Sorry, but to me he don't sing, play guitar or sound like a "local" boy. And of course there's no Adirondacks down here. I think he's looking for a cause. Maybe "save the whales" or something would have been a better choice.
Great song! Someone ought to help you put that out on the airwaves so everyone can hear it. The mountains are being raped, true, and it's ugly. My grandparents owned a mountain out in Pound, VA and they came along and bought the ridge and holler out and stripped it clean. Ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's sad. There has be a better way. My grandpa had brown lung, too, from the mines. Keep singing...stay pissed...and I hope this finally stops! God bless you man!!!
I grew up and' learned in East Tennessee Appalachian the' land of Christy. No college on the planet teaches what you learn here.Wise men walk the mountains here.
...but the Adirondaks are in NY. I'm sorry if this has been brought up but it doesn't make any sense to me. I grew up in the St Lawrence river valley near the Adirondaks.
Nowadays see how they rape the land with moutain top removal, and tons less jobs than underground.. and tons more sickness.. now the wives and children, who used to be safe at home, are dieing. And for the coal miners.. even more proverty due to the turn over of jobs to outsiders and equipment, WVians should get a mager discount in utilities.
Yeah, but people think if you speak out against mountaintop removal that you want to cost jobs..the reverse is true. If they would just allow underground there would be many more jobs and it would take a lot longer to mine the coal..no,they listen to Massey and others who tell them that anyone speaking against mountaintop removal, clean coal technology or safety for the miners are evil and want to take jobs. Mine the coal..underground and use clean coal technology..above all..keep em safe.
More coal can be taken from the underground mines, the MTR leaves tons of coal behind that can not be mined later in the future because the ground is unstable where they dumped the mountain tops, just a wastfull greedy way of getting coal, the MTR is what took jobs away.
umm no it cant u can only take so much underground sfor the simple fact if u take the whole seam then whats gonna happen? the mountain is going to collapse surface mining is alot cheaper and more efficient where i work we pull as much coal on one shift on a surface mine now that any underground mine around can pull on both shifts in a month thats a whole lot of coal
research shows less coal with MTR than with underground, google it.
We have been living on top of underground mines for ever if it's done right the mine doesn't collapse, we have homes 60-100 years old that haven't moved.
I would like to see a switch to alternative energy with training for the miners to build and maintain that energy, instead of bringing in outsiders.
no there is a difference in mountain top removal and strip mining. the company i work for uses strip mining because it is way more efficient and u can get the whole seam of coal without the ground being unstable using highwall miners and such equipment this is possible mtr is different, the top of the mountain is removed to get what coal is possible and then the spoil is dumped into and empty valley. at least when we get done miningthe coal we are there for we put the mountain back where it was.
