  • I did this to a 200hp Merc and it is easier to start but extremely load at the dock.

  • thanks for the response. BIG BROTHER

  • are these motors easy to get parts for?. I havent been into my boat since my son was born 9 years ago. I need to get back into it!. Thanks for the reply.I have a 79-80 V6 150.

  • Dude are you kiddn me....thing sound like a mini funny car/lumpy cam motor...good job....mercfan4ever..

  • damn that thing is pissing half way across the lake haha

  • Those old school mercury's look sexy as FUCK

  • what would cause an old v150 to rev ok with no load, but not develope enough power to get on plane.this would be a 1979 with 3 carbs.

  • @aca319ca Bad compression or not running on all cylinders

  • @aca319ca bad compression or a scored cylinder

do a compression test it will tell you allot about your engine true condition

and if it has a bad piston the cylinder can be fixed and new top end for the hole motor for allot cheaper then you think if you can do the work your self

  • @aca319ca, I was having trouble getting my Checkmate Predictor (16ft) on plane with a 135 Evinrude (1979). I could get it on plane but it was struggling to much to do it. I checked to see if all of my cylinders were firing and #3 was not. I replaced the coil and everything was good. I am not sure of that is your problem or not, but it might be.

  • Man this would just scare the fish away... No Thanx!

  • @webmoss 3 weeks ago me and my cousin were fishing and every time i fired the big motor to move he caught a fish..... well not every time but more that half the time anyways other than that the fish were'nt biting that good, so he wanted me to stay at the helm and keep firing the motor, i didn't do it i said i aint doing that....

  • @joracer1

LOL... I think you're on to something ;)

  • Nice... I would love to do that to mine...

  • You should hear my Black Max in my videos

  • you should hear a v8 johnson with an offshore leg hmmmmmmmmm

  • Also can use a uni bit and drill through the mid and the tuner. 4 1 in holes is what I do and use a bobs cover on it so it looks neat...

  • does this motor come stock with exhaust exiting above the water or did you completely drill through the casing?

  • heyy, next time take it up to 5500 :P

  • You can take the midsection off without pulling the powerhead.

  • Sweet! I have 2 x 150's and they are the best I've ever had.

  • hey is this easy to do? because i love that sound and i want it for mine.

  • @snareLINEVI need to pull the powerhead and take the midsection off to get the exhaust liner (can) out. Then you need an angle grinder to cut the lower fins so you can drill (5 x 1/2" holes) and then some sanding sticks to round the edges. Theres other ways to do it that may be easier but that is how I did it

  • @16sidewinder Would be possible to do it with a 74 1500 tower of power?

  • @16sidewinder is it ok if i remove the whole can ?

  • @wahab010 yea, I haven't had any problems since doing this

  • I have a merc black max 150 and i sold the powerhead and got a 2.4 bridgeport that built and its sittin in the 150s setup and with the old drilled out exhaust its performing and sounding better than most of those nice Cig boats. Fly the tunnel hull anyday

  • @D7mSupra :

    I love them old Bridgeport's !!!

    Nothing like it:-)

  • I dont get it. Whats done differently to the exhaust?

  • He Drilled the mid and took the Can out. Exhaust comes out at the bottom of the mid instead of the prop. Sounds way better

  • New cowel I see, Looks nice man. Sounds good!
