my favorites songs...

  • This is a true classic. --Been looking for it forever. I've asked people about it--just last week, actually. They didn't know what I was talking about. Lou is all that at the end speaking Spanish. This song reminds me of the "Floaters" classic. Rest in Peace David...

  • I have been looking for this forever! Nobody I know remembers it! I am glad to know you guys feel the same way that I do about this classic... Lou is all that in the end with the Spanish!!! This reminds me of the Floaters--"Float On"

  • I love this so much. I'm glad that I found this. I've watched it at least a hundred times, and I just downloaded it 2 days ago. I love the way they hit that last note...PURE HARMONY!! AWESOME!!

  • that last note that they hit is AWESOME...great harmony

  • david sang with the most soul!

  • Been looking for this forever..this is awesome...I especially love the last note they hit....EXCELLENT

  • Wow - are they pink dishwashing gloves that they are wearing?

  • love this song!! gordon and luis look sexy as hell. especially with that "GIMME GIMME GIMME" hip thurst thing!

"see i like to know where its at all times.."LOL

I would like to know where its at too gordon!!

  • Bembry

I am right there with ya on that!..>Gordon was FINE.

  • This is the best thing ever made, is it on the old school dvd's??? if so which one volume 1 or 2?

  • unfourtunately not

  • Too funny! I loved this as a kid!!!

  • tkeitt43

This is real nice...Sesame Street got real creative with this...It was always fun watching CTWorkshop.....On channel 13..................

  • amazing how things are burned into your memory. this song pops into my head to this day. i loved it as a kid. "...but if you love me more give me 5" heehee

  • Gimme 1 2 3 4 5 times to saw up the meat at Safeway.

  • Bob has a falsetto here. I bet it sounds like Smokey Robinson.

  • he pulls it off pretty well, doesn't he?

  • Gordon holds up both hands "Gimme 10"

  • tkeitt43

    I LIKE IT......................

  • The only thing that's wrong is that Bob has ZERO rhythm. In fact, he has negative rhythm. Gordon and Luis were killing it though. :)

  • Perhaps, but Bob has that voice.

  • I only saw this clip once as a kid but had the song memeorized. I watched sesame street for years just to catch this clip, but never saw it againuntil this day. thank Sawing for the post

  • This totally rules! Thank you for posting!!

  • i love this. I've watched it everyday for the past 4 days

  • Thanks again for posting this! This was MY FAVORITE segment of Sesame Street!

This song kicks ass! Bringing back my childhood!

    Lenellbr

  • After over 35 years. It is Great to see this the Greatest segment and My personal favorite of watching Sesame Street as a child. Thank You very much for reposing this. It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood.

This kicks ass! Seeing it again! :-)

    Lenell B.

  • oh my gosh this is the most entertaining sesame street segment ever back when there was the biggest talent even on kid shows! all i can say is WOW! love it!

  • I guess they were like the boy band of the 70's I did not realize how great they could sing. They all have incredible voices. I did not know if David died but I hope he was saved so that he is in heaven and not in hell burning somewhere.

  • David died in 1990. He had stomach cancer.

  • LOL OMG! I remember this song as a kid. Im so glad you posted this. It brings back great memories. Thanks!

  • I remember this. Louis, Bob, David and Gordon The Lovers Of Five sang this so well. Why did David die? What year did he die and how old was he?

  • what a great show. .

  • OMGosh!!!! This was soooo awesome to watch again! GRACIAS!!!

  • Wicked stuff. I loved seeing this clip on Sesame Street. I was thinking "I wonder if somebody on YouTube had that clip of Gimme Five on Sesame Street with Bob, Gordon, Luis and David?" and here it was. It's too bad Sesame Street sucks now, in the 1970's both it and The Electric Company kicked ass! At least I have YouTube and a few channels air Hilarious House Of Frightenstein in Canada. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

  • I think it was Stomach cancer David died of.

  • Northern Calloway January 19,1955-January 9,1990 RIP.

  • Incorrect. Calloway was born on January 22, 1948.

  • AWESOME!!!

    -MINESWEEP

  • watever happened to David wit his wicked fro'???

  • Unfortunately, David died

  • WOW I completely forgot about this!!! Amazing

  • Damn this video makes me feel old. Awesome clip though sure brings back some great memories. Why do we have to grow up so fast.

  • I just looked thorough 11 pages to find my FAVORITE SS song!!!! THANK U!!!

  • Thank you for posting this just the other day my brother and I were agruing about who sang the song!!!!!!Great. Thanks for the memories.

  • all these great memories hidden in our subconcious.who knew such a simple song could conjure up such good inner feelings huh guys.give me five!

  • I'm glad no one ripped this song off and "revamped" it!

  • Gordon is the pimp Mack Daddy. Luis and David are cool, too, but Bob...er, he's quite "the other thing." He should just stick to singing about "people in the neighborhood."

  • One of Roscoe Orman's pre-"Sesame Street" roles was that *of* a pimp, in the movie "Willie Dynamite".

  • YES

  • I cant quit watching...this is the coolest thing i've seen on here since Farting Preacher

  • youve gotta be kidding me!!! YOUTUBE IS THE GREATEST!!!! I was singing this song at work and no one knew what the hell i was singing. I thought it MIGHT be here, and sure enough, it is!!! I remember watching this with my sister and laughing at Bob!!! what a pimp!!

  • who's the justin timberlake of this group?

  • I can't believe I found this clip after sooooo many years. I remember this song when I was 4 and now here it is. If anyone can make this into an MP3 file PLEASE let the masses know.

  • Today is Bob's 74th birthday :O

  • Are you serious???? I didn't know he was that old. (Uh, no offense to people that age)

  • WOW....great memories! Old school SS kicks ass! I am 35 now and I remember this well!

  • I can die happy now.

  • I can't believe MY kids are now watching this show. For those of you that don't have kids, Gordon, Luis, and Bob are STILL ON THE SHOW. Talk about a steady gig.

  • These guys performed at my wedding I think.

What's the deal with the gimme...gimme five move?

    This is classic!

The number 5 is the bomb!

    Thanks for posting.

  • I've finally found it! Thanks for posting!

  • this is so awesome

and i can dance to it

    rofl

  • sweet lord I have been looking for this for YEARS, and i mean YEARS. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • I always wonder who choreographed this skit anyway? lol

  • Thanks for posting this; brings back memories. Has anyone ever noticed that Luis does this little "bounce" during the sways of "gimme 1-2-3-4, but if you love me more..."? (the other three just do a smooth sway left to right)....it was something I noticed when I saw the skit umpteen years ago.

  • Very nicely done!! This is from when Sesame Street was at its coolest.

  • I wish Sesame Street still had clips like this one instead of only Elmo

  • Holy crap! I never thought I'd EVER see ths again! This is still my favorite clip from this show. Period! :)

  • Now for some useless trivia: "Five" is said 47 times, counting when Luis says "cinco". :P

  • You know this sounds so much like the Floaters "Float on."

  • i agree wit you it does sound like the floater's float on and dat pissed me off

  • thats because it is the Floaters doing a spoof of Float on....

  • And those pink gloves with the fives on them? Nice Touch!

  • NICE!

  • WICKED!!

  • Bob is a music teacher, hence explains his cool falsetto that he could do.

    Love this video!

  • i looooove this!!! David was hot!

  • Hell yeah he was! I think he was the first guy I ever had a crush on. ;-)

Thanks for posting this! You made my day, as well as the days of a lot of others.

  • Damn this was my favorite skit!!

  • Oh man thank you for this!!! I love this joint!!! YES!!!

  • Holy crap; Bob's got a sweet voice.

  • no, what's th@ drawing @ the end of the skit?

  • It was a segment about two girls who looked exactly alike in every way, except at the end it's revealed that one is really tall and one is really short.

  • but what's it 4?

  • what's th@ drawing @ the end?

  • Amazing how these gents could make a children's counting song sound romantic -- and didn't they look just all kinds of fine in their sky-blue junior-prom tuxedoes? :-)

  • Yes I do remember watching this as a kid. It sort of stuck in my mind forever. Sad that David passed away in 1990. This will forever live in my memory.

  • Oh yeah -- Northern Calloway RIP.

  • They're giving each other ten ;)

  • Haha. Soulful Sesame Street!

  • My old school's supervisor told me about this. I love the soul sound here.

  • Aww man, I remember watching this as a kid! Brings back memories, thanks for posting.

  • Bob is gettin' D-O-W-N and that last high note is what I remember most about that song "Oooo Hooo Yeahhh"!

  • that would have been funny if Mr. Hooper was in this singing with the other guys, then it would be "Gimme Six!"

  • Mr. Hooper was a wonderful man but he wasn't a good singer. Not even a man with an average voice could have fit in with these 4 guys.

  • You're definitely right, Mr. H. (not the one with the Horrible Hair) was not a great singer. I only heard him sing once and it was a little hard on the ears. :)

  • Yeah, besides it would be kind of creepy if a guy in his 70's were performing in a soul group with these four younger guys who are in their 30's/early 40's.

  • Now THIS is Sesame Street!!!Northern,Emilio,Roscoe And Bob (I am using their real names) really have great voices.I have never heard great harmonies about the number 5!I loved this, still do and yet again I miss David being on the show!
