No, the original song was sung by Nimal Mendis for the sinhala film Kaludiya Dahara, in the 70's. Neela Wickremasinghe sang a revised version of it in the 80's .

I like Bathiya & Santhush of course, but jazzing up everything with scant regard for the lyrics and feelings shows a total detachment with reality. Maybe jazz up the National Anthem and Nearer My God to Three so that while the casket is lowered we can all have a ball. Musical talent is not everything, learn a little more about the people and their feelings.

I have nothing against "new" creations by our younger generation. But they need to understand that recreating or remixing an old meaningful song is not just changing the music arrangements and add some lead and base guitar pieces! I wonder these musicians have ever seen the movie "Kalu Diya Dahara" and understood the movie. I am so sorry to say that BnS have totally changed the meaning of this nice song by converting it to a Pop Rock song!

Neela's version is the 2nd version. the first one was Neviele Fernando. go read the article on papers last weekend guys. the composer Mr. Nimal Mendis has commented. He has parised these guys. aparently they has taken proper rights from him and he has said that tear came to his eyes when he hear this version with Joy. He has said this is the one of the best new age versions of his original composition which he did in english. some of you guys just dont get your facts right before commenting.

I'm not a BnS fan but, i think they have done a good job. As long as they dont add into their albums they can sing old songs in their concerts. that's what most of the famous singers do. Michael Buble sings old songs and he did Mj's Billy Jean. See even Nila wickramasinghe took it from Nimal Mendis n Neville Fernando the original singer of this songs.

The original wasn't even sung by Neela Wickremesinghe. This version was done with the blessings of the author of the original (who also did his own English version-isn't that also over westernizing?)
